  1. i do not think velcro implies that those who use it are "dumbed down" some people have physical disabilities that make it hard for them to tie their own shoes. i sort of take offense to this post, because for one, i had to use velcro shoes until the age of 12 (when i was able to gain more stable motor function of my right hand). i couldn't tie my shoes, not because i was any less intelligent than my 6th grade peers, but because i was physically unable to.
  2. Oh yeah, I actually get a discount for being a college student. 19% through Verizon on my monthly bill and 25% on phone accessories. It's really nice. I think I might take the smart phone plunge soon, especially because I do not have internet at my parents house, and spend a good amount of time there. It'd be really good to check up on school stuff and email.
  3. why not just buy from the Wilco store and modify the shirt? i know several posters here who have done so, and their results are always pretty awesome.
  4. Technical chops don't really mean a lot when you play with heart. Jeff definitely does on AGIB. One on the things that makes that record stand out so much to me is that it is so cathartic. There is genuine emotion. Personally, it's one of the most emotional records I've ever heard, and you can tell it just by listening to Jeff play. "ALTWYS", without fail, brings me to tears any time I hear it, even if just for a moment. To personify it a bit, it's like when the Grinch's heart grows big. There's just so much there.
  5. i know there was a thread about iPhones a while ago, but i couldn't find it in the search. i am considering purchasing an iphone, and was wondering, for those of you who have one, is it worth the cost (extra monthly expense for data etc...) and is there really much of a difference between the 4S and the 4? I know i could probably find the answer on google faster, but I want you guys' opinions.
  6. While we're on the subject of poo... once at my work I was handling a snake for a birthday party (the aquarium used to host birthday parties and the big surprise was that the kids got to touch a snake), and this particular day I was the one presenting the snake. Well my snake had other plans and proceeded to poo everywhere. Unsure of what to do after the snake was done, I called my boss (with phone in one hand and poopy snake in the other) who basically just said "clean the snake off with the snake bag (fancy word for pillow case) and get in that party!!". so i did, making sure every child not
  7. I'm only 45 seconds in on that video and it's incredibly epic. Wow. Happy birthday to Nels!
  8. Oh man I loved that record he did with Gibbard. Surprisingly, they complimented each other very well. I thought the last SV release was a little underwhelming for some reason, the songs were good, but it didn't stand out for me. The one before that I liked a lot (though the name escapes me as I type, and I'm too lazy to go back in the thread). I hope they tour extensively and come back through Chattanooga. I never miss them when they're through, though I can't say I'd travel to Nashville or Atlanta to see them.
  9. The guitar store right next to the ryman (i think that is the one mentioned above) is really cool. When Wilco was there back in October, Jeff and Nels were going to visit, but it was closed that day for some reason. Definitely do the CMHOF. It is cool. I have not been since I was in grade school, and I remember being very impressed (gonna try to take Matt up there to see it in the near future). I was in awe because at the time they had one of John Lennon's acoustic Gibsons. Places to eat... hmm... we went to a place on the strip called Jack's, and the BBQ was awesome, the sides not so mu
  10. I'm gonna have to give this a try. I was trying to figure it out the other night... was way off.
  11. welch79, what did you think of the show? I enjoyed it a lot, though the front quickly became too much for me to handle 1. because my sister almost got in a fight with a drunk girl over the drunk girl pushing in front of me 2. being squished by so many people behind me so, Matt and i moved back right before the encore. it was a lot better in the back, but a lot of talkers. I think track 29 is conducive to talkers though. the set list was amazing. they played for a good 45mins longer than the 1st time i saw them
  12. It was a great show! I know that a VC'er was there, but I did not see him My friend had an excellent time, and even got one of Scott's finger picks
  13. I love Being There on vinyl. Bought it at a show, and spent way too much at the merch table. I got an "Apple Label" pressing of "Abbey Road" For Christmas my Nana gave me a copy of one of the early Beatles records called "Something New"- it's a Capital pressing in mono (that's the weird part), and another record that I can't recall the name of, but the vinyl inside was actually a stereo copy of the "Something New" record... weird, but still cool. I love vinyl. Sort of want a better turntable though, mine has pretty bad sound.
  14. Interesting, I wonder if the numbers for "Abbey Road" are based on the new re-press version if they also include used sales of the record from previous pressings (I just bought a used copy a few weeks ago)
  15. they both play lots of instruments but that's as far as it goes i think.
  16. 2011 was a better year for shows for me, mostly because all the bands I like to see live actually toured in the southeast a LOT! I got to see Old 97's 5 times over a 7 month period, including an awesome 2 night stand at Mercy Lounge in Nashville in July (almost didn't get to go because a week prior I was diagnosed with mono after being sick for 2 weeks. the doctor let me go only requesting that I sit down the entire show, the best part was the band was cool enough to let me sleep backstage before night 2, definitely one I will remember for a long long time). Saw Wilco 3 times in a 5 day s
  17. It's that one I posted about a while ago (we can't keep presents secret in my family). It's a gatefold double LP of "Still Feel Gone" and "March 16-20" on colored vinyl... my color turned out to be grey with swirls of green (way cool!)
  18. I don't know if this counts, but you know those owl guitar straps Jeff has? My sister gave me a wristband with the same pattern in a kind of purple and orange color scheme. It's really awesome! Also, Matthew gave me a really rare Uncle Tupelo record and promo kit with an amazing poster promoting "March 16-20" and a 7" and the original Rockville CD's. All unopened. That blew my away. He also got me the "Speak Into the Rose" 10" I bought myself the vinyl road case thing, and a scarf with money my mom gave me.
  19. Wow! So some anonymous donor gave my friend Avett tickets!! I am so excited for her. Things like this make me proud of fan communities.
  20. "You Can't Kill the Rooster" had me in almost tears at work today!
  21. When they all jump together on "I Must Be High" I gasped. Rock music is awesome.
  22. I am about to finish "Me Talk Pretty One Day" I really enjoyed it. Sedaris is a very interesting character for sure
