  1. I hope these dates pan out--you deserve them, Froggie.
  2. I'm just thankful that they saved some good cheer--and then some--for New Year's Eve. I'll never hear "Careless Whispers" the same way again.
  3. Janet definitely added a different dimension to the Jicks' sound: heavier, a little more serious. By the same token, she didn't back down when Joanna Bolme challenged Steve to do "I Nearly Lost You" by the Screaming Trees. Here's hoping the rest of the shows on the tour will be as fun as opening night.
  4. Quick question: Is the entire site protected now? thanks
  5. From the archives. Bobb Bruno, besides being a cool musician on his own, is a good friend of Nels, and he was Jon Brion's former tech. I'm glad to hear the big bunny head made it to Chicago!
  6. Incredible. Did he play the electric drums against backing tracks? And he wasn't accompanied by a lanky, floppy-haired, Guinness-swilling musician, was he?
  7. To be exact, the very beginning reminds me of Cat Power's "American Flag," but that's about the extent of it. Obviously, we didn't get the "Colon Song," but we did enjoy a loose, low-key set without the tenseness of last month's "punching" incident hanging over everyone's head. The Barrymore is easily one of the great places to see a show with old friends, and Madison has charm to spare.
  8. Maudie, why aren't you here?! Errr, and I don't mean sitting in a Starbucks, pretending to work. :whistle Have a great day, and thanks for coming to the Southland over the weekend. I'll see you, your family, and the new paint job soon.
  9. Stephen Malkmus adds Sleater-Kinney's Weiss, sets shows November 21, 2006 12:56 PM by Tjames Madison LiveDaily Contributor Former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus looks to launch a reconfigured version of his backing band, The Jicks, with a brief run of shows in January. The tour, set to kick off with a Jan. 9 show in Tucson, AZ, will be Malkmus and The Jicks' first since the addition of former Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss. Weiss became an available commodity after her former band called it quits earlier this year. Read more about Portland supergroup action January 2007 friday
  10. Happy birthday, Mike, and holler if you need any live stuff.
  11. Hey, even Paris Hilton showed up--not at Largo, thankfully, but after the show at Dime. I mean, she crossed our paths, and I'm sure it was just because of the illustrious occasion.
  12. Also no Louris info but... SPOILER ALERT I really wanted the boring HP guy to win.
  13. In the spirit of the UK music scene in the '90s, I'll trade you an "a" for the "i."
  14. Our kid ... mad fer it ... fooking c*nt ... good times!
  15. The album's great. Between this, the Brakes, and Scritti Politti, my inner Anglophile has been very happy recently.
  16. My only beef with Roxy Music (though this applies to just about any band that's put out more than four albums these days) is that they have so many greatest hits packages, reissues, and so on out there. I always linger over the new packages, then realize I already have every song in triplicate. But it just occurred to me I could really use some "Out of the Blue" right now.
  17. You have to hope that there's someone for you/As strange as you are
  18. I'm way too ticklish for them, but maybe we can split the difference and I'll take the kite?
  19. D'oh! You just made me realize I messed up the lyric too. It's: I blew up your body But you blew my mind Those possessives are so important.
  20. My initial ambivalence toward Trace made me reject anything resembling twang for a few years, but nowadays, I think it's beautiful. So, ummm, what everyone else said.
  21. Happy birthday, Rob. I wish I had more time to talk to you at Latrobe, but glad you had a fun one.
  22. I'm not a hardcore fan, but I agree with you on "Avalon." The beauty of Flesh and Blood (for me, anyway) is that it has a lot of the sounds that the band would perfect on Avalon.
  23. I recently downloaded some of their BBC sessions from 1972-1973. They are awesome. I was always partial to Flesh and Blood.
