In the next year, there are going to be numerous U.S. political issues which are legitimately worthy of their own thread, and we can't expect people to consolidate everything into one discussion. Also, a designated "political" thread is only of any value if it's strictly kept to politics, but considering VC's track record we can only assume that any single political thread would be rolled off topic pretty quickly. Threads on substantially similar topics will be merged as necessary. We're hoping that people will keep politics in threads started for that type of discussion, and try to remain civil to each other in all threads. It's going to be a bumpy year!
