  1. There's really no need to justify it to this group.
  2. I bet that'll be a great night. (Too bad those 2,000 miles aren't always so easy to traverse. )
  3. Yes, we must stick together. Sorry this is the closest I could get you, but next time you're in LA, we can stalk traipse around Laurel Canyon instead. Happy birthday, Judy!
  4. I was just thinking that one of the most satisfying aspects of the shows was that it was just Jon on his own. As much as I loved seeing Benmont and Glenn on the Intonation stage with Jon last summer, I was glad that the audience was forced to see Jon on his (considerable) merits and not as a footnote to some of the bigger names with whom he's associated--not that I'd turn down a guest appearance by any of Jon's friends (except for a couple, maybe). I guess it all comes down to the sentiment that's already been posted all over this thread: Wow, what a pair of shows and what a great bunch of p
  5. No one's mentioned Boyzone?
  6. Ash, around the early to mid-'90s, when they were the cheeky teenagers who had to finish their A-levels before they could kick off their tour. I got shit for this on VC in the past, but I'm gonna say it again anyway: the Divine Comedy. Nyeah. And though they weren't really my thing, I'll add Hothouse Flowers to the list.
  7. Yup, in Latrobe, PA, and earlier in the year at one (maybe more?) of the Florida dates. I thought they were pretty darn good, though I agree that their influences are pretty clear.
  8. In an exclusive report, Jon Brion reveals the Brothers Gibb to be not just a falsetto-singing, tight-pants-wearing disco outfit, but early critics of the left-wing media bias as well.
  9. Meanwhile, we all ignore Skyflynn's depraved description. Has he no shame?
  10. If he had taken the request for "Cortez the Killer" on Friday night, we might've had to swear ourselves to secrecy on penalty of death on the matter of the setlist.
  11. I've been alternating between Here Come the Warm Jets, the Steppenwolf recording, and Meaningless for the last 24 hours.
  12. I don't recall Esquire consulting with anyone I know about these decisions.
  13. And a damn fine sport on the Colbert Report.
  14. Maudie, did you and Trish make it to the Comedians of Comedy? Midlake was great, by the way.
  15. Maudie, next time you want to hit up a show by that other guy, I'd be glad to save you a seat at the table. And no potato skins this time!
  16. London is so chock-full of music history that it's impossible to pick just one place to check out. It's all about your interests. Pick up a copy of Time Out when you get to town; some of the shows may be sold out, but it's a good resource for the week's nightlife. My favorite music neighborhoods: Camden and Notting Hill. Berwick St. down in Soho also has a great clutch of record stores.
  17. That sounds like more than one policy to me, young lady.
  18. My name is Uyen, and I'm a (sometimes) Luddite. No SBS until May for me either--errrr, other than that one time with those people.
  19. Mike, I'll know you make it out to see Jon one of these days!
  20. Man, it's going to be a fun weekend.
