You might actually find some of them at Best Buy or your average chain store. My wife and I went to the mall with some friends this weekend, and the guys went to the music/video store while the ladies did their thing. I was surprised to find the remaster of Dog Days there.

Very nice! That was definitely one of the highlights of the show for me. -
Any fans? I think it's the best show on TV right now. Doesn't quite fill the void left by The Sopranos, but it's still pretty great.

You too, Hal. Extra props to the folks who joined us (sorry, I forgot your names, kids... ) That's a lot faster than the norm, man! Good job! -

Another one in the books. Good time before the show hanging with some folks from here on the board, and a very solid set. I hung around the front of the theatre during sound check, and heard them playing Was I In Your Dreams and Blood of the Lamb. They also sound checked the two new songs, and possibly a third ... didn't recognize any of it. And they sound checked Pieholden, but as you can see, it didn't make the cut. It was nice to have so much Being There and YHF love. The crowd really gets into the rockers down here, and that's what they got during the latter part of the show. Highlight -
I think Sky Blue Sky sounds just like Far, Far Away. I guess being derivative isn't such a bad thing when you're borrowing from yourself, but it still left me feeling underwhelmed. I think Misunderstood and Sunken Treasure are both much better songs than anything on SBS. Just one man's opinion. I also am in the camp that feels that nothing on SBS hits the highs of BT, ST or YHF. But again, just one man's opinion. It's not a bad record, but it doesn't get as much play (from me) as the other stuff.

Nice Being There one-two punch at the end. Hope they break out Monday in F-L-A this week. How many people there? Anyone know?

Funniest non-sequitur ever. You're absolutely right, in everything you said. Like I said before, have a good weekend. Welcome to Via Chicago, buddy!

Who mentioned Hannah Montana? I'm simply saying that it's this one guy's word against Paul Simon, and the fact that he tried to paint Simon as "struggling" is pretty absurd, and smacks of sour grapes. There may be a lot more to this story than we'll ever know, but just because a band has "immense respect from their peers and tons of street cred" doesn't mean that every word from their band members is gospel. Do all the band members stand by all of this one guy's statements? I'd be curious to know ... Dylan's career was at an all time low during the 80s too ... that's not really relevant t

I would take the story with a huge grain of salt. The guy couldn't even remember what year he joined Los Lobos, yet he remembers many specific details (including dialogue) from what happened just two years later? Come on. It's very possible that they played around with some riffs, or even an already existing chord structure, and Simon copped it for the song. What about the lyrics? Did they write those too, and Paul stole them? I highly doubt it. The guy makes it sound like everything they ever played in all their rehearsals was a completed song. Plus, just like Louie said, Los Lobos got a huge

Damn, I forgot all about Mr. Garcia's b-day, and yet I was already listening to Mars Hotel when I opened this thread. Fookin' ironic.

That was hilarious: Colbert in full Neil Young regalia. They should record with him: CSNC!

I may not get there quite that early, but pretty close ... maybe 3? I'll shoot you a PM.

I did not remember this, as I was quite the crispy critter back in those days ... but I just listened to it, and sure enough, the entire first minute of Good Lovin' is a major Sugar Mag tease. It's not a separate track on my copy. Weird, but funny.

I saw them in Richmond about a week before that, and it was awesome. My brother was at that St. Stephen show.

Nice to see some love for Zappa on here. I would add: Watermelon In Easter Hay Zoot Allures Dog Breath>Uncle Meat Sofa No. 1 Rat Tomago Other artists: Interstellar Overdrive - Pink Floyd Foxglove - Bruce Cockburn Water Into Wine - Bruce Cockburn Hendrix - Tax Free

The live versions of a lot of songs mentioned on here - including Streetlife Serenader, Summer Highland Falls & Los Angelenos - are excellent. Songs From The Attic is a CD that really demonstrates that. Recommended listening for Joel fans.

I think Close to the Borderline is a great song. And the title track from The Stranger has one of the greatest ever 'whistling' parts in a song. Brilliant!

Damn, I haven't been following this thread in a while. Just now realized I missed last week's anniversary of this show. Anyone ever see these earlier musical legends in conert?

The Who in '79 Grateful Dead in '82, '83 & '84 Roger Waters w/ Clapton on guitar in '84 Zappa in '88 All were great. -
This weekend, I didn't shave at all, a rarity for me. So this morning I woke up with a pretty heavy shadow. I went downstairs to shave it with my electric razor, and while I was shaving, I was thinking about the following lines from George Carlin: Here's my beard: Ain't it weird? Don't be skeard; It's just a beard. That's the thing, the word beard shook a lot of people up. Beard. Sounds too foreign. Beard. Lenin had a beard. Gabby Hayes had whiskers. Then I went back upstairs, logged onto my computer, and read that George had died. Now that is weird.

Wow, there's a name I never thought I'd see on here. I just saw this guy with Jimmy Carl Black a few months ago. Pretty weird stuff, and interesting, but I really can't help much beyond that; had never heard of him until right before the show.

I'm gonna go all sorts of old school here. Pink Floyd - You guys never did better without Syd. Frank Zappa - Too many poo-poo jokes, Uncle Frankie. Grateful Dead - Sorry, but most of your studio albums aren't that great. Joni Mitchell - Say, did you notice that your first two albums sound just like Joan Baez? Hendrix - Can you say "undignified death?" Warren Zevon - Dude, I read your bio, and you really were a misogynist. Dylan - Hey, Bob, ever notice how everybody else sings your stuff better than you do? Not a favorite, but I can't resist this last one: Son Volt - You mean

If the choice is only limited to studio albums, I'd flip a coin between Highway 61 Revisited & Bringing It All Back Home. If live albums are in the mix, Live 1966: Royal Albert Hall beats them all (especially Disc 1: for me, those versions of Visions of Johanna, Baby Blue and Desolation Row are the holy grail of Dylan recordings).
