  1. Oh Drew, that sucks! I've been stood up by Shane twice; the first time I don't think there was any explanation, and the band went on without him (they were opening for Bob Dylan). The next time, he was doing a solo show in Belfast, and there was no question what had happened that night: a bunch of people at the show (a big festival) were reporting that they'd seen him drunk that afternoon in a bar on the Falls Road.
  2. Is it wrong for me to admit that I would have already known that?
  3. And not much else (well, some of his live shows, too), for several weeks now. I'm a woman possessed... by Howard Fishman!
  4. Hell yes. I saw Willie Nelson at the Bridge School Benefit a few years ago, and holy mother of ryan adams, it was absolutely amazing. A cousin of mine in Ireland is a serious traditional musician (fiddler). I asked his wife once if they listened to just trad. music around the house, and she said "Yeah, pretty much. Well, that, and Johnny Cash... and AC/DC." The soundtrack to my teenage years...
  5. OK, I was giggling about the Canine American, and then I got to part about the Wig Man, and the hipsters, and the whole nother world, and oh god that's good stuff...
  6. We did, and it was a great show! In addition to Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, and Maria Bamford, we got Howard Kremer, Brent Weinbach, and Doug Benson! Plus, we went to the early (6:00pm) show, which means we were home by 9. Maybe the line of the night:
  7. I missed most of Noise Pop this year, so I'm definitely going to check some of these out.
  8. Oh, yay for Brian and yay for all of you who are going to get to see him (and of course, that other guy). Not so much yay for me. But I'll live vicariously through reports on the evening, I'm sure. Also, thinking about this has made me queue up the VC tributes, too, just to hear Forget the Flowers again.
  9. I really like it, and I don't think enough people even know of its existence.
  10. The auction is run by Second City in Chicago, and it benefits Letters to Santa, which helps out families in need around the holidays. The way it works is, they auction off (among other items) a private show for you and 29 of your closest friends . For the past few years, there have been multiple groups with serious bids, so Jeff has done more than one show. Groups pretty much have to be formed in advance, because you have to have your $$ with you on the night. So it does require some advance planning, and having someone who can attend the auction in person in Chicago. The first year's
  11. When I win, I'm flying out to New York to visit Drew and Flick!
  12. My great-grandfather, on my father's mother's side, was named Ben. He came here from Ireland with his cousin, and they were going to be sheep farmers in Idaho, but it was too cold. So his cousin moved to Oregon, and great-grandpa Ben came here to San Francisco. There are a bunch of distant cousins in Oregon that I've never met. Also, a kid named Ben that my nieces have known since preschool has (and has had since at least preschool) a gender-identity thing, and now he's in the fifth grade and he wears his hair long and is pretty much just one of the girls. He's a very cool kid, and his f
  13. OK then! Oddly enough, my real real name is Bombalurina.
  14. I just wanted to say that in the past few weeks, I've spent a lot of quality time with a lot of quality VCers. When I first joined this place nearly 4 years ago, it never occurred to me that any of you people would ever even know my real name (not to mention my "real" real name ). Now I've seen a bunch of you in your natural habitats, and even had a few of you in my own home, and I wouldn't trade you all for anything. So and and and and all that jazz.
  15. Missing Kate and Graham is a much worse deal than missing me, they're one of VC's coolest couples. Yay more VC events in the future!
  16. I am madly in love with this picture. I'm also madly in love with Johnny and Jenny Lackey, and kind of with this poster, too. I have a Johnny Lackey painting in my living room, and I can spend hours looking at it (and I'm not even stoned!). I'm in love with approximately three people in this picture, but you'll have to figure out for yourselves which ones. Brianne and Kyle mentioned on the way home from Edie's that you were there. I can't believe I didn't meet you (again)! Totally my bad. I haven't had a chance to look at all the pictures yet, but from what I'v
  17. He really wasn't lost! Meeting big parm was absolutely the highlight of the weekend for me.
  18. I have never seen my brother laugh so hard as he still laughs at any mention of "ecky thump".
