  1. I love Being There on vinyl. Bought it at a show, and spent way too much at the merch table. I got an "Apple Label" pressing of "Abbey Road" For Christmas my Nana gave me a copy of one of the early Beatles records called "Something New"- it's a Capital pressing in mono (that's the weird part), and another record that I can't recall the name of, but the vinyl inside was actually a stereo copy of the "Something New" record... weird, but still cool. I love vinyl. Sort of want a better turntable though, mine has pretty bad sound.
  2. Interesting, I wonder if the numbers for "Abbey Road" are based on the new re-press version if they also include used sales of the record from previous pressings (I just bought a used copy a few weeks ago)
  3. they both play lots of instruments but that's as far as it goes i think.
  4. 2011 was a better year for shows for me, mostly because all the bands I like to see live actually toured in the southeast a LOT! I got to see Old 97's 5 times over a 7 month period, including an awesome 2 night stand at Mercy Lounge in Nashville in July (almost didn't get to go because a week prior I was diagnosed with mono after being sick for 2 weeks. the doctor let me go only requesting that I sit down the entire show, the best part was the band was cool enough to let me sleep backstage before night 2, definitely one I will remember for a long long time). Saw Wilco 3 times in a 5 day s
  5. It's that one I posted about a while ago (we can't keep presents secret in my family). It's a gatefold double LP of "Still Feel Gone" and "March 16-20" on colored vinyl... my color turned out to be grey with swirls of green (way cool!)
  6. I don't know if this counts, but you know those owl guitar straps Jeff has? My sister gave me a wristband with the same pattern in a kind of purple and orange color scheme. It's really awesome! Also, Matthew gave me a really rare Uncle Tupelo record and promo kit with an amazing poster promoting "March 16-20" and a 7" and the original Rockville CD's. All unopened. That blew my away. He also got me the "Speak Into the Rose" 10" I bought myself the vinyl road case thing, and a scarf with money my mom gave me.
  7. Wow! So some anonymous donor gave my friend Avett tickets!! I am so excited for her. Things like this make me proud of fan communities.
  8. "You Can't Kill the Rooster" had me in almost tears at work today!
  9. When they all jump together on "I Must Be High" I gasped. Rock music is awesome.
  10. I am about to finish "Me Talk Pretty One Day" I really enjoyed it. Sedaris is a very interesting character for sure
  11. OK.... VC, this is Matthew,Matthew, welcome to VC.
  12. it was bound to happen. now we can be added to that ever so awesome book of "Via Chicago Couples" Good company indeed!
  13. Thanks guys. Ashley was really close to winning, but came up short. She's not bummed though, because she got a lot of encouragement from people she's never met, and she asked me to pass along her "thanks!"
  14. Apparently, my fiancé has decided to join VC. Now somebody delete this, cos I'm embarrassed. (Seriously, this thread should be deleted)
  15. thanks for all your help i really hope she wins. they're one of her favorite bands, and i can't imagine how i would feel if i were in her shoes.
  16. also, here is a direct link: if it would be faster and more convenient.
  17. Thank you guys so much! I think she is currently in 2nd place. Please pass her story on to friends on Facebook if you can. She told me she hasn't seen a show since she was a kid. It would mean so so so much to her (and me too) if she wins.
  18. hey guys, i don't normally petition for things like this, but a really good friend of mine wants to go see the avett brothers sold out show here in chattanooga on friday. i've posted to the wall of the venue to try to win tickets for her (the post with the most "likes" wins the tickets) and could really use help/support. my friend Ashley is a huge Avetts fan, and she couldn't afford the tickets. Her family has a lot of financial struggles, and she's kinda got it rough. Winning these tickets would be a real blessing for her. She's not been to many concerts, and I know it would mean the worl
  19. My fiancé and I are going to brave the weather (it's supposed to be 58! ) around 3 or 4. Not sure how early a lot of folks are going. My sister is gonna show up an hour or so before doors. When she saw the Avetts in the Smokies back at the beginning of October, she said they got there an hour before doors and managed to land a 2nd row spot. Anyway, we're going to camp out around 3, maybe 4. We'll see. I've never been to a sold out show at Track 29... so I don't really know how that will be
  20. found this on tumblr this evening, very awesome! watch "Dawned On Me" here:
  21. their own personal opinion doesn't bother me so much. it's when they said the bit about how other people laugh at my wilco stories when i leave the break room. i know it shouldn't bother me, and i know i shouldn't expect every single person to appreciate the band in the way i do. if anything listening to them rant about made me reaffirm my admiration and sort of love for the band.
  22. Yesterday I made a new-ish dessert. I saw pictures on tumblr and pintrest of these dough pockets filled with nutella, and i had to try them. instead of making a dough, though, i took the easy route and used crescent rolls (of all things). i put a dollop of nutella in the middle of each one and sort of folded them dumping style. baked them for about 10 minutes and then topped them still warm with powdered sugar. they sure were good. my dad even ate to before dinner! i know it's probably not the most original thing in the world, but i hardly ever bake things, and it was easy, if you're lookin
