Analogman
>Bob Weir interviewed in Motor Trend Magazine Thanks for the link. Of the myriad Dead articles I've read over the years, that certainly offered a different take, aside from Cassidy being able to see around corners while driving. I sometimes wonder what he would have thought of Heart Beat (1980).

Lammycat
^ I remember the sun broke and the rain stopped just as "Dancin'" kicked things off... ed. BTW, it was 20 years ago today that the GD played the first of two fantastic shows in Oxford Maine at some racetrack. Little Feat opened. Very mellow scene and some nice sets both nights. Ah, the gool ol' days....

mountain bed
Aman - how far are you from Merriweather Post? That would be a great evening to be sure. I once saw a ABB/P&F double bill (6/29/02) and it was one of the most awesome displays of stamina I've ever seen by Mr. Warren Haynes. First, he did about 75 minutes with the Mule, then 2 solid hours with the ABB, and finished off with a long (2 1/2 hour) set with Phil. Close to 6 hours onstage in grueling heat and the dude wore a long sleeved black shirt the entire time. Amazing.
Analogman
A few hours I think. That is where we saw Wilco a few summers ago. Do you want to try and plan to go?
quarter23cd
Phil and the Bros at Merriweather sounds fantastic. I might have to go visit my parents that week so I can be in town for this. I spent so many great nights out on the lawn at Merriweather as a teenager. Easily my favorite outdoor venue (that I've been to), if nothing else just for the ambiance of walking through the woods from the parking lot to get to the venue. Good times. Lammycat
Did he play Soulshine with all three bands that night? Up at Red Rocks a few years ago Warren came into one of the parking lots and played for about 30-40 min. on a makeshift stage for a very small crowd of us who happened to be hanging out right there, then played a solo set to open the show, then played the 2 1/2-3 hr. P&F's show. Don't know if he played in the parking lot afterwards or not....

mfwahl
It was at Deer Creek* in Indiana. * I refuse to call it Verizon Wireless Stay strong! I think I saw shows at Saratoga, NY; Long island, NY; Camden, NJ; and somewhere else in NJ. They mixed up the line up each night between Warren Haynes solo, Willie Nelson, ABB, Black Crowes maybe too. I like Phil & friends line up at the time. Haven't seen his newer group. mountain bed
30 years ago today: 7/8/78 - Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison CO I: Bertha > Good Lovin', Dire Wolf, El Paso, Roses, Minglewood, Ramble On, Promised, Deal II: Samson, Ship of Fools, Estimated > Other One > Eyes > Drums > Space > Wharf Rat > Franklin's > Sugar Mag E: Terrapin > Sat. Nite, Werewolves First run at Red Rocks ( this was night #2). The second set is where it's at here - the Estimated > O1 > Eyes is quite good. Donna joins the band for some strange warblings (ala Ono) during the brief Space. The best part for me is at the end of Wharf Rat where JG decides it's time for a Franklin's and just RUNS with it - a stellar version! The triple encore is icing on the cake. mountain bed
Soldier Field, 13 years ago today - the last show. Honestly, I'm glad I wasn't there. It was nice Phil stepped up and delivered the final tune - Box Of Rain. "Such a long long time to be gone, and a short time to be there." Strange that I got the new Road Trips today in the mail. Looking forward to digging into this one.

quarter23cd
what was the story with box of rain -- phil suspected it was the last show because of jerry's condition and he didn't want the whole thing to end on a lifeless black muddy river?I've never listened to that show and don't know if I ever will. Seems like the kind of thing that would be nice to have a copy of just for historical purposes, but I just can't listen to it. Its a shame if the "Black Muddy River" was lifeless, cuz that would have been a fitting end, otherwise, too. But "Box of Rain" is a pretty inspired choice. It's arguably my favorite song in the world, although I don't know that I've ever heard a live version that I like very much. (sorry, Phil) Still, the sentiment of that song......yeah, it just feels like the right way to end. At the Ratdog show I went to last summer, it was in late-July so it was coming up on the anniversaries of Jerry's birth/death and there was a solemn late-show "He's Gone" followed up with a "Black Muddy River" encore and there was a dude sitting on the ground nearby me who was just bawling and completely losing it. Part of me was thinking "Dude, get a grip"...the other part was like "Yeah, man, I know."
