  1. mmm sorry to hear you guys are suffering - i got it in mid jan and the cough and exhaustion are still lingering. not fun. feel better!!
  2. not that i'm hearing many value judgment points against protools in the process here, i would add that 'in defense' of the concept of organic songwriting/arranging they were playing a good number of the AGiB songs live as far back as fall 02. I heard less than you think in 11/02. they were regularly featuring ALTWYS, CimB, Muzzle of bees, on the summer 03 tours. Most bands want to demo/record songs as part of the arranging process as hearing it back with different options shows what works and doesn't - pro tools is a helluva lot cheaper and easier to use in the process of doing so.
  3. i dunno -- maybe it was just my age but i blame clown creepiness on stephen king. I don't recall being particularly creeped out out by clowns as a kid in the 70s-80s until IT came out. from that point on: clowns = creepy in the cosmic consciousness.
  4. i'm reforming the family band in honor of this news!!
  5. happy to hear mike's singing featured again - but michael is just too far upfront in the mix - too monstery. good song though.
  6. i would be the happiest clam in the mud if this were to happen and if dave were really up for it. even up through the last time i saw them in the 90s on the UK Jive tour the kinks were one of if not the best live bands i've ever seen. if they could manage half of that - even with someone backing up dave on his songs - i'd be quite happy. even if its just another album and no tour.
  7. ha, i actually heard loose fur's "Wanted" on the RADIO this morning. I was a bit disoriented by it all.
  8. wow. this is amazingly sad. While i never knew her personally or as well as so many of you - when i think of what i knew of her in the early days here i just think of exuberance and joy and all the color she added. RIP.
  9. holy shit, that setlist! i've gone from 'sure i'd see em' to "whatever it takes!" in the time it took to read that.
  10. "self promotin makes you strong." after years of wanting to - i've finally put together a band that i must say is pretty good - or at least sounds that way to me... we're called the rationales and we're playing at TTs tonight - our second ever gig. Its a late one but if you're out anyway after the sox win, stop on over at TTs to catch us at 1130pm. thanks! also playing wed oct 17 at hennesseys over by fanueil hall with a great band out of kansas called the fourth of july!
  11. thanks guys - and yeah, as i said - i've had (and have others) of both fenders and marshalls and know what to expect out of both - and yeah - having already got a deluxe and couple of smaller fender's i think i'd like the JCM in the arsenal - i guess i was just looking to make sure no one said - "wait! don' trade do that - the twin is worth more than you think" or soemthing, basically being insecure before pulling the trigger. i think i'm going to do it this weekend though.
  12. So assuming i know what i get out of both amps and assuming i already know i like the marshall sound - would you say i'm making a good trade to swap a early 2000s fender blackface (evil) twin amp for an early 80s marshall jcm 800 that was just given a clean bill of health by a tech? i know that i'd rather have the marshall (i have other big fenders anyway) and being as i bought the twin for $500 and this guy is asking $750 for the 800 that it makes financial sense - but i just want to hear someone else's opinion on the matter before i pull the trigger.
  13. i can't write in tab format to save my life - but off the top of my head - G C F G C F G C F G C F G C F E Am Am/G F C F C E7 Am Am/G F C E E7 Am F C G C then walkdown & repeat.
  14. Happy birthday Paul! Hope its a good one! see you soon!
  15. i went back about 15 years ago or so - it was amazing... i did anchorage to denali and back - didn't get to fairbanks, but be sure to get out into denali - the bus tours that take you in and then drop you off at the stations from which you can hike the foothills and smaller mountains. There was just No end to my amazement at the scale of nature there (and i'd already been familiar with the west and southwest) but there were just these huge expanses of space carved by old glaciers - the land was just so 'raw' looking. it was magnificent. i didn't sleep much and there's no feeling quite lik
  16. bump - in stores tomorrow! (seems like year's since there's been a big multi-album tuesday release date... BTom, CH, Spoon, etc. )
  17. anyone get a pic of this?
  18. its true - up unitl that moment i had a mental image of sir stewart as one guy, pedro from the scamperboard as another and the guy i met last year at the middle east as yet another. then in one instant all merged - like a bunch of small anime robots forming a mega-robot - into peter standing before me.
  19. jeff was pretty funny all show - he started out by saying: "i'm not going to talk at all tonight as we want to get in as much riffage as possible before curfew so don't be upset,ok? cause i'm not going to talk tonight. starting right after i tell this story....." and then proceeded to banter as much as i've heard from him at a boston show. they were clearly having fun - glenn was on fire! (what else is new) - the sound was great from where we were. Definitley the top boston wilco show i've seen since the 97 tour, just great high energy and a nice pace to the setlist. nice seeing everyo

anyone looking for me can find me and my luvly presale tix purchased in april in the very last row (W) of section 5. wave as you pass by on your way to the front! edit: wait! even better - according to that image above my row doesn't even exist as sec. 5 only goes up to V! (qrstuv -W- xyz - right?) yay musictoday!
  21. you know, i remember thinking a couple of years ago that "the maker" has to be creeping up the lists of most covered songs ever. I think i personally own about 9 different artists versions of it. and rightfully so - its an amazing song, but never as good as it was in lanois' hands. I'd say a good 18% of my musical background comes from acadie and FTBOW. stunning albums and an absolute must for any music fan. (well maybe except insane-clown-possee fans, but then the whole "is it music" debate kicks in, blahblahblah...) check him out.
  22. Your humble fellow VCer David Mirabella (me) is playing an acoustic solo show at TT the bear's place in cambridge around 9pm tonight. only $3 and two other great acoustic acts are on the bill as well. stop on down and say hello if you are around.
  23. i'm not sure that i hear it as a mistake in one light - but i do Love little errors in songs keeping them real and human. There's that tiny little piano flub in the agib version of theologians that makes me burst out smiling with happiness every time i hear it because it just makes it sound so real.
