  1. First of all, I didn't say that. Second, let's clarify. I think The Kinks best work is as great as any band ever & it mirrors The Beatles peak as well, lasting from '65 through '70 (I'd include all the non-album tracks & the songs from "Percy"), the drop-off for me, while not severe, starts with "Muswell Hillbillies" & then just gets steeper & faster, then there's a nice little renaissance from '78/'79 through '84/'85 (including "Return To Waterloo"), then possibly the worst bottoming out yet. Here's what I actually wrote, which, again, was this- "Ray Davies two albums from
  2. Well this sums it up pretty darn well...though I'm sure there's more that's missing, if we looked harder...but...hopefully there will be much more of this type of stuff in the years to come...as we all grow older amidst the wonders of Wilco- past, present & future...
  3. Nice call on the Lou Reed!!! And thanks for appreciating the list. "Magic & Loss" was made when he was 50 & I'd certainly put that way up there for sure... Weird to say, but... when I was living in NYC & both "Set The Twilight Reeling" & "Ecstasy" came out, they didn't stick with me... I'm gearing up to give them some time this Winter...liked what I heard when I came back to them just after his death, but need more time (& distance from the death) to know more about how I feel about them....
  4. I think it's ironically funny that they put 19 songs on each CD of an album called "What's Your 20?"... wonder if it was on purpose, or not? Wonder if they could've squeezed any more on there? At least one more per would've been great... I'm betting most folks know this, but just in case..."What's Your 20?" is a phrase used by truckers, & it translates to "what's your location?". Where "10-4" means "OK", someone's "10-20" is referring to their current specific whereabouts...I'm 50, so I grew up in an era where truckers & CB radios were a craze at some point (the "Smokey & The Band
  5. Gornok you are now rivaling Lotti here as my most anticipated poster. And regarding Herb Alpert...simply put the mute for his trumpet under the offending off balance appendage/region... Glad to see this all released in one place, but being that I've got it all... I'm in no big hurry to get this...but... I do hope it means that we might see some more archival releases like this at some point. Obviously having all the extra tracks in place for what could have been the double album version of "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" seems like the obvious place to kick off a "Deluxe Edition" series, & a de
  6. They're in, the first Tweedy Roadcase shows.. & ready for download...and,. for the record, an amazing version of "Deeper Down" from "Wilco (The Album)" is on there (my request for that show actually too)...so one hopes that this might be a sign that the whole episode with those songs being stricken from the record, so to speak, & edited out of Roadcase shows, has, at long last, come to a close...one can hope...anyhow.. Checking out Washington D.C. now & it is/was an incredible show...to quote bböp's review at the time of the show- "Wow, all I can say is that was almost certainly t
  7. I agree McCartney did his best work with The Beatles, & I'll take Springsteen's first four especially...but that doesn't mean that work they did after that isn't also top shelf, great & essential, even if it isn't "the best of the their some level/sense of best" and/or great... So I think lots of artists have released great works, of varying degree, during different eras... some, have even done works that equaled (or arguably bettered) their previous greatest works in the Autumn of their careers ...though granted that's much rarer...Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen & Yo La Tengo are the
  8. And one I absolutely stand by in relation to the works I listed here!! Thompson's best work in, I'd say 20 years, same for Neil Young. Bowie's & Springsteen's best in more like 30! You notice I didn't list loads of albums for those artists, but the single albums I did list for them, produced after any of them were 50, are what I consider real high water marks indeed. Paul Simon, Paul McCartney & Leonard Cohen have all been staggeringly great & consistent, since they've turned 50, even more so than Dylan in my opinion. Each of the three of them have released three album each (if w
  9. PLENTY to choose from...off the top of my head...some of these I'd say are absolutely essential & rate with the best work these artists have ever done, & some of the others are at least very good to great albums that should be considered... ~"So Beautiful Or So What" & "Surprise" by Paul Simon- easily as great as any albums he's ever made.... & "Rhythm Of The Saints", which is that great too, was made when he was 49. ~"Popular Songs" & "Fade" by Yo La Tengo... the band that most strongly rivals Wilco, for best American catalog ever...they are celebrating their 30th annive
  10. Every time Lotti posts here, it's like discovering that today is some amazing holiday that you never knew existed, but now you are surprised & elated to be fully & deeply celebrating!! Happy Lott's latest post Day (10/7/14)!!!
