  3. He said, "What were you arrested for, kid?" And I said, "Litterin'" . . . . And they all moved away from me on the bench there, with the hairy eyeball And all kinds of mean, nasty things, till I said, "And creatin' a nuisance." And they all came back, shook my hand, and we had a great time...
  4. Surprised no one came in here to today to comment on the non-story of Hillary finally announcing. She is getting excoriated in the comments section of every online story about it. Benghazi! Vince Foster! Married to a rapist!
  5. He may have been the first human to journey into outer space...but he was still a commie.
  6. Can't log onto VC from my phone for some reason, so I didn't get to post here over the weekend. Went to a great free festival in Tallahassee called Word of South. This was the first year it's been held, hoping it will be an annual event. Caught Canadian legend Bruce Cockburn (front row) both Saturday night by himself and then Sunday afternoon performing with Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Robert Olen Butler (front row again). Oh, and Marcus Roberts Trio on Sunday morning. Fun weekend.
  7. Yeah, I think suggestions would really depend on a few factors: one is whether you are driving or flying, for sure. Another is whether you want to be really close or not, how much you are willing to spend, etc. My wife and I booked a room at a little place up over the VT border. It's only about 30-40 minutes from MassMOCA, which is fine. After a raucous rock show, I can't possibly go right to bed...so a little drive in the country appeals to me. And the place is cheap. If the hotel or motel thing is not doable, and you are not a camper, I have found Airbnb to be a very pleasant way to book
  8. http://www.jambase.com/Articles/124648/Santa-Clara-Grateful-Dead-50-Performances-Confirmed Looks like Phil is included after all. EDIT: So, let's do the math...3 midwest shows...2 west coast shows...and zero east coast shows. Couldn't have made a single night in NYC? Capitol Theatre? DC? After all the love they got from us all those years here on the east coast? I can't afford this crap, but it's actually kind of insulting now. You know what, every one of those "core four" SOBs can kiss my hairy white ass. From now on, it's downloading SBDs and that is it. Not giving them another penny of
  9. If Hixter and KevinG can agree on something, I think it's high time all the schmucks in D.C. get together, stop grandstanding, and find some common ground.
  10. Yeah, Phil was great in the studio, but ruined many an otherwise excellent live tune with off-key/out-of-tune/flat/pitchy etc. harmonies. I find some of them to be almost excruciating. It's weird how solid Jerry, Bobby and even Pigpen generally are in the vocal dept...but not Phil or Donna. Could they not hear themselves, or is it just a question of vocal ability in a live setting? I wonder. That 70s equipment was pretty primitive. These days, no question, Phil should not be trying to sing at all. Hope you are right and that Bruce H. takes those over. Speaking of Pigpen, I started listenin
  11. McCain upstages Rand Paul's announcement with one of his own. http://www.aol.com/article/2015/04/07/us-sen-john-mccain-announces-hes-running-for-sixth-term/21162177/ Funniest part of that was the AOL home page made it look like he was running for Prez again:
  12. I cannot believe you said this. I say it all the time, but I can't believe you said it. I love him in the studio (Box of Rain, Unbroken Chain...Pride of Cucamonga, not so much), but live...ugh. I think he just struggled with playing and singing at the same time, which I can totally understand. I blame his background vocals for ruining more otherwise-great versions of early 70s tunes than even Donna.
  13. I see they did True Love Will Find You In The End again at this show. Does anyone know why that is not a song request option on the Wilcoworld.net page? Perhaps TPTB could be notified to rectify that? It does get played, after all. I would request it.
  14. Yeah, I mean, come on: Chicago just got that 6-night residency in December. Let the rest of the country get some Wilco shows before we start talking about Chicago again.
  15. I would go along with WilcoMe's definition of "worthy songs that don't get as much love or respect as they deserve." By that measure, I think we could include Wishful Thinking. I've seen these guys 6-7 times since it came out, but never heard it live.
  16. This is what is most disturbing to me about the right vs. left discussions we have in our country today. A lot of us would agree that Reagan was a relatively shitty to very shitty president, but the right today holds him in the same esteem as Lincoln or Washington. Oddly, and largely thanks to Fox News, people have totally forgotten that Reagan's greatest achievement had nothing to do with the Cold War. His greatest (actually, I should say his most infamous) achievement was moving the far right to the center. Positions that were once considered fringe and thoroughly nutty (abolishing the Depar

  19. Okay, National fans, here comes a post that might upset you...but I am asking for enlightenment, not trying to be hypercritical of a band you like. I checked out a bit of material from these guys a long time ago, and was nonplussed. What I heard was a guy who sounded like the dude from Crash Test Dummies, singing a boring, repetitive sounding song. I figured it was the newest, weirdest flavor of the month, had no staying power, and they would disappear in a year or two. Don't ask me if it was The Boxer or Alligator, I have no idea. Here we are, several years later, and not only are they st
  20. I think I would be more sympathetic if the show were in, say, Hawaii or New Zealand or some other far-flung place where other Wilco shows are not happening anywhere nearby. The fact that there are shows in several nearby cities made my sympathy factor fall pretty close to zero. I really made a strong effort to imagine how folks would feel, and in that, I included wondering what I would do in that situation. I would pick a different show with my refund. I can see people being disappointed, but whining about it and impugning the band's decision just looks like sour grapes to me.
  21. I get that this is a rework of my original comment, but I fail to see the purpose of changing "pick a Cincy, Louisville or St. Louis show instead of Indy" to "pick from many other restaurants to cater their pizza instead of Joe Homophobe's Pizza Place." Are you comparing (or contrasting) aggrieved Wilco fans to marginalized groups like LGBT? I apologize if I seem callous in being among the chorus of people who are more or less saying "suck it up." I really try to put myself in those people's shoes...unfortunately for them, I still come to the same conclusion, which is that if I were an Indy
