  1. ...not to mention how funny it was when he kind of sheepishly buttoned it up again Gorgeous and Alone, that was also my experience when I saw the Breeders earlier this year. Kim and Kelley bickered through the entire set; "amateurish" is indeed the best word to describe it.
  2. Thanks for posting! Y'all are thorough... I see my old Guitar 1 Rep teacher in the 1/12 pics!
  3. WOW. That's so cool! I did consider bidding on a song, but I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted to hear...Venus Stop the Train? One True Vine? Bob Dylan's 49th Beard? Hey, do spots ever open up in these Living Room Show groups? My friend and I would definitely be interested if, say, someone had to drop out at the last minute...
  4. My parents were converted by the most recent Austin City Limits performance. They called me up all excited - "When can we go see that My Overcoat band you like??" I thought the Yo La Tengo performances on that I'm Not There concert were pretty good. An ohhhh, man, I LOVE how The Roots completely reinvent Masters of War. It's such an awesome thing to witness.
  5. I'd like to see that show at Corbett vs. Dempsey. Wonder how much it is?
  6. I've never been to one either, but yeah - last night they were saying the Living Room shows were limited to 30 people, and each person gets to pick a song for Jeff to perform. I wonder if someone who's actually attended one would like to weigh in? I'm curious! It's incredibly generous of Sue and Jeff. Such a cool experience to share with your favorite musician!
  7. I'm loving all the love for Parc Avenue. It's such a great record.
  8. I knoooow. Also, what am I gonna wear?
  9. It's a Daniel Johnston song, no? That was a lovely moment. Congrats to the couple! Last night was my first Letters to Santa benefit and I can't think why I would have ever skipped it in the past. We almost didn't get in, but they squeezed us in at the last minute. Imagine being ushered into a dark theater, climbing a few stairs, and suddenly finding yourself face to face with Jeff Tweedy! It was almost surreal. What a great event and a great cause. Many thanks to those with deep pockets for being so generous last night! Each of the 4 living room shows went for 23k...yowza!
  10. Yup. This one falls into the "fancy packaging...oooh, want" category.
  11. I know what you mean...I'm just a sucker for anything limited/special edition/fancy packaged. Can't be helped!
  12. I just ordered the Super Deluxe. I have a problem.
  13. I agree, Cortez - the album art looks like those snippets sound, if that makes any sense...
  14. Furr is #13 on Rolling Stone's best of 2008 list. Anyone know if they made any other year end lists?
  15. I'm excited for the show at the Civic Opera House here. It's a lovely place to catch a show; seeing Bj
  16. I love Love is Hell. Prefer Part 1 to Part 2. Love is Hell sounds like a depressed guy making a depressed record alone in a shabby hotel room with a loaded gun. Cardinology sounds like a depressed guy making a depressed record in a shiny studio with a half-caff skim hazelnut latte.
  17. Oh, that's pretty... OMG, you get a Mamasan cassette with the super deluxe edition? That's kind of funny...
  18. Here's my top 13. I think it was a very good year for music. 1. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes 2. Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks - Real Emotional Trash 3. Blitzen Trapper - Furr 4. Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago 5. Plants and Animals - Parc Avenue 6. My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges 7. Erykah Badu - New Amerykah: Part One (4th World War) 8. Destroyer - Trouble In Dreams 9. TV on the Radio - Dear Science 10. The Dodos - Visiter 11. William Fitzsimmons - The Sparrow & The Crow 12. Al Green - Lay It Down 13. The Acorn - Glory Hope Mountain Runners up: R.E.M. - Accelerate Vic Chesnutt/Elf Pow
  19. If I lived nearby, and it was reasonably priced, I'd probably go and check out: Death Cab For Cutie
  20. I don't think it's an insincere record in any way, or particularly derivative. It does hold up pretty well live. But to me, Cardinology just sounds like a depressed guy making a depressed record. There are some lovely melodies, but overall I think it lacks a vital spark. I blame Neal Casal.
