Recommended Posts

Tonight was amazing. We were in the front row. They played my request. I got Nels's set list. I'm too tired to write in more complex sentences.

Here's the set list:

Sunken Treasure

You Are My Face

Hummingbird

Ashes of American Flags

Company In My Back

Handshake Drugs

Pot Kettle Black

Shot In the Arm

On and On and On

Misunderstood

Far Far Away

Impossible Germany

New Madrid (requested by Jeff's dad)

Jesus, Etc.

California Stars

Walken

I'm the Man Who Loves You

Heavy Metal Drummer

Spiders

Hate It Here

Kingpin

Passenger Side (dedicated to all the people Jeff's dad brought with him to the show--"There must be, what, like 50 of you?")

Red-Eyed and Blue-->I Got You

Casino Queen

Outtasite Outtamind

The set list shows three encores, with Cars Can't Escape starting the first one.

We took a bunch of pictures, which I'm uploading now. More from Venus and me tomorrow!

What time did they come on stage?

How was the opener?

Thanks for the info!

We got inside at about 7:15 (very short line to get in) and found a great place to stand right behind the tapers (in front of the soundboard). Retribution Gospel Choir came on at about 8 and played until about 8:45. They were enjoyable and seemed to get a good response. Wilco came on at about 9 and played until 11:30.

Oh man, good setlist.

I'll be there Saturday and I'm excited. My high school graduation is at 1, I have a graduation open house directly after that, and then I'm leaving to head down to the Loop around 6. Crazy day.

It was a great one! I love the energy at the St. Louis show.

My only complaint: it seemed like a lot of people decided it was chit-chat time during "On and On and On". While I know the song's not exactly meant to rock our punk asses, I was thoroughly irritated. That song was written for Jeff's dad after his mother's death, and this was the first time it was played in St. Louis since his mother passed. I really wanted to tell the yakkers to have some respect and shut the fuck up, but I didn't want to add to it.

He did mention later in the show that he was missing his mom, and this was the first time they'd played St. Louis without her.

Otherwise, it was a great crowd, a great performance, and a hell of a lot of fun. Really looking forward to the next two shows! :thumbup

Now we know who to complain to if the recordings have a lot of yapping :lol

i was up until 6:30 a.m. the night before because Radiohead was in town, and needed a red bull AND a large coffee to stay awake! so i wasn't exactly all coherent, haha. i'll go fix it. thanks for not crucifying me. that was a total brain fart.

and "kingpin" was in the first encore as well, confirmed? someone posted on our blog that it was, donl't want to spread misinformation....

That was me! I know they played Kingpin, but I now believe I'm a Wheel was also in the 1st encore (contrary to my comment on your blog post). So, I'm a Wheel probably needs to be inserted in the setlist at the top of this thread.

See my earlier comment: "Despite the drunken chorus standing behind me, ..." A very drunk woman was behind/beside me who was trying to sing every lyric, but would flub them or be off on the timing. She wouldn't sing during the quieter songs, she would yap like Yorkshire Terrier. There was also a guy(s) behind me that sang every lyric, but at least he knew them!

My wife got into it with some quiet-song yappers at the St. Louis - Fox show a few years ago. They apologized later, informing us that they were some of Tweedy's relatives and hadn't seen each other in a while.

I'm not sure why, but this made me laugh pretty hard.

You all have a great time these next two nights!

This isn't really true, seeing as the song was played several times before his mother's death. Your point is still valid, though and it doesn't make it any less disrespectful.
