Favorite movie scenes...

Recommended Posts

Thought this might be a fun idea for a thread...

For me, one of them is the scene is in High Fidelity where Laura picks up Rob in the rain, and Dylan's "Most Of The Time" is playing.....gets me every time.

Or, the scene in Shawshank Redemption where Red is walking up the beach at the end of the movie.

Your Dylan reference reminds me of one of my favorite movies and one of my favorite scenes from said movie: Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid when the old man gets shot and his wife comes out to comfort him as "Knockin' On Heavens Door" plays. Great scene, great movie, great performances by Kristofferson, Coburn, and Dylan, and great soundtrack.

The car wash scene in "Cool Hand Luke" and for more Paul Newman, the scene where they put the cattle down in "Hud."

The Puttin' on the Ritz bit in "Young Frankenstein!"

and this one from Delicatessen cracks me up every time.

I've got a million of them.

And then she straddles him in the car if I remember right. Yep, great scene.

The final big scene in Scent Of A Woman is memorable (at the private school's kangaroo court), and I don't think Al Pacino's done anything that good since. The frogs scene in Magnolia was a motherfucker.

Still, these are a bit over the top.

I'll try to think of more. Movies with one great scene tend to need that scene to compensate for something else. For me anyway, a movie's greatness comes from it's overall flow, cohesion, and other elements. (like great acting, cinematography, or a story that pulls you in deeper)

The campfire scene from Blazing Saddles.

The Blutto/D-Day/Flounder taking the horse to Dean Wormer's office and the inevitable consequence.

The revelation/realization scene in which we learn who is Kaiser Soze.

Dinner at Louis in the Godfather. Hell every scene in Godfather and Godfather2.

Good movie. Dylan is a turrible actor, but it is fun to see him.

Mine is Josey Wales, "...buzzards gotta eat, same as worms." After Clint shoots a douchebag in the forehead and spit chaw juice on him.

or... Wooderson walking into the Emporium with the Hurricane escort.

I knew there was something about you I liked.......and this is it!!!!

Agree w/ all of these. Once when my kids were about 6-8 months old, we were doing a 2 am feeding. When we started to put them back down they both started "tooting" with great frequency. My wife and I started laughing and talking about Blazing Saddles.

On another note, another favorite scene of mine is the opening sequence of Royal Tenenbaums. In 5-10 minutes all the characters are developed, the setting is made beautifully clear, and the mood of the movie is perfectly established. Plus, kids who grew up watching Thomas the Tank Engine will recognize Alec Baldwin's narration.

This one is still my favorite from that film:

"Oh, really. I happen to have Marshall McLuhan right here."

Sorry, I have this thing for Loretta Lynn :shy

Top ten :yes

My all time favorite scene has to be when Jules and Vincent are cleaning up the bloody car in Pulp Fiction.

others:

Mulholland Drive - When Diane disappears and Rita is sucked into the Blue Box.

Taxi Driver - DeNiro shoots Harvey Keitel and the bloodbath ensues.

Monster's Ball - Halle Berry.....well, you know.

The scene in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest where MacMurphy is acting like he's watching the World Series and gets all the other guys to cheer along. The whole movie is pretty brilliant, but that one stands out.

I love Pulp Fiction and The Big Lebowski so much that I have a hard time picking single favorite scenes from either of them.

Oh yeah. If I were to list my 20 favorite scenes ever probably 15 of 'em would involve Nicholson.
