I'm in a West suburb of Chicago. I was the first in line at 6:00 this morning, so I didn't wait long.

Just picked this up: Beto Villares - Beto Villares On first listen, it's pretty good. Some tunes are a little too Esquivel/lite rock for me, but there is enough variety on there that the effect of that cheesiness is minimized. I like it. Not enough to displace my Happy Ashtray pick, but enough for it to most-likely place Top 5.

I just came upon another one. I don't think that I miss the entire album, so much as a couple of really exceptional tracks that were on it. Still, I wanna hear it again:

I was listening to the "De-emphasized Black Triangle" version of Abbey Road this morning. I think that's some sort of remaster job. At any rate it sounds pretty amazing.

Several GA shows, I've been AT the stage. In fact, when I met Louie and Wendy (and found out about this place), it was at an invite-only Steve Earle show and we were all leaning on the center of the front of the stage.

Oh, and, if the Sex Pistols reunion of the 1990's didn't generate the freaking out that you would expect, I don't know how an NMH reunion would.

I believe it's only for public performance, i.e. for customers. Personal play has already been payed for when you buy the CD/mp3/whatever.

I think it depends upon the contract. But, of course, I am not an expert on such things. This is just all what I have come to believe, as a BMI affiliated artist. Also, obviously, these companies are not capable of monitoring every such business; this particular cafe simply happened to get unlucky.

Performance royalties are a viable revenue stream for artists. It's generally not very much, but nonetheless, if you are a struggling artist and you sell a chunk of records, most of that $ goes to the label, but if the songs are played on the radio, or in a business, that $ goes directly to you. Most artists you would think are making serious cash with their music are probably working some sort of day job or freelance gig to help pay their bills, too. (Unless they tour constantly and draw serious crowds every night.) As an artist, it's kinda nice to have something/someone else looking out

It would generate that type of anticipation, but only among the small group of like-minded people, of which we are a part. Now, that small group is bigger than it used to be, but it's still relatively small. And, if that's the case, you know the backlash will only get more intense, as well.

Here's where I brag about how I saw NMH at an in-store at Reckless Records on Broadway just after Aeroplane came out. Also saw them at Lounge Ax, but I got to request "Song Against Sex" at the in store! They played it despite not having a trombone. (Scott was able to fudge it on a flugelhorn -- and very well, too!) But this gives me some hope for a new record, if he will, please, please, please....

I really need to pick this up! Is it readily available at last, or only available for a kabillion dollars as a collectors' item? I only see it at Amazon for $50.

I saw Meat Puppets back in 1987. Amazing show. Then I saw them in 1989. Not as amazing. I would love to see them again, though. One of my favorite bands. And, just hope that they play "Six-Gallon Pie", at least if you're a fan of jaw-dropping guitar stuff.
