Wilco- March 18, 2017 Beacon Theater, NYC [ Night 1 of 4]

Ashes is such a great opener for a Wilco show. Maybe even more so in a theater venue such as the Beacon where the dynamics of the tune are so palpable. I invited cousins last night, music fans but first Wilco exposure, and all day I was hoping they get an Ashes opener. Last night's version did not disappoint. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

Nice job on the set list and show report. Great to meet up! The band was in fine form. What a treat to see them in the Beacon. Perfect size venue, with excellent sound. The band sounded great. The VC, BBN and Reservations section was incredible. Nobody does dark and beautiful better than Wilco. Jeff was bantering with some less than oblique references to our political times, encouraging folks to not feel helpless. Culminated in his storming up to the mike and saying: "my 83 year old dad tells me Don't let that monster make you sick.:" Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

Heading down from MA for Wilco! A couple of shows at the Beacon in March. Same month, same place, different band. So psyched.

Thx, never got one of those from the Beacon.

I absolutely hated Garcia's post-Irwin guitars. Could never understand why he was playing them. I think they weighed less and that made it easier for him, but the sound was terrible. No bite.

Did everyone see the email notice about 30 minute security lines to get into the Beacon? Head's up.

File this under "setlist wishlist" as the Beacon shows approach. I would love for You Satellite to return to the shows. That was my highlight of the Star Wars shows. I also think it's the centerpiece of the album. Unless I missed it, I haven't seen it on the setlists of the Schmilco shows. Would love to catch it at the Beacon, but doesn't seem to be in rotation anymore.

Thanks for all your reporting bbop. I'm going to nights 1 and 2 at the Beacon, I would be ecstatic for 13 different songs. Heck, I'd be ecstatic with any set that included Shouldn't Be Ashamed and At Least That's What You Said., I'm bringing some first timers on Saturday, I was hoping they would get the Red-Eyed>I Got You > Outtasite rock n roll ending, but oh well. We'll suffer through whatever the band has in store I'll see if I can keep it together enough to keep an accurate set list in your absence, but don't count on me to be able to do that all you Beacon folks!

Same. Especially on the "getting psyched" part.

I've been sitting on getting that, thanks for the reminder, just ordered it.

Funny thing is, they do Truckin after all. These fall '71 FM tour shows are all great. https://archive.org/details/gd71-10-30.prefm.nawrocki.26608.sbeok.shnf/gd1971-10-30d2t07.shn

Will check that out. I've always had the next night in St. Louis. Run Run Rudolph! EDIT: Oops, the Fox Theater St. Louis show I'm thinking of is 12-10-71.

^ never heard that! Hilarious. I don't think I've ever heard of a deadhead who didn't like Truckin, until today. Garcia knew better.

Wow, it's always eye-opening to read lists of "best of" or "worst of", so I shouldn't be surprised. But I'm surprised. List of tunes folks don't want to hear: Playin, Sugar Mag, Truckin (Truckin!!!???), Jack Straw (one of my favorite songs of all time, not just GD), Dark Star, Let it Grow. From GD fans posting to a GD topic. Will wonders never cease! My golf balls are logoed with "Jack Straw"

I've been warned to stay away from Craigslist several times by NY friends. Never had an issue here in Boston, but friends have gotten burned in NYC buying fake tickets off Craig's List.

Great discussion topic Mr. Heartbreak. My top 3 regular rotation GD songs that I just can't listen to anymore (in no particular order): Tennessee Jed Ramblin Rose BIODTL I just never listen to those songs anymore when they come up; they each get an immediate "skip." They were all big faves when I was young and first getting into the Dead around the time of Europe '72, but I'm just done with them. I limited my selections to heavy rotation GD tunes. By definition, that excluded some of the later era tunes that I can't stand. But that's an entirely different discussion (and one that's bee

^similar issue for my wife, who works in a school system in the Boston area. We never go out before Friday, but now it looks like school will be extended through that Friday (if not the following Monday), which means rather than a leisurely drive out early on Friday, we'll be scrambling to get out there, leaving Needham not before 3:30 at the earliest, causing me much anxiety.
