  1. Calexico is one of my favorite bands. Do you remember how many people were in the band that played? I’m curious if it was their full touring band (7 people), or some subset. It could have been as few as three and they could have legitimately called themselves Calexico. I wish I could have been there, but unfortunately I think this sort of trip is permanently outside my ability to pay for it.
  2. Did your company let you go on the last day of the year?? That is awful! I am an older person who was job hunting a few years ago, and found the online submission system is not very productive (300 submissions, 3 interviews, 0 offers). I ultimately got a job through personal networking. Best of luck to you.
  3. There’s nothing to discuss and I just don’t care any more. This should have happened a long time ago. I am sick and tired of Donald Trump and his exploits, and his constant presence on the news for something outrageous he did or said. I no longer care, and can’t listen to it any more. I will vote for someone else. I could even see myself voting for a moderate Republican instead of the selected Democrat, just to get rid of the guy. Tell me when it’s over.
  4. Spotify tells me I have listened to Bruce Springsteen’s Western Stars album more than anything else in 2019. I would also rate Jeff Tweedy’s Warmer, Wilco’s Ode to Joy and Calexico and Iron&Wine’s Years to Burn very highly. edit: And Purple Mountains! I did not recall that came out this year. For some reason (possibly David’s untimely death), that album feels like it’s from a long time in the past. I have not been able to listen to it since he died.
  5. Thank, looks like a great show.
  6. I love Ben Lee! If it hadn’t been on a Sunday night, I would have bought a ticket also. Please report back.
  7. He is definitely an amazing musician. He made sounds come out of a trumpet that I’ve never heard before, and he was even better on the trombone (although no trombone sounds I had never heard before. ) His band was a little too ”hard funk” for me at times though. But it was a fun time, and the crowd just loved him!
  8. Wow, no talkers near me up in the 2nd mezzanine, so maybe I lucked out. I thought the show was great. I thought Handshake Drugs, Impossible Germany, and Reservations were the standouts in a show filled with standouts. But, the pounding of the drums during the new songs made something that is a mild annoyance on the album into a flat out WTF for me. I do not understand that percussion choice. What was the mop story all about? Being so far up, I had no idea what Jeff was talking about. LOL
  9. My initial impression of Ode to Joy is overwhelmingly positive. Schmilco was the first Wilco album I did not like enough to buy, and I feared I might be done with them. But Ode to Joy is my kind of Wilco album. Whatever was missing is back. I very much look forward to exploring all the nooks and crannies of the sounds on this album. Before Us jumped out at me immediately as a very special song.
  10. Selling your tickets because of one new song you don’t like is ridiculous. Potentially hearing one new song you don’t like makes all the dozens of others they might play of no value? Stupid. I haven’t seen Wilco since the Summerteeth tour. When I see them in two weeks, I couldn’t care less how many new songs I dislike.
  11. Sad news. Two music icons of my high school years dead within days of each other. We had a jukebox in my high school cafeteria, and someone was always playing the Cars or Eddie Money.
  12. I totally agree. I have loved baseball all my life, but the game in its current state sadly just does not hold my interest.
  13. To be honest, I, too, gave up on Tame Impala when Currents came out. It was so different, and totally not what I expected. I don’t think I even made it all the way through one complete play. Then Patience came out and knocked me upside the head. So I went back and listened to Currents with fresh ears, and now I absolutely love it. I have come to realize that Kevin Parker is one of those rare individuals who is so talented that he can make a lot of different styles work.
  14. Yes, first time! I will PM you exact location.
  15. Listening to the lyrics on Purple Mountains this morning, I mean REALLY listening... This album is a combination of a cry for help/suicide note set to upbeat music.
  16. I saw Martin Courtney about a week ago.. He was very, very good, but a little out of sorts without his band. He said he had to focus more and make sure he strummed the guitar well.
