  1. I wouldn't have picked up on any MSL similarities if it wasn't brought up. It's a pretty big stretch if you ask me, with some imagination you can find similarities in anything.
  2. I thought SBS was one of the best things they ever did, along with the rest of their catalog.
  3. And your point is what, that rock stars lose their street cred when they grow up and enjoy their earnings.
  4. I'm probably the minority, I don't mind Rod's Great American Songbook stuff. I'd love to see a full on Faces reunion and tour but the other articles I read yesterday hint at just a few shows or one show a-la Zep's O2 gig. I supposed more will be revealed in the coming weeks if they rehearse 11/17.
  5. Great songs, the second one sounds kind of like it could be a Mott The Hoople tune.
  6. You'll get no stoning from me I agree 100%. It's not his stage moves that distract me but how many of his solos are somewhat pointless and lack musical substance. His overuse of hyper fast tremolo picking tends to detract from the melody of the songs all for the sake of being non traditional and it starts to become a gimmick after a few songs. I'm not going to tell him how and what to play but for a guy with obvious chops I think he would be a better musician if he stuck to the more musical stuff and kept the noise tricks to a minimum. After a while it sounds harsh. If the neighbor kid was ba
  7. I don't know if I expected to not like it, I hate the Fillmore and their $10 for a can of beer attitude, but I didn't care for that show. I hate to admit it but I'm done with Wilco shows unless the personnel changes, I'm starting to think Glenn and Nels are a freakin' cliche. The setlist had too much YHF material for my liking, I'm sure I'm in the minority but of all their albums I like that one the least. I don't know if it's backlash for being panned because SBS is mellow but they way they end every YHF tune in a big cacaphonous crash made it seem like they had a chip on their shoulders to p
  8. Cool, thanks for the new link. I thought it sounded great and it was as I expected it to be. There really isn't any other way to sing a song like that, since it's not a rocker there's no reason for them to appear all pumped up but Jeff put a few words in places that were off the beat. Nels sounded great through that Fender Deluxe Reverb and Jeff's guitar sounded good too. I'm curious what that little combo is, the vintage looking silver strand grill cloth has me thinking it's some old department store amp though it didn't look like any of the usual Silvertone, Danelectro, Valco stuff. Actual
  9. Maybe their gear is in Denver or is in transit from where ever they played before that.
  10. I loaded the car up with these this morning. Deadbolt-Voodoo Trucker Satan's Pilgrims-Plymouth Rock Eddie and the Showmen-Squad Car Spell-Mississippi Taj Mahal-Taj Mahal
  11. Drambuie over ice, it mixes well with benadryl and hay fever.
  12. ZZ Top-Rio Grande Mud John Mayall's BB-'Beano'
  13. Not me, I hate the Fillmore. Actually I'm not fond of any GA venue where you have to fight to keep your place all night. That and RR has those awesome Finlandia Vodka lemonade stands.
  14. RR wasn't close to being full last time they headlined there. When the Rocky Mountain News published their summer concert schedule in late spring it had Wilco slated late summer for a show at RR with the date to be announced, evidentally it didn't pan out. In a way I'm glad, the last time they headlined RR it didn't go over too well IMO. It was a good show and the band played great but it didn't seem like they had the 'fire power' to be heard over the crowd. I sat towards the middle about 35 rows up and you could hear people 5 rows away talking about how the band should turn up. It doesn't loo
  15. Did you kill the brain dead miscreant that put a drink on your amp?
  16. I don't think PCB amps necessarily sound bad just that the construction can be shoddy or repairs can be difficult, it's the horror stories of tube sockets mounted on the PCB and shoddy circuitry that gets me freaked out. But yeah I think nothing beats hand wired, the way the tone can be dialed in, even the lead dress makes a difference.
  17. I doubt their venture into SS amps has anything to do with quality but is a smart way to build profits by selling budget priced amps using the Marshall name. But yeah you're right the SS Marshall stuff is junk. However I'm not a fan of their newer tube amps either the only new Marshall I would consider buying is the hand wired 1974X. I only have one tube amp that uses PCB's, the rest are hand wired and I can't see myself ever going back to mass production PCB amps.
  18. Marshall still makes some decent affordable mid powered combo's, the DSL series is okay for the money. You can find used DSL201's in the $500-600 range, at 20W it's a pretty cool amp.
  19. I am guilty of having 11 pedals on my board univibe-ocatave\fuzz-wah-2 overdrives-compressor-chorus-phaser-flanger-20 db clean boost-delay. But I rarely use more than OD and one modulation or filter effect at one time. I get reverb from my amp so I don't use my analog delay much. For me effects are for slight coloration though some can be necessary if I'm trying to get a certain sound. For example if I want a Hendrix\Machine Gun tone it's necessary to kick on the Univibe and some light OD.
  20. The cheapy Marshall solid state and hybrid combos really don't get classic Marshall crunch, I would look elsewhere. It's not really a small combo at 50W but the Traynor YCV 50 Blue has EL-34's, and that's really what gets that tone. You may want to look into a decent pedal, the MI Audio Crunchbox is described as 'Marshall in a box' it nails the Marshall tonality. I know you are looking to save money but you may want to look into the Ceriatone clones. For around $500 you can buy a complete working chassis with tubes, you'd have to build or buy a cab. That guy builds awesome hand wired clones.
  21. I have two things to say. 1) Not everyone that uses a multi EFX unit has bad tone. 2) Individual analog stomp boxes aren't a guaranty of good tone. The tone is in the player, either you have it or you don't and that means having the ability to dial in musical tones. I'm not in the 'I need 250 tone modes at my feet' club but I know guys that are and do it with great success. A friend of mine, who gigs regularly, uses a Line 6 Floor Pod straight into the PA, no amp. His tone is killer. I also know guys with pedalboards full of boutique gear that sound like anus. It really depends on the pl
  22. I have, Blueridge makes great guitars for the money. My brother has a Breedlove, it really wasn't my cup of tea but he loves it. He passed over 2 Gibby's (Hummingbird Artist and a SWD) and high end Takamine before deciding on the Breedlove so what do I know.
  23. I'd look around for a TS clone before I'd buy either the Boss BD or a newer TS-9 or rediculously overpriced new TS-808. If a shop in your area carries MI Audio effects check out their Blues Pro (has a built in fuzz option switchable by a mini toggle) or Blues Boy Deluxe, for just over $100 these are great boxes. The best TS clone I've ever tried is the MJM Blues Devil, all of MJM's stuff is freakin' great.
