  1. Just finished Stranger Things and now moving on to Broadchurch.
  2. For an awkward exchange with Curt Schilling trying to defend some of Trump's comments click here: https://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/names/2016/10/14/schilling-defends-donald-trump-bizarre-comment-about-year-old-girl/p32rsUzQknAqT40Qzu3l0I/story.html
  3. I got a free print subscription to Rolling Stone. The review of Weir's solo album in the current issue begins "The Grateful Dead bassist's first solo album in a decade is a set of 'cowboy songs' ..."
  4. As well as can be expected. (Sorry - don't know how to post it here ...)
  5. I went to the signing in Cambridge yesterday and agree with earlier comments. It was very well run - like a combination of the TSA and the Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld. Wait in line, step up, get your picture, move on. Bruce looked pretty exhausted by the time I got there and he had a ways to go. I thanked him for Nebraska and he thanked me for coming.
  6. Very nice. Do you get a chance to talk with him even briefly? Or is it step up, get your book, your picture, and move on?
  7. Jose Fernandez killed in boating accident: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17632541/miami-marlins-ace-jose-fernandez-dies-boating-accident
  8. Wow - really? I haven't seen him in ages. Do you know who is in his band?
  9. Another fine show by The Feelies last Friday night.
  10. Quite a finish in the Red Sox-Yankees game. It's easy to second guess but this one is on Girardi.
  11. Joey Santiago checks into rehab: http://www.pixiesmusic.com/2016/09/official-band-statement/
  12. Oh I agree - I was (mostly) joking. For an event like this they need to have it tightly controlled or it would be mayhem from the outset. I go to author readings/book signings fairly regularly and there is always someone who pulls out the author's entire works and wants each book signed and then wants to have a conversation with the author.
  13. Got a wristband! But the list of instructions is like going through the TSA. Ticket is non-transferable. No signatures allowed. You are required to buy a copy of the book at the event. No bags or memorabilia. Bookstore is closed three hours before the event. You will be handed a pre-signed copy of the book and will have one picture taken with Bruce. You cannot look him in the eye. (OK, I made that last one up ...)
  14. Yes, bböp - thanks for doing these recaps! I look forward to reading them.
  15. Nice! I'm going to try for the Cambridge one. Wristbands are available tomorrow.

  17. Finished watching Freaks and Geeks over the weekend. This scene always gets me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmCpmEQD0L4
  18. Mine arrived lat night. Only listened once but I like it. And the signatures look good too.
  19. The Harry Potter book? It's OK. I'm glad I read it but I'm not sure it's a vital part of the Harry Potter canon. My daughter (who is pretty fanatical about HP) described it as above-average fan fiction. And it's the script of the play so it has a very different feel than the other books.
  20. Just started watching Freaks and Geeks with my daughter and we are both enjoying it. I don't think I've seen an episode since they first aired. I'm pretty much the exact age as the geek crowd (freshman in high school in 79-80) so much of it hits home. I remember the freak crowd walking around looking dazed when John Bonham died. It's a great show.
  21. Yes! Saw it last night and Krasinski was there for a Q&A. He was asked generally about the music in the movie and he had a funny response. He said that as an actor and even the director you may have ideas about the music but you still need to go through the producer. But in this case he was the producer too so he got to pick his favorite music. He said the songs in the movie were basically his soundtrack while they were scouting, casting, and shooting the movie.
