jonbama
I went to app state for undergrad and alabama for law school and the only thing that could have possibly made yesterday any better would have been for k state to top auburn. still, i look forward to this season for both of my teams. go 'neers and roll tide
the carlos
That ASU game worked out nicely.
sureshot
Well, we got our asses handed to us at Soldier Field yesterday. But I still got chills seeing NIU run onto the field.... Oh yea, I no longer like the color yellow.
bobbob1313
Wow. 59-0. I mean, ok Penn State-FIU, it's bound to be a blowout. But man, 59-0... Oh well, we played in front of, apparently, the largest crowd in college football history, so thats cool.

IATTBYB
Three days later and I still can't believe what happened Saturday in AA. Michigan has not won a football game since Bo died. This is going to be a long season. I suspect that every team on Michigan's schedule is working on the spread offense by now.
quarter23cd
You know, I normally take delight in all of Michigan's failings, but its almost too early in the season for schadenfreude. Or maybe it isn't. OSU's game was kind of a yawner (which is nice, b/c I was actually somewhat nervous about an App State type scenario playing out here). Boeckman looked better than anticipated at QB, but the O-line has me nervous. The running game, which is supposed to be this team's anchor, got consistently stuffed all day long by YSU. That doesn't bode well for the conference schedule. Looking around the conference, maybe we need to keep our eyes on Penn St this year. I know it was only FIU, but at least one team in the Big Ten came out firing on all cylendars.

OOO
I don't think my team deserves such an overwhelming amount of 1st place votes, as I'm not convinced we are THAT good. I mean we're really good, but I'm not confident we're that much stronger than some of the other teams. Only time will tell.

I mean we're really good, but I'm not confident we're that much stronger than some of the other teams. Only time will tell. USC seems to almost always win, but never really dominate too much. Beating Idaho is no great feat--App State would have destroyed Idaho. But anyway, as long as that gray haired coach is still at USC they will probably be consistent winners. BSU at 20th? Come on... They're considerably better this year than last year. The head case quarterback is gone.

quarter23cd
Michigan's loss to App St looks bad on paper only b/c of the I-AA label, but hey, at least it was the 2x defending national champs. Think of it this way: at worst, it is equivalent to a mid-tier Big Ten team. Michigan fans, just close your eyes and pretend it was Minnesota, if that helps. On the bright side, you've got ND and a Directional-Michigan school coming up on the schedule. If UM can get past Oregon, they should be back in the rankings pretty quickly. cryptique
I was looking at Notre Dame's schedule, and while I expect they'll eke out a win or two in there somewhere, it's entirely possible that they could lose their first eight games. Then maybe people would forget the Michigan debacle a little bit.

It wasn't just the loss to App St that stung. The fact that Sparty, who is now coached by the anti-John L., was the only reason the State of Michigan did not go 0-fer in Division 1-A games is embarassing. The only saving grace was the fact that ND lost as well.

squarewave
I am starting a quest to attend a game at every Big 10 stadium over the next few years. Since the finances are not as robust this year, I am shooting for the low-hanging fruit. First game:Northwestern vs. Nevada at Ryan Field Not a conference game, but we will make that the rule for the second go 'round. Why do I call this "low hanging fruit"???The per ticket cost for row 26 on the visitor's sideline at @ 30 yd line, $12 on Stub Hub Wish me luck!Rick. (oh, GO BADGERS!!!) quarter23cd
I am starting a quest to attend a game at every Big 10 stadium over the next few years.Enjoy. Maybe I should travel and catch some low-hanging fruit, myself. The OSU Alumni Assn politely informed me recently that my ticket application for the Wisconsin game was denied due to overwhelming demand. Its not unusual to get bumped to a crappier game, but I think this is the first time I got shut out altogether for the season. Guess I don't donate enough $.
PigSooie
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?i...ce=NCFHeadlines JONESBORO, Ark. -- Arkansas State coach Steve Roberts says he was told by the Big 12 Conference's supervisor of football officials that game officials wrongly overturned ASU's recovery of an onside kick in the final minute of the No. 7 Longhorns 21-13 victory on Saturday. "We got a confirmation [Tuesday] that they missed the call," Roberts said. The Indians were flagged with 56 seconds left in the game for an improper formation. Texas recovered a subsequent onside kick attempt and ran out the clock. Roberts said the game film showed the Indians had enough players on both sides of the ball before the kick. "There's nothing you can do about it now," Roberts said. "I don't have a reaction because a reaction's worthless." The Big 12 Conference said officials coordinator Walt Anderson was not immediately available for comment Wednesday. Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press

At least the Walt Anderson acknowledged the 'error'. Texas is overrated. However, at least they don't have guys in convict clothes (all white) and storm troopers on the sideline (said with love from an Aggie).
