  1. Sweet - that's gonna be awesome. The SxSeattle party was announced too; it was pretty fun last year, Fleet Foxes played IIRC. Saturday, March 21st The Palm Door 401 Sabine St Blue Scholars and Common Market – 5:15 Past Lives (Former members of The Blood Brothers and Shoplifting) – 4:30 Barcelona – 3:45 Natalie Portman's Shaved Head – 3:00 New Faces – 2:15 Mt. St. Helen's Vietnam Band – 1:30 Dynah – 12:45 Hey Marseilles – 12:00 Noon http://sarathan.com/ecards/sxseattle/ Blue Scholars/Common Market are kind of fantastic PacNW backpack rap if you like that kind of thing.
  2. I'll second the Horse Feathers recommendation. And there's this: As a fiddle player, I absolutely love Scarlet Rivera's contributions to the Rolling Thunder-era Dylan recordings. Hard Rain is probably my favorite.
  3. ^^^ Dude, me too! This is the second time that's happened to me on this board today. Weird.
  4. Aw, what happened? You're with Reveille, right, or were? I wonder which parties he'll play...
  5. ^^^ Me too. Thoughts? I'm seeing them in Dallas at the end of the month, it's been a while.
  6. He's playing SXSW, per the latest Merge newsletter.
  7. Tracklisting: Extra Cheese Two Blossom Answering Bell Evergreen My Love For You is Real Desire Unreleased bonus track Hey There, Mrs. Lovely I don't know "Extra Cheese"....?
  8. I'm gonna send some money to Rep. Pascrell's reelection fund.
  9. Agree, agree, agree. I hate to see the jammy folks pigeonholed, because in my experience they know a hell of a lot about a lot of different kinds of music, and are open to listening to a really wide variety of things, much more so than the indie purists. So while there aren't a ton of definitive jam bands on that list, I saw a lot of stuff that would appeal to the jam crowd. I'd include the country, bluegrass and world music acts on that list.
  10. I generally don't care for the United Center either, but sometimes you can luck out on tickets released after the initial onsale. You might even try waiting until the day of the show - I did that the last time Bruce played the United Center, and ended up with 2nd row behind the stage. It was a very unique vantage point, and Bruce ran right past me on the catwalk at one point. I coulda high-fived him
  11. Wow - very cool! I already have my tickets, but this is a great option. If any of you are hesitating about the balcony seats, don't - great sightlines, and the sound is just perfect up there too. Thanks for the heads up, Sue!
  12. I'd agree, wilceaux. Seems like there's a little something for everyone on that lineup, but it's still plenty jammy, IMO - TWO nights of Phish, Grisman, Gov't Mule, moe.? And let's not forget there are still nearly 50 more acts to be announced. I've heard the same thing, greg. My ACL/Lolla/Roo vet friends have all said the feel of Roo is a lot different from those other fests - less crowded, easier to move through the crowds, less "camping" at one stage for the headliner.
  13. Thanks for posting! I'll be interested to hear that U2 cover; I love Elbow, and that's about the only U2 song I can stomach
  14. apples :: apples. Two acts working for about the same amount of time. Each have recently lucked into something fortuitous for their careers. Are both cashing in? I'd say yes. Was that Max Fischer's dad from Rushmore playing one of Bret's gang members last night? LOVE!
  15. Murray's reminiscent of Ricky Gervais in the original Office, IMO.
  16. Point taken. I don't see any evidence of a sophomore slump in the new Conchords episodes, so only time can tell whether they'll have any longevity, I guess. Matt Ward: Not Popular, and Holding! Seriously, I betcha $5 he does see a bump in sales from the Zooey correlation...IMO he's one of those artists that people discover via his associations with other artists (Jim James, Conor Oberst, hell, even Jack Johnson) and I'd argue that Zooey's his highest-profile collaborator yet. People love starlets.
  17. Argh. Since I derailed this train, I'll try to get it back on track. Seems to me that FotC are an act who have steadily gained in popularity since their inception in 1998, rather than a flash-in-the-pan phenomenon that desperately need to "strike while the iron's hot". The show has obviously improved their visibility, but their US festival appearances and tours have had a similarly catalyzing effect on their career.
  18. Oh man, that's hilarious. Cool video! Reminds me a bit of the Touch Me Pt. 2 video...at least the firefly bits.
  19. Who was a virtual unknown until his association with a certain Ms. Deschanel? Just sayin', is all.
  20. One could say the same about Matt Ward... They're playing the oddest venue here - the Arie Crown. I probably won't go. But I do love the show, and thought they were hilarious at Sasquatch last year. I'd never have guessed two dudes with acoustic guitars could have captivated a huge festival audience like that.
  21. Bought it - it's available at Starbucks today. There's a She & Him song on there too - "I Put A Spell On You".
  22. Wilco's bio was updated on the Bonnaroo site. It might not mean anything, but it might...
  23. The Starbucks Sweetheart 2009 compilation...don't judge So far the highlights are A.C. Newman doing "Take On Me" by A-Ha and Jessica Lea Mayfield covering Buddy Holly's "Words of Love".
  24. That's a shame. I like to think these are isolated incidents, but yesterday I was listening to my first Tweedy solo show (10.21.99) and he had to admonish some of the talkers...then I went to see Vic Chesnutt last night, and there was some winner in the crowd trying to banter back and forth with him, and Vic was clearly not having that. Lately it feels like crowd rudeness is just out of control; there's no respect for the performer. I've half a mind to start up a posse of concert etiquette vigilantes.
