  1. Here's a Repulican lawmaker at work: http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2009/07/08/49759/az-state-senate-earth-6000/ and http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/arizona-lawmaker-who-floated-mandatory-church-attendance-has-history-extremism
  2. Good point. Let businesses in the south get out their "No Blacks Allowed" signs while you're at it. I'm sure they were never out of reach.
  3. Ha! I hope I didn't come across as a crotchety old man. I guess most music is derivative in some sense. Some artists just have a complete lack of originality or authenticity. If they're not adding something to their influences, why bother? I don't think Parquet Courts are bad, they just (as of yet) haven't done anything for me.
  4. I feel like I should like them, since I like the old bands/era that they're clearly influenced by. Maybe that's the problem. Too derivative? The one artist I find myself really disliking so far is Jessica Pratt. I find her voice incredibly annoying.
  5. I've been checking out some of the acts I hadn't listened to before. I don't care for Parquet Courts so far. Can't put my finger exactly on why. The Felice Brothers and Real Estate are very good, and I'm really enjoying William Tyler.
  6. There should be absolutely no religion involved in any part of law or government. History and human nature prove that they do not mix well. Believe what you like, but keep it to yourself. There may be "degrees of extremism", but isn't any extremism bad? Remember, most if not all of the "laws" that ISIS is enforcing are identical to the ones in the bible, but Islam is hundreds of years behind Christianity, and has never had its enlightenment. Nor will it, as any attempt is quickly stomped out. They're still going through their witch burning phase, and any interference, especially by western c
  7. 4/15: Gregory Alan Isakov 4/17: Nels Cline & Julian Lage 6/26-8: Solid Sound
  8. I have a book full of stubs too. I wish I had stubs for all of the club shows where I paid at the door - I've seen some great ones. I've seen a lot of bands multiple times, but Wilco is the only one that's gone over ten (and counting).
  9. Cool! Thanks for the heads-up. They were scheduled there late last year & it didn't happen for some reason.
  10. Surrender by Cheap Trick in 1986. My first concert. They were opening for Motley Crüe (hey, I was 15!) in Edinburgh.
  11. It probably should exclude him, yes, but sadly it will only enhance his standing in today's GOP. He didn't attend one of those commie liberal book learnin' places, so he's unburdened by any real historical, political, social or scientific knowledge or enlightenment. As such, he's a true American patriot, to be viewed by the mouth-breathers without suspicion.
  12. There's almost no point in mentioning any contemporary pop, dance, rap or country lyrics. It's all so laughably bad. My pick for worst overall lyricist would probably be Jim Morrison. Just awful, and made more so by his pretentious arrogance. American poet my ass.
  13. That sounds fantastic, but you're missing out on another snowstorm (with bonus icy rain coating!). Seriously though, that's a great double bill. Wish I was there.
  14. It's Glasgow. You're gonna have some brawling locals.
  15. They love it. I do not share their enthusiasm, but it's nice to watch them enjoy it.
  16. We're in the New London area (Ledyard) and there's probably 18" already - and it's still coming down at about 2-3" per hour. Huge drifts.
  17. I'll be surprised if they don't. Very excited to see this - it's taken long enough!
  18. With two 5 year-olds in the house, I have no need for an alarm clock. It's like living with two giant larks.
  19. How was it? I wish I could've made it to one of these shows.
  20. Don't be a hero - secure the nuts and leave your house at once. Call a professional. The last thing we need is another senseless pistachio related injury. Maybe try one of the more docile nuts next time. This may be helpful: http://youtu.be/fu8DHXr0UMs
  21. I'm willing to bet we can add Richard Thompson to the list.
  22. TP summed it up pretty well. NFF is excellent, but overall I prefer Solid Sound. My only real complaint about NFF is, as some of you have mentioned, the overlap of sets. Last year there were some tough choices, and I either missed or caught partial sets from bands I'd like to have seen. As much as we'd like to attend both festivals, my wife and I have decided to alternate. We'll do NFF on years when there's no Solid Sound. In making that decision, we've probably just ensured that this year's NFF lineup will be the best ever. You're welcome.
