allgodsmoney
Ha! That must have been a fun moment. Obviously I only joined in Aug of 07. My first Wilco show was in '95, but I was oblivous to a fan board for a very long time. I'm glad I finally joined because I've met some very kind VCers at shows since then. I joined with her! Love that girl!
Mrs. Peel
I don't know the American Chopper guy! But I do remember that entire road trip as a series of "we got lost!" stories from the kidsmokes and jimtweedy. Did they find your place OK? I think they did. What's funny is I never actually saw them at my house. They drove up separately and were maybe a 1/2 hour behind us. I was so tired I went right to bed and Mr. Peel stayed up to wait for them. We both had to work the next day, so I left before they got up. We met back up at the Irving Plaza show that night.
mountain bed
whoever had their wife as their avatar, and yes, I used to be aricandover.I'm pretty sure that was Mr. H. And weren't you also Pervert McMurderman for a minute? I kinda liked that name.

I kinda liked that name. for some reason I thought Mr. H. always had Frank Zappa as his avatar or is that someone else? I have avatars and sigs turned off, so people at work don't notcie what's on my screen. and yes, I was also Pervert McMurderman. I can't wait til it's time to change my name again. kidsmoke
I don't know the American Chopper guy! But I do remember that entire road trip as a series of "we got lost!" stories from the kidsmokes and jimtweedy. Did they find your place OK? Man, I was so sick on that trip that I shouldn't have even been there....started out with only a mild cough, but when I get bronchitis, I get it, like, instantly. When I came home after the 4 shows I had fullblown pneumonia! Oddly enough, in spite of that those 4 shows are some of my very fondest memories.....terrific concerts, and surrounded by great friends. I only wish I'd been well so I could've enjoyed it more, but it still ranks as one of my favorite outings. Brennan had an absolute blast. But yes....we spent much of the trip lost, thanks to our carefully printed out maps from the internet that we had prepared ourselves with, well in advance of the trip. We used a respected site, whose maps had always served us well in southern CA.....wish I could remember who it was so I could advise you against them! Anyway, we found out the hard way that the maps were wildly inaccurate and often indecipherable on the east coast....we might as well been operating from a map of Portugal. Each day we did manage to eventually get where we were going, but thank God we built in tons of get-lost time by leaving early every day. I'm sure it didn't help that I was feverish & coughing and really didn't have my wits about me. (Well, do I ever?) Jen, I seem to remember finding your place fairly easily....maybe it's just the mists of hallucination....and oh, what a beacon of coziness and purring cats it was! It was so good to be welcomed in by Al, and shown to our comfy alcove room. Where I then sat up hand-sewing the main zipper on our big checked bag, which Brennan had broken in a surge of youthful 13-yr-old overly-enthusiastic zipper closing .....it was that or I knew we'd have a serious baggage explosion going home! I remember how soft that bed felt when I finally crashed. I thank you all over again for the excellent lodging! When we got home, I sent Jeremy (jimtweedy, with whom we'd roadtripped) a thank-you gift package which included a great big, exhaustive Rand McNally Road Atlas.....next road trip, we will know where we are, at least part of the time! Oh, and to get back on topic, I discovered Via Chicago in March of 2002 & joined after briefly lurking & being charmed and frightened by its members (stardog in particular ). My join date was sometime in April '02.
insideoutoflove
i joined in march of 05, after the vic solo shows (my first jeff tweedy/wilco shows!)...though i lurked for awhile before that on my friend mike's username as kaysettes. he introduced me to the board...we were in the same biology class sophomore year of high school and had a joke of a teacher. pretty much every lab day we'd plop down in front of the computer and peruse the board. he told me in one of those classes when he first showed me VC that i could use his name to log on, and then once i started being on it all the time and posting, he told me to bugger off and get my own anyway, he also gave me my original name: casinoqueen. i converted to insideoutoflove semi-recently.. goodness, has it really been 3 years? everyone i joined the board with have seem to have fizzled out and dont check VC anymore...however, i am a master procrastinator, and have had VC on my bookmarks bar for as long as i can remember. though i dont post too much im definitely on here many times a day.. Dr. Steve Brule
I have no idea when I originally joined. My first big meeting of VCers IRL was the Loose Fur shows in Brooklyn in December 2002. Soozanne and I went together and met the wilcas, pneyu and bbop for the first time. It wasn't until our hesitant trip to a bar after the show that we realized we were all on VC. I remeber thinking how nice Paul was for paying the majority of our tab and being shocked Uyen was not a guy. Things haven t changed much. Well, I'm more at ease with Uyen being a lady. Back then you'd wait days for a response to a thread. on a good day their 'd be 3 people online And I felt so bad about that, Drew! We'd stopped to pay respects at the WTC site, that night, and didn't realize how long the drive to your place was. Ah, but it was another excellent hotel, with first-rate staff who wait up for you! We need to try this again under less frantic circumstances....besides, I have yet to meet the Lukester! Someday, someday soon, I hope. and you'd have to walk uphill, barefoot in the snow to get to the threads? Yep, both directions, and as Drew will tell you, we had to carry baked potatoes in our pockets to keep our hands from freezing on the way! It's true! And some days we had no baked potatoes so we had to carry baked rocks. You kids today have it so easy. As my dad likes to say, "Who'da ever thought a potato would be a snack?" He's still a bit surprised at potato chips.
LouisvilleGreg
I lurked going back to mid 2003 or so and was finally convinced to join by Heidi, Brianne, Dreamin' and others outside of a couple of shows at the 9:30 Club a few years back now. They said I would be instantly addicted, they were wrong, it took a little longer, but now I am definitely addicted. I check VC in the morning before my personal email or sports scores. I've lurked Springsteen and MMJ sites for years as well. I must've made a dozen or more new VC friends last week in Chiacago and damn if I don't miss everyone of you. cwnorman
Sept 16, 2003. I was trying to get info on the Auditorium shows and when I couldn't make it I found this place and Donna hooked me up with the shows. To this day, the only message board I believe I have ever joined, and I try to check it every day. Have laughed harder, been exposed to more differing opinions, and been turned on to more good music than I could have ever dreamed of. During Hurricane Katrina, there were a lot of people on here that offered there thoughts and support, and that will forever endear Via Chicago to me. It was a different and smaller community 5 years ago, but it has been a fun watching it evolve, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. No matter what, this place has most certainly increased my quality of life. Thanks. PS...I so wish I had given my screen name just a little bit of thought before that first time I signed on. Obviously, my first message board.
