  1. 11-17-1999 - Recher Theater - Towson, MD I had no idea what to expect. They were awesome and so impressive to me. It was like finally finding that real rock band that you always knew existed. Like the one that they sing about in "The Late Greats." They were loud and raucous and they were wild. You could see the dirt in their fingernails because they were probably on the road for so long. Jay Bennett blew me away from his opening notes of Via Chicago. After a set break, Tweedy performed a couple of songs by himself. You could just tell that he was the driving force of the band. I w
  2. I can fix a false positive for you pretty quickly. How about a LED sign that says, Hey, 2 people were killed this morning in a dorm shooting and we haven't caught anybody yet, so we have decided not to have class today. That makes it a no-brainer to buy a bunch of them an put them around the campus.
  3. The only thing that confuses me is the part about the 2 minute mark: "You Are My Face" in particular becomes a stronger song around the two-minute mark when Cline lets it rip and the band all chime in strongly before fading down a minute later, echoing the crest and fall of Television's "Marquee Moon," a Tweedy favorite. Do you mean the 3 minute mark, or the really cool guitar solo around 1:30 - which I'm pretty convinced is Tweedy.
  4. Actually here's a better question: If campus officials knew there was a shooting on campus and they did not have anybody under custody, why were there classes going on?
  5. I think that length of time was when the "Hot Now" sign was on at the Krispy Kreme. Truly sad. My heart goes out to the families.
  6. The trick is to get in on the pre-sale early enough. I got front row last time at Merriweather and it was awesome. That was June 26th I think, two years ago. It was hot as an oven.
  7. Very nice. -- I work like 3 minutes from Merriweather. That will be nice to go directly from Work -> Bar -> Show
  8. Big frame? Huge Bear of a man? He must be really overweight or something because when I met him I thought he was kind of short. I'm only 6'1". I love his music and never under-estimate his contribution to Wilco. My only complaint with him is that he always has to get little lines in there about which songs he wrote in Wilco. Wilco will never just be "Radio Cure" and "California Stars" to me. I think he should be most proud of the producing/engineering roles he played as well as his excellent musicianship. Just my opinion.
  9. I have them somewhere. The Wilco stuff is not much different from the album versions but the Billy Bragg stuff is different. The best song on the demo CD I have is "I Guess I Planted"
  10. Good post. I was actually thinking of going and camping this year. I guess camping would be cool but I'm not sure I want to roll in the mud for 3 days and not be able to get a nice shower in a room at night. How far are the hotels from the campsite?
  11. I don't know but when I read his articles I can understand him. Whenever I read other writers articles in RS and say Pitchfork I have no idea what the hell they are writing about. I like the fact that you don't need a hipster decoder ring to understand what he's writing about.
  12. Grammarwise: 35% Punctuation; %40 Speling: 30% I forget the other topic: 16%
  13. Can someone post or point the way to a place to download said demo version? I'm not sure I have heard it. Also, are there any theories as to why no Being There demos ever saw the light of day?
  14. ClearChannel is all about the status quo. Any change in technology is a threat to their near monopoly. Or at least the one they are trying to build.
  15. It think they actually had an old time typewriter on the bus and somebody would just come along and add one line at a time. There's an article out there somewhere that describes this process.
  16. Pretty neat post. I think you guys were missing the point. I read this as tongue in cheek and admittedly hypocritical. Sometime we can't control even our guiltiest pleasures.
  17. I think this is the one where he told my best friend that Wilco doesn't need a record contract to make rock and roll. - Mr. Baseball cap wearer. Probably my favorite is 1997-05-09 - Fillmore, San Franciso, CA
  18. Check: Just a Fan->Woodgrain->DickD.
  19. He has played some really cool venues the last 2 times he came here. Both Minor league stadiums and once with Willie Nelson -- it rained really bad so I'm glad I didn't go to either one. But now that he is playing guitar I will go.

I need to get it too. I love that song!
  21. Sounds like it. I guess we could go on forever comparing albums like vs. dislike of mastering. one thing i've always said about my opinions: they can change and they are hypocritical in a sense that there may or may not be logic involved. I just know what I like.
