  1. I love the mixing on Girlfriend - crystal clear. Altered Beast, I struggle with. I think the number of guitars (sounds like a bunch) muddies it to my ear. Could just be that I am not able to discern the individual guitars well, though.
  2. A concert of about 35 songs. Pretty cool idea, though - he picks one song from each album to play each night. That would be a 2.5 hour show or so, maybe longer. Downside: he plays a song from Greendale, Fork in the Road, and Living With War. Upside: figuring out/predicting what he will play off of Everybody Knows this is Nowhere, Harvest, Ragged Glory, etc.
  3. That MSG show by the Beastie Boys was on October 9, 2004. Wilco played at Massey Hall in Toronto that night. They closed that show with Be Not So Fearful. Love a show that ends with Be Not So Fearful. And I am thinking that Wilco's Jeff Tweedy did not wield a camcorder at MSG that night.
  4. ^^^^ That's the one. Great, great shot. Now to come up with a title for the accompanying National Geographic article. I'm thinking it should have the words "Pig Destroyer" in it. Or better yet - "Deathfest".
  5. That one really struck me, too. Quite possibly because I don't see that ever in my corner of surburbia. It was like seeing a photo of a slice of humanity in a National Geographic.
  6. I love that old live version. Sounded like Jeff might die right then and there.
  7. Texas has 17 universities bigger than the largest university in my current state of Maine. That is a crapload of college students. And at least one of them on the list above - UT Austin - is considered a good university (that should get some people fired up!). On another note, the mums thing is beyond odd. To an outsider, it looks like a waste of resources.
  8. I am 3 for 3 on having a good principals, and my current principal is the best of the lot. I did work for a headmaster at a private school who was not great, as I look back on it. But at the time, it wasn't horrible by any stretch. Interesting how important it can be to work with/for people who are good people, with solid core values (and a good sense of humor helps, too).
  9. We put Pancake down on the day before Thanksgiving. Amazing how attached we can be to our pets. No more early morning yeowling.....except his brother, Waffle, started yeowling this morning, for no apparent reason. He may be missing his brother.
  10. Pleasant Lake in Casco, Maine. We have a summer house on the lake, co-owned by my parents and 5 (middle-aged) kids. I am the youngest of the group, and I live closest to Casco (by some 10 hours over the next nearest sibling). So I get to take care of the house. And I get to spend the most time there. It's heaven.
  11. Hot and tasty lobster, drenched in butter. For that, I am thankful. And a cold beer. Most any beer will do.
  12. I remember that! My thought then was, "That is some crazy-drunk woman!"
  13. One of our three cats, Pancake. He is 18, and coming to the end of his life. He has approached his last years (particularly the last few months) with a grace and dignity that is inspiring. Except maybe for the early morning yeowling in the bathroom to have someone come in to run the faucet so he can get a drink.
  14. That would be cool. But I don't think we'll have a new Wilco album by summer. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it comes out in 2014. I am not expecting a summer tour, either, though I'd love to be wrong. Love the description above of Neil Finn's sound on this album. Sounds interesting.
  15. One of my students, Tommy. He is 18, has a spontaneous spoken vocabulary of 20-30 words, and repeats alot of what you say to him. And he is the happiest person I know. Just smiles all day. Oh, and he mixes in a lot of laughter.
  16. 14-year-old girl: Taylor Swift 14-year-old girl: Taylor Swift 11-year-old girl: Taylor Swift 7-year-old boy: whatever I put on in the car or at home Gotta love a dutiful son.
  17. At first, I thought, "Why is someone in VA so happy about the opening act in Santa Barbara?" And then I remember - it is Wilco Me, and she goes cross country to see Jeff/Wilco. It all makes sense!
  18. I don't think you are crazy. You like some of the pop artists on the charts right now; probably more than you have in the past. Makes great sense thatv you would think it is a high water mark for pop music. I don't change the station when Adele, Lorde, or Daft Punk are on the radio. And the Robin Thicke song is catchy. However, looking at the top 10 artists on the current Billboard Hot 100, it does not seem like a Golden Age to me (Lorde, Miley Cyrus, Eminem, Katy Perry, Avicii, One Direction, Drake, Imagine Dragons, OneRepublic, and Lady Gaga). But I can see how it might to someone else. Li
  19. Cool story. So many great songs in that setlist. I could not listen to CCR for a decade-plus because Classic Rock stations had played them to death. Now I can again appreciate many of these songs. That said, I've never tired of "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" Glad you enjoyed the show.
  20. This made me laugh. Thank you!
