  2. i put in for the show but looks like they are tight w/ press this tour...no press tickets available, and apparently no photo passes have been issued yet. and tickets are $60/$75 before fees. yowza. i guess they don't need the publicity!
  3. so how was good ol' Nick? gonna see Har Mar Superstar tonight.
  4. i saw Bradford last year as Atlas Sound, and he did "Tonight's The Night" four times during his set. it was actually pretty cool.
  5. SF has a TON of records out, and i have only heard a handful..some really fine stuff in there, though: http://www.discogs.com/label/Sublime+Frequencies i did an interview w/ Alan a couple of years ago and asked him a bit about the label: http://www.bigtakeover.com/interviews/alan-bishop
  6. i saw them in '90 or so, opening for Sonic Youth on the Goo tour. i was heavily altered at the time and thought they were 8' tall w/ hair down to their asses. Steve's still got some great hair
  7. ah, thanks. i was looking on the solid sound website.
  8. or even better... check out Sublime Frequencies, the label run by Alan Bishop (Alvarius b, Sun City Girls) and Hisham Mayet...they have discovered and released a very wide array of music from all over the place, and put out the first Bombino record.

  12. i didn't even realize it was him at first. he was definitely sartorially challenged, as compared to the rest of the band.
  13. ones i will likely get: Kinski: Cosy Moments [Kill Rock Stars] Mudhoney: Vanishing Point [sub Pop] Kurt Vile: Wakin on a Pretty Daze [Matador] (the stream sounds good right now) White Fence: Cyclops Reap [Castle Face] Barn Owl: V [Thrill Jockey] (just ordered, actually) Lilacs & Champagne: Danish and Blue [Mexican Summer] Guided By Voices: English Little League [Fire] The Melvins: Everybody Loves Sausages [ipecac] Come: Eleven : Eleven [Matador] [reissue] Deerhunter: Monomania [4AD] Mikal Cronin: MCII [Merge] Glenn Jones: My Garden State [Thrill Jockey] Black Sabbath: 13 [Vertigo] (shoul
  14. Vest wearin', banjo playin', dreadlocked awfulness right there. A personal hell.
  15. Explosions in the Sky is the poor mans Mogwai.
  16. The Soundtrack Of Our Lives is the poor man's Beatles/Stones/Who/Kinks
  17. style-wise. stylistically. doom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO7VP34n2Ps thrash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxCTVssoddo see the difference?
  18. no doubt that Sabbath deserves all the accolades they get for birthing metal, but stylistically thrash and doom are distant cousins at best. same w/ the Kinks, if distortion is the sole connecting line between them and Sabbath...if you go back to stem cells, then everything is related. Pig Destroyer is the poor man's Liszt.
  19. in the chick dept, some of my favorites: PJ Harvey Barbara Manning Neko Case Chrissie Hynde Mary Rose Crook Holly Golightly and collectively: Electrelane Look Blue Go Purple Warpaint Vivian Girls
  20. Queens on Matador is a move i didn't see coming.
  21. i think you missed the mark by quite a bit on both of these. i think you nailed the bullseye on both of these.
  22. i saw Mastodon play "Emerald" once, which was brilliant.
