  1. i shot a bit less this year as compared to previous years, but still covered a lot of ground... 55 shows and four festivals, in five different countries. plus, i went to a few shows without my camera (John Cale, Liz Phair, Pearl Jam, and I am likely forgetting one or two others). i think most people know i do this because i love to and not because i'm trying to reach any finite goals, but i did tick off a couple of them this year. First, i got to go out on tour with a band, if only for three shows. but those shows were amazing and it was really an incredible experience. i'm grateful to Al, Jas
  2. hmmm... i think there were less albums that i really dug this year as compared to others, but there was still some really good stuff released. my musical discovery of the year was from Estonia of all places; Erki Parnoja released a live record this year, but last year's Efterglow is so good and probably my favorite record that was new to me this year. here are some songs that i dug... maybe you did/will too? https://open.spotify.com/user/tinnitus_photo/playlist/1a3RozOVpoCOtQBwcI38or?si=_MBbl5zxSDyZqjab9iUOSw my top 10 records would be (inpo) Dommengang - Love Jail Malkmus/Jicks - Sparkle
  3. tbh i have zero interest in giant festivals like coachella, so the fact that really no bands i like are gonna play shitshows like that is more than fine with me.
  4. here is one guess i have for SSF19: Cate Le Bon
  5. this is always a tough list to put together.... i'll (selfishly, i might add) post a thread w/ my fave photos of the year and there will be overlap for sure.
  6. i was bummed to learn years later that when i first saw Nick Cave, in 2002, the opening act was Neko Case. i got there after she was finished, having a pint or two with a friend of mine at some crappy irish bar.
  7. my photography has acted sort of like a show diary over the last 12 years, but i wished i'd kept a log during the 90s... saw a ton of great shows, esp from the '90-'95 stretch.
  8. i wonder what Wilco song would have landed on that compilation. also, canuckistans, it's the LYRES
  9. sometimes setlist.fm entries, esp old ones, are not too accurate.
  10. a very good friend of mine used to manage them.
  11. awesome. great to hear that. thanks for the post.
  12. last Sunday i went to the Coolidge Corner event where they screened the original, and Claudio Simonettt's Goblin provided the live score. pretty cool! Goblin played a bunch of songs afterwards too.
  13. this is true. it's also true that PR was handled in-house by TMM.
  14. for me, the key to the secret kingdom was fanzines... they were absolutely critical to finding out the good stuff that you never heard on the radio or saw at the record store (unfortunately, my college radio station was a commercial station... :puke ) so in the late 80s and early 90s, i found out about so many good bands via fanzines like Big Takeover, Forced Exposure, Flipside, Your Flesh, and smaller ones like Cut, Butt Rag, de/create, chemical imbalance, etc. there was one other key discovery for me... buying a cd copy of the In Love With These Times compilation from Flying Nun... that
  15. well it's nearing ski season... so it might make an appearance again soon.
  16. i was tempted to yell that out too... Amelia didn't seem to know that either. good waving to you from across the aisle last night, wrp!
  17. i thought she was pretty decent... i kept imagining myself in her place and yeah, it's not an easy job to keep a fluid conversation going. i thought she had a few missed opportunities for followup on topics, to go into more depth, esp relating to YHF, O'Rourke's contributions, and the documentary. i watched the Colbert episode when i got home and Jeff seemed a lot more nervous there. i really liked the photo slideshow they had looping before it started. some pretty cool photos.
  18. a friend of mine summed it up best: pure suicide fuel

  20. congrats, TATS! i hit 52 or so last week, with 4 festivals too. #slowyear
  21. for the first time in 10 years, Witchcraft is playing in the US. you can't call it a tour, as it's only two cities (Boston and NYC). see you next week!
