what is your favorite Who song to sing? -
he was an inspired choice at Psycho LV a couple of years ago. really fun.

that lighting was pretty rough, esp the entire first song. but that was like a fucking broadway musical compared to guided by voices last night. seriously, low blue and red side and back lighting that didn't change ALL FUCKING NIGHT. still a fun show, though.

judging from some random interactions via facebook, it's apparent to me that trump's efforts to brand news that he doesn't agree with as fake news has worked. people refuse to give credence to journalism if they don't agree with it, saying that it's all made up. opinions are the only thing that matters, not facts. this is fucking depressing.

yeah it's a bit of a drag. i did an interview w/ Howe Gelb some years back and we talked about Joey a bit at the end... i ended up not putting it in the published piece but should probably post the full version sometime... he basically said that Joey felt like he needed a go at the brass ring and took Howe's drummer along for the ride. i don't think Howe was bitter about it (though i'm sure he felt bitter at the time), just that they had different expectations of their place in the music industry. -

gotta say that this Ethers record is quite good. certainly not groundbreaking but will appeal to fans of bands like The Clean, Parquet Courts, etc. https://open.spotify.com/album/46TJDtMocf9tN9l2AGZl2C?si=pxTylNBWRya5smCh0_frOw -

yep. that's their best record. the first time i saw Calexico was pretty early on, and they invited Pinetop 7 to get on stage for the last song, a brilliant runthrough of this. i've never seen them play it again. sad face. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-dBJ7lYv44 -
he also had a bit of an additional Neil Young streak in that he would revisit/re-record songs occasionally, or put them out via live recordings a la Time Fades Away (ie, check Trials and Errors). his career and how it ended is so heartbreaking.