  11. I've yet to hear him/them do "Jesus Wept" but I'd love to! "Only The Lord Knows" by Tweedy is just killer & "One True Vine" is one of my fave deep cut songs that he ever wrote too- so glad it ended up being resurrected for the album, & as the title track no less. Ever hear of Jeff/Wilco doing "Every Step"? Love to hear that one too...love "You Are Not Alone" as well!!
  12. And here's the snippet for "Everyone Hides" ... man "Do The Minimum", "Why Why Why" (both of which I've heard full length versions of) & now the intriguing "Everyone Hides"...this guys cast-offs that didn't make the album are stacking up like a pile 'O gold here... how many more are there are out? These three plus "Love Like A Wire" & "Only The Lord Knows" & we've got another 1/2 an album!!! https://soundcloud.com/sony-soundtracks/jeff-tweedy-everyone-hides
  13. I can certainly here that "Strangers" rhythm you're talking about...but "Nobody Dies Anymore" really feels like a lost Neil Young song to me...
  14. Right On! Thanks gang!! Great set so far...hope it's archived...if not we still got this one (& it's full length, not a festival length set...) "Love Like A Wire"!!! As-Hoo!!!
  15. I heard Flowering & Summer Noon... what was before Diamond Light?
  16. Right On! Had to handle a small, but mercifully brief crisis... in on "Diamond Light", what did I miss? Hope it's archived...
  17. OK 4:30 & some other bluegrass band is on there (something archived because Tweedy isn't streaming is my bet)...things aren't lookin' very good I don't think... 4:45- Wonder why Team Tweedy didn't want their performance streamed?
  18. Great stuff!! And thanks for the tip... any idea on how long between bands? It's nearly 4:15 & the * about being unconfirmed for streaming is still there for Tweedy & Emmylou Harris...and I don't see them yet...still holding out hope for the best here...
  19. Duly noted & corrected...I blame The Animals... And, just for fun, & while I'm at it...here's Bruce Springsteen explaining how the opening riff for "Badlands" was lifted from "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"...I'd never noticed it before myself... And here's "Badlands"...
  20. I'm hoping that Solid Sound 2015 features two Wilco performances on Fri. & Sat., with another covers/request night (I'm going for "It's All Too Much" by The Beatles as a show stopping closer suggestion), & on Sunday a performance by Tweedy!! I don't know if we'll get the solo acoustic half of things too, though that would be amazing if it happened. I've gotta believe there will be two nights of Wilco, & I'd be very surprised if there wasn't also a Tweedy performance too And my wish list for other performers... I'd love a repeat of Yo La Tengo (but doubt we'll get that)...Richard T
  21. It's got to be soon for those two Tweedy Roadcase releases to be released...they were pushed back to October, & well, it's October now. I'm also hoping that there will be some other Tweedy Roadcase release that features all of the stuff not on the earlier two from this Spring...meaning- "Hazel", "Please Don't Let Me Be So Misunderstood", "Pigeons" & "Why Why Why"...and maybe we'll be able to add more to the list of originals before this leg of the tour ends... ...and also "Love Like A Wire" (the Diane Izzo cover which is now a set list staple & which I absolutely adore), his great
  22. 1) So with the addition of "Do The Minimum" (the B-side to the vinyl "Summer Noon" single) & the two tracks from the forthcoming "St. Vincent" Film Soundtracks, "why Why Why" (which he/they are doing live now) & "Everyone Hides", we are now up to 23 finished songs coming from the "Sukierae" sessions... 2) He's now performed both "Pigeons" & "Please Don't Let Me Be So Understood", leaving only "I'll Sing It" & "I'll Never Know" as the only two album tracks not yet performed live...he's even doing "Why Why Why" from the forthcoming soundtrack mentioned above- meaning he's done 1
  23. Great interview...Spoiler Alert!! The with gun to the head Desert Island Disc for Jeff (& Spencer said it was the first album that came to his mind too..)- "The Beatles (The White Album)"- The Beatles!!!
