  1. I have serious concerns about either Biden or Sanders surviving the full four years in office. They both better choose their running mates very thoughtfully and carefully. My 28 year old colleague wants to know why everyone running for president (including the current president) is old enough to be her grandfather. I wonder the same thing. Why are the old guys the only ones left standing? I’ve been a huge Bernie fan for many years, since long before he ever considered running for president, but even I think he is too old. Joe Biden does not look well to me.
  2. I would also add that early Oasis songs were so absolutely life-affirming. Who can’t relate to the idea behind Live Forever? I was already in my mid-30’s when that came out, and it still struck a chord with me. It still does, to this day. A combination of the lyrics and the soaring music, perhaps, but when I listen to that song (listening now), I totally relate. Even now. THAT is what you need for a timeless song - the lyrics and the music to support them. Noel was the master of that, 25 years ago, and Liam was the perfect voice for it. Oasis was the first band I ever traveled overseas
  3. Oasis were great because they had some great songs. Maybe not original, but they were great. And they had a singer, Liam, who sounded like no one else and had a heck of a lot of charisma. To this day, I remember the first time I heard Wonderwall. It came on the radio one morning when the clock radio went off and I literally sat up in bed thinking “What IS this?”. I hadn’t heard such a wonderful sound in years. Their first two albums and the associated b-sides were fantastic. I saw them many times over that first couple of years. One of my favorite shows of all time was the first time I
  4. I am shocked by this news. I gasped out loud when I heard, Emergency Third Rail Power Trip is one of my favorite albums of all time. 61 is way too young to die.
  5. Any Democrat who stays home for the next election is an idiot.
  6. I don’t hate Buttigieg. I do in fact like him. But Trump is going to chew him up and spit him out if he is our candidate. He will lose.
  7. I watched the live webcast from Port Chester the other night and it was great! I saw them live in Brooklyn back in June and it was also great. But I have to say that a live webcast into my home, where I have the audio and video setup to really appreciate it, is an increasingly attractive alternative to time-consuming and costly travel, especially on a work night.
  8. Oh how awful! Such a young man!
  9. Fantastic photos, thanks so much for posting! Wish I could have been there - 3 of my favorite bands!
  10. A CD that came with a magazine had Can’t Stand It on it. I was hooked! I can’t remember now if the magazine was CMJ or Uncut. I got into a lot of great music by listening to those CDs years ago.
  11. Calexico is one of my favorite bands. Do you remember how many people were in the band that played? I’m curious if it was their full touring band (7 people), or some subset. It could have been as few as three and they could have legitimately called themselves Calexico. I wish I could have been there, but unfortunately I think this sort of trip is permanently outside my ability to pay for it.
  12. Did your company let you go on the last day of the year?? That is awful! I am an older person who was job hunting a few years ago, and found the online submission system is not very productive (300 submissions, 3 interviews, 0 offers). I ultimately got a job through personal networking. Best of luck to you.
  13. There’s nothing to discuss and I just don’t care any more. This should have happened a long time ago. I am sick and tired of Donald Trump and his exploits, and his constant presence on the news for something outrageous he did or said. I no longer care, and can’t listen to it any more. I will vote for someone else. I could even see myself voting for a moderate Republican instead of the selected Democrat, just to get rid of the guy. Tell me when it’s over.
  14. Spotify tells me I have listened to Bruce Springsteen’s Western Stars album more than anything else in 2019. I would also rate Jeff Tweedy’s Warmer, Wilco’s Ode to Joy and Calexico and Iron&Wine’s Years to Burn very highly. edit: And Purple Mountains! I did not recall that came out this year. For some reason (possibly David’s untimely death), that album feels like it’s from a long time in the past. I have not been able to listen to it since he died.
  15. Thank, looks like a great show.
  16. I love Ben Lee! If it hadn’t been on a Sunday night, I would have bought a ticket also. Please report back.
  17. He is definitely an amazing musician. He made sounds come out of a trumpet that I’ve never heard before, and he was even better on the trombone (although no trombone sounds I had never heard before. ) His band was a little too ”hard funk” for me at times though. But it was a fun time, and the crowd just loved him!
  18. Wow, no talkers near me up in the 2nd mezzanine, so maybe I lucked out. I thought the show was great. I thought Handshake Drugs, Impossible Germany, and Reservations were the standouts in a show filled with standouts. But, the pounding of the drums during the new songs made something that is a mild annoyance on the album into a flat out WTF for me. I do not understand that percussion choice. What was the mop story all about? Being so far up, I had no idea what Jeff was talking about. LOL
  19. My initial impression of Ode to Joy is overwhelmingly positive. Schmilco was the first Wilco album I did not like enough to buy, and I feared I might be done with them. But Ode to Joy is my kind of Wilco album. Whatever was missing is back. I very much look forward to exploring all the nooks and crannies of the sounds on this album. Before Us jumped out at me immediately as a very special song.
  20. Selling your tickets because of one new song you don’t like is ridiculous. Potentially hearing one new song you don’t like makes all the dozens of others they might play of no value? Stupid. I haven’t seen Wilco since the Summerteeth tour. When I see them in two weeks, I couldn’t care less how many new songs I dislike.
  21. Sad news. Two music icons of my high school years dead within days of each other. We had a jukebox in my high school cafeteria, and someone was always playing the Cars or Eddie Money.
