Party @ the Moontower
Yes, we did. And yes there were a few, along with some Asian faces. But not like the dems. And I don't think its an illusion. Here is a random picture of the Dem convention (google images) Here is one of the GOP -- from the GOP convention web site since I couldn't find one posted elsewhere. I know its not scientific, but its all I got. EDIT: Delegates are chosen (literally selected by the party) long before candidates are. So the fact that the democrats seem to more completely represent the population is what it is -- nothing to do with Obama. It's refreshing to see the young faces. The republican party for the most part seems old. The green party young, and the independant & Libertarians a nice mix.

mountain bed
I thought mccain did pretty well considering the hand he was deallt.I agree. And when I think of all the candidates that were running on the Republican side in January we sure could have done much much worse than McCain (getting the nomination). It's really too bad that he isn't the '00 McCain anymore. One thing I found really strange was the talk (tonight especially) about reforming Washington. Did everyone there forget that it was a Republican Administration/Congress that got us into the current situation? McCain addressed this briefly, saying. "we lost our way and let Washington change us" - the only time in 4 days that I recall anyone mentioning that there might be some accountability involved with the Republicans' control of the last 8 years. That's when I felt that the torch had been passed - it's McCain's party now, and he knows it. He can say what he wants to some degree, and actually could remodel the party if he has his shit together and doesn't get sucked into the undertow of the neocons and such. OOO
This is silly news, but Heart sends cease and desist to Republicans for using "Barracuda" "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. John Smith
The democrats have been given a golden opportunity by the republicans. The Republicans keep talking about the need to change washington, so the democrats need to use those quotes and highlight the fact that the republicans have controlled the town for so long. Heck they might as well even highlight the partisaship and show how the republicans broke off from the capital hill softball league to form their own league.
Central Scrutinizer
It is very important to democrats to be seen as the party of the black people. Republicans don't care about black people! Edie have you been looking for Hispanic faces? They re the largest minority in our country and they don't vote in lockstep with the democratic party. I know it doesn't fit in with your goal, but it doesn't invalidate the point.bobbob, correct me if I'm off base, but isn't the Hispanic vote factioned anyway -- due to prejudices and histories of each country and how they respond to one another, as well as the United States? Mexicans, for instance, were a strong base for Bush, which other Latin countries are more liberal?

Winston Legthigh
I saw none @ the RNC. You have a point though, some Americans continue to work for the Black minorities exclusively. Hispanics remain the largest minority group at 44.3 million, but somehow overlooked by our politicians. White folks like me are dropping in #'s. We seem to be aging but not producing as many babies. This will certainly change politics in our childrens future.I'm bored with the black-white racial dynamics, and nothing else. Some hispanics ARE white folks like you.

Analogman
Um, (embarrassed that I don't know this), what is it about? Ann Wilson revealed in interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards Mushroom Records attempted publicity stunt involving sisters Ann and Nancy and a made up lesbian affair. The song particularly focuses on Ann's rage towards a fan who came up to her after a concert asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her then boyfriend, band member Michael Fisher. After he revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy Wilson, Ann became angry and went back to her hotel room to write the song.

So the fact that the democrats seem to more completely represent the population is what it is -- nothing to do with Obama. Not exactly true, as some delegates choose to represent a certain candidate beforehand and thus which ones attend depends somewhat on who wins the primaries.
