I was ready for Dungy to go. No doubt he's a good guy.

I don't understand putting someone who has a horrible head coaching record in his place though. Looks like another couple more wasted Peyton years while this experiment plays out. I was hoping for Capn Comeback Jimmy Hardballs.

Vibes, bjorn. My partner in (baseball) crime.

Thanks. I am OK. The Giants did not peak at the end, but they beat every team currently in the playoffs at some point this season, some like the proverbial rented mule. Congratulations to the Eagles and their fans - this might be a banner sports year for Philly. If the Giants can get Burress or some reasonable facsimile and Umenyiora comes back strong, some ass will be kicked next season.

Sources: Pioli to join Chiefs

ESPN.com news services

New England Patriots vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli has agreed to become head of football operations for the Kansas City Chiefs, two NFL sources told ESPN's Michael Smith.

Pioli was seen packing up his office Tuesday afternoon, a Patriots source said.

The decision to hire Pioli likely means Herman Edwards will not be back as Chiefs head coach next season. Among the top candidates to succeed Edwards is New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio will replace Pioli as vice president of player personnel, league sources told ESPN.

Pioli, 43, has been with the Patriots for nine years.

Pioli should find a warm welcome in Kansas City. At the last Chiefs home game, shortly after the embattled Carl Peterson resigned after 20 years as president, general manager and CEO, several signs were spotted in the crowd proclaiming, "We want Pioli."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Now the Giants fans have an inkling of what the Cowboy's fans went through last year. Number one seed, home field advantage throught the playoffs...bounced unceremoniously in the first round. Star Quarterback failing.

At least you guys have a ring from last year.

The Detroit Lions have reached an agreement in principle with Jim Schwartz to become their next head coach.

Schwartz, the Tennessee Titans' defensive coordinator for the past eight seasons, has agreed in principle to a four-year contract, sources told ESPN.

The Lions will hold an introductory news conference for Schwartz on Friday.

"After an extensive search that included several highly qualified coaches, we are thrilled that Jim Schwartz will become our team's head coach," Lions president Tom Lewand said in a statement Thursday. "Martin [Mayhew, Lions general manager) and I believe that Jim's qualifications and vision will lead this organization on the field toward our goal of becoming a championship football team."

On Tuesday, after a second interview with the Lions, Schwartz said the chance to coach the NFL's first 0-16 team motivated him to embrace the opportunity if it came his way.

"I don't shy away from a challenge," he said earlier this week.

The Lions fired Rod Marinelli after his team made history. Schwartz just finished his 10th season with the Titans.

Before being hired in Tennessee, Schwartz spent three years on the Baltimore Ravens' staff. He also was a college and pro scout for the Cleveland Browns and that experience might be valuable in Detroit.

The Lions have the No. 1 pick in April, along with first- and third-round picks from the Dallas Cowboys, and need to find players to spark a turnaround.

Among other things, the Lions will be counting on Schwartz to come up with ways to improve a defense that ranked last in the league and gave up 517 points -- threatening the NFL record for points allowed (533) in a season set by the 1981 Baltimore Colts.

ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen, ESPN NFL reporter Michael Smith and The Associated Press contributed to this story.

Yay? ... maybe? Seems like a smart guy. Titans D has been good, right?

titans have a very good defense, and he is a great coach (imo).

not sure how this will help the lions inept offense. did they also get a new o.c.? (and rb and qb and line)

One day at a time...

They will be getting a new o.c., yes.

Their rookie RB showed promise.

QB and line will be addressed in the draft. (Hello, Stafford).

They'll still suck, but I'm putting the over/under at 5 wins.

For 22 seasons, longer than the tenure of Franco Harris, Terry Bradshaw or any of the other Steelers icons, Rydze, 58, paced the Pittsburgh sideline as part of the medical team. Then suddenly, in the summer of 2007, like a free-agent rookie signed as training camp fodder, the bespectacled internal medicine specialist quietly parted ways with the Steelers.

The details are sketchy, but his split with the team came approximately four months after news reports identified him as the buyer of a substantial quantity of human growth hormone (HGH) from a Florida pharmacy during several months in 2006. HGH, a performance enhancer banned by the NFL and other major sports leagues, is the supplement of choice for some athletes because it can't be detected by current testing.

Arguably, Gruden only won the Super Bowl because of the pieces Dungy left, but I think firing Gruden is weak. He's been solid. Too much overturn in the NFL right now.

he has not won a playoff game since his super bowl season and has not developed one qb despite a reputation for doing so before joining tampa.

i love gruden but he needed to go.

Is the Cardinals making the Super Bowl referenced by Nostradamus or Cayce as a sign of Armagideon time?
