How do I clean my turntable stylus?
W(TF) replied to Livin' in New Orleans's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Go to a high end audio shop and get a small brush for this, and some fluid if you have the money (Disc Doctor is probably the best). I turn the volume up so I have an aural cue. Brush from behind the stylus, towards yourself...VERY GENTLY, once or twice should be enough. If you use the good fluid you can see a major difference if you looked at your stylus under a microscope. Be very careful not to upset the cantilever or the suspension that holds it in place. enjoythemusic.com is a good resource, same for vinyl engine. -
Pics would be nice. I wonder if they had to wear suits.

I just finished reading the latest Lennon biography, and it talked quite a bit about the Klein situation. From the perspective of John's growing discomfort and paranoia about everything, post-Epstein. Pretty interesting section. Klein coming in (against Paul's will) did sort of force the issue of the breakup. I suppose. But seems like there were a hundred other reasons the band was going to dissolve anyway... Definitely a sleazy character from all the accounts.

He's calling his mom. Who else would you call after you just killed someone. (mama...'just killed a man..)

Call me a cynic, but that was "too much" for a funeral service. I didn't watch it, just saw a few highlights on the news. Looked like a lot of hollywood has-beens taking a dream marketing opp a little too far. As someone said, maybe a few months from now would've been more appropriate. I've been trying to avoid this whole circus. But secretly I hope Jeff opens the Lewiston show with a rousing 3-guitar cover of Beat It. lol

The belt could be sitting on the underbelly midsection of the platter, or taped to something, or just loose in a small baggie somewhere. It's probably a thin black rubber thing about 7-8" in diameter when it's not stretched out. I'm guessing it's a repack 'table and they neglected to include that part. Call them and maybe they can just send you one, or arrange for Sony to mail it to you.
-
First try this; lock the tonearm, hold the platter with your thumb and look underneath the turntable-- there may be a 'platter lock', just a little red or yellow plastic tab that needs to be pulled out. (keep it in case you ever have to transport or ship the thing somewhere) If that's not the case, then lift the platter off gently and look for where the belt should attach to the pulley, as you said. If the unit has no sign of life (power led or whatever) then I guess it's a dud. Unlikely though.

Thanks for posting that otm, it made reading this whole thread worthwhile.

So does this mean we get more beatles stuff now?
W(TF) replied to rockinrob's topic in Someone Else's Song
Didn't he also once own the publishing rights to some of Dylan's music? Or am I confused. -
Well, you said 'success', that's a word that strikes a nerve with me. I didn't mean to be snippy, I'm sure we both see it the same way, more or less. The pop charts are controlled by industry slimebags, whether that's a recent phenomena or always been the case could be argued endlessly. Of course I wish the band all the success they want, but I think Tweedy's already been hugely successful at what he set out to do. Whether a lot of people recognize it or not, doesn't much matter to me. They sell a decent amount of discs and other merchandise, and they sell out good sized venues. I guess

What do they deserve, exactly? Worldwide uberfame, and airtime every evening on tabloids like ET? I think they have a pretty good honest gig. Enough 'success' and still loads of credibility. Sorry....JM2C. The masses don't get Wilco...so fuck 'em.
-
Movie-related Wilco-related sighting... Sunshine Cleaning is tragic/funny little indie film reminiscent of Little Miss Sunshine. Especially with precocious little kids in the story, fucked up adults, and Alan Arkin reprising his role of the crotchety streetwise old dad/grandpa. Anyway - pretty good film and good sountrack. It opens up with the Golden Smog tune Cure For This, that Marc Perlman wrote. (and which I don't think Jeff plays on)

Sounds like a crowd that didn't deserve Reservations.
-
That was pretty good quality..thanks for posting. Jeff sure looked surprised when he hit that bum chord.

That's excellent.

Wow...that is a project to put on my to do list. I love the residency artwork. In case anyone missed it last year, here's a link to Roby's complete CD artwork for the Res shows.

That's the thing about double neck guitars, it makes a BIG visual statement..as if rock guitarists don't have enough egovanity to contend with. I suppose they would argue that there's an inherent need to use it for certain songs, but in Nels' case you can see how it would really hinder his mobility. Nels is a guitarist who needs to use his whole body to express what he's trying to do. Just my 2 cents, keep the change!

Topic/Forum read markers working now with RC2?
W(TF) replied to solace's topic in Speakers Speaking In Code
I think this is (also) a setting specific to each of the subforums-- I noticed today that new posts in After The Show aren't appearing in the 'new content' search either. Most forum software has this config., it allows the admin to pick and choose what kind of posts are relevant to include. -
Great pics as always Keith. I like this one the best; And Jeff looks very Neil-like in this one.
