  1. Smartass. "Wilco's eighth album won't be ready until September at the earliest, but the group will release a 7-inch single titled "I Might," backed, fittingly, by a cover of Nick Lowe's "I Love My Label" — the first release for their new imprint. It will be available at the band's Solid Sound Festival, taking place June 24-26 in North Adams, MA, with a wider release planned for July." How funny is this...Wilco doing "I Love My Label" in celebration of their new label! Wonderful, wonderful! Oh! Yes! I love my label and my label loves me For she's so good and kind together we will pave
  2. In answer to your question, T., no I haven't heard "Heart of the Continent" Poor Virtute.
  3. Great topic! I won't make a list (too many!) but just name one that always gets to me; "City" by Mickey Jupp's Legend.
  4. M.Chris, you rabble-rouser you! My thoughts on this Dawes commercial...I always thought "when my time comes" was a reference to one's time of death. So now Chevy Silverados make me contemplate my own mortality. Is this what the commercial-makers intended? Just saw a Chevy Silverado drive down my street. Do you people know how much a funeral costs these days??!!
  5. It must've felt like the world was ending. Those last few minutes...
  6. Aw thanks, PopTodd. It was a really nice interview. At one point we were riding the escalator at LAX and Ian was talking about his young kids and how much he missed them, being on tour in the US. I was a step above him and looked back, and here's this cheeky, brazen "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" musician, with tears in his eyes. A big softie. Ian's spirit must be around the last couple of days. Today, looking for another album, I came across this album, which he "autographed" for me at that interview. He was having such fun naming each of his tour mates (Wreckless Eric, Elvis Cost
  7. Stunning and horrifying. The sheer volume of water is almost incomprehensible.
  8. WOW, Josh! A watermark doesn't bother me. It's a professional's protection.
  9. That's well put, Morgan. I agree, each kind of show has its benefits!
  10. Ah, I would absolutely love to see this! You've stirred up one of my fondest life memories. Years ago, already a huge fan, I got to interview Ian. I guess it must've been around the time of the release of New Boots and Panties...'77 or '78? I fell very hard for the man...he was so quick-witted and intelligent and disarmingly sweet! At one point, around others of his crew, he motioned to me and when I leaned over he whispered, in that fantastic cockney accent, "I fink you're smashing!" He'd picked up on the fact that I was feeling shy and overawed, and meant to relax me with the comment and the
  11. That's adorable. Yes, welcome to Via Chicago, Dave. I thought your backup singing was nifty.
  12. That was unbelievable. Thanks for sharing, it really provides perspective.
  13. No, LeRoy left before that. It wasn't a factor. I know Jeff was really sad that LeRoy decided to leave the band, but it was the right decision for Leroy I guess.
  14. What a horrible quote this is: "We are assuming that a meltdown has occurred" at a nuclear power reactor, Japan's chief Cabinet secretary says.
  15. I can happily report that Hi-Rose (Rei) is just fine, as is her family. She emailed me last night and said, "I felt the shake, but my region is safe." She also said that she didn't have any acquaintances in the stricken area. I was so relieved to hear from her! When the earthquake had just happened and the news was calling it a magnitude 7.9, I emailed her to ask whether she and her family were ok. As things got worse and worse, and I watched the tsunamis racing over everything in their path, I kept trying to reassure myself that I was pretty sure Rei was in the south, away from the epicenter
  16. Holy Toledo! This just out from CNN: (CNN) -- The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis. "At this point, we know that one GPS station moved (8 feet), and we have seen a map from GSI (Geospatial Information Authority) in Japan showing the pattern of shift over a large area is consistent with about that much shift of the land mass," said Kenneth Hudnut, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Reports from the National Institute of Geophysics and V
  17. Our VC members Kate (Reni) and Graham, the duck-billed catechist, have brought into this troubled world a perfect little bundle of beauty, just today. Please join me in sending our congratulations and love to Kate and Graham, daughter Emily, and brand new bundle of bliss, Bea. Does somebody have her birth time and length and weight close by? She was a big healthy weight, around 9 lbs, and the one photo I've seen (thanks Jen!) showed a radiant Kate bending over an exquisitely pretty baby. I'm so happy for you, Kate and Graham!
  18. My city, Riverside CA, has been "sister cities" for over 50 years with Sendai, the city closest to the epicenter. I feel such enormous sadness for Japan, and the long, hard road that lies ahead for them. The nuclear plants are a frightening situation! And I hope the Japanese are able to get a handle soon on the huge oil refinery fires. My kids keep saying that the footage coming out of Japan looks like a movie..."The Day After", or something. Surreal.
