there were two tapers @ the soundbooth

My girlfriend Kathy, Heather and Russ from Maryland, Courtney and Billy from Chicago along with a buddy Matt from Denver survided a torrential downpoor / flash flood to hold our "third group" in line - spot @ the North entrance. We ended up in the 2nd row (first after handicap). The sound was incredible. The band was so tight. Everyone had their "rock star" moments. From Jeff during Hummingbird to Glenn's pose, John pogo-ing a good portion of the show and of course Pat. Nels was "epic". Mikael was strong in the mix. The entire band was all smiles all night totally feeding off the audience that was on their feet from the beginning. Flying back to Indy in a few hours and will update more as I settle down and remember.

That must have been amazing, what a set!

I nearly planned on this show and now regret it...oh well. I have two shows coming up soon. Just have to be patient.

I saw that storm blowing thru Denver on the weather channel and was wondering if/how it affected the show.

Thanks for the update!

Great Summary of the show! I was in row 10 and agree, the sound was great. People were on their feet the whole concert. What a great show.

It's funny, the weather was looking just grim at first but it was absolutely perfect weather for the entire show.

I'm a Wheel was also played after Hoodoo Voodoo to close out this spectacular set.

This was my first show on the tour and a damn good one at that. Jeff was very aggressive and loving the audience. A few things I noticed. The breeze began blowing during Bull Black which sent shivers down my spine. The solo on Ashes was considered "epic" from Jeff which I assume you were referring to already. On Hummingbird Jeff was doing the typical jogging and mic twirl. He began extending the slack on the twirl so much at the end he tried to catch it and dropped it straight at the end of the song. It was really funny as he said darn and shot the crowd a goofy smile. Jeff commented on the "pungent odor" coming from the crowd. Jeff's kids were jamming with Kotche for a couple of songs towards the end. Man it was a great evening.

Another funny thing I noticed was a group of kids in front of me who had brought in what appeared to be a giant bamboo walking stick but when the kids sat down they inserted a slide and water into it. It was a walking-stick-bong. I guess that's the Rado for ya. =) Just waking up still sure there will be more to post later.

This was my fifth Wilco show and it had to be a contender for best ever. My girlfriend and I had GA tickets and after getting super bad vibes from a neurotic dude who was not ok with us sitting next to and only partially on the tarp he was using to save twenty seats we ended up finding a seat in row five. It sounded amazing and we could see everybody. I feel like these guys have figured out how to fill an amphitheater like Red Rocks with energy. Definitely beat their last time at RR.

Jeff seemed super relaxed, he didn't even get irritated or wag a finger when someone chucked a glow stick on stage and almost hit Nels. He said it was the best crowd ever.

The other thing that made the show so special was the set. The first six songs of the set list were as if I had written it myself. Everytime they would finish a song, my girlfriend and I would look at each other like, "Damn that was amazing!" and then I would look up and see an almost full moon.

I was totally happy with the show when it came time for an encore and I figured 'Ok, here come the bar rockers. We'll get Monday and Casino Queen like every other show I've ever seen them play.' Which would have felt a little monotonous but I was already satisfied with the main set. Then boom: Ashes, Misunderstood. I thought that Hoodoo Voodoo and I'm a Wheel were perfect alternatives to their usual rock out ending.

Good summary of an excellent show. I was center stage, just a few rows behind the sound board and it was truly an "epic" night. I've never seen Jeff having so much fun. They are truly in their element these days as a band with a tight sound and great chemistry on stage. It was a pure joy to watch Nels all night. He was just spectacular. Loved the new songs, particularly "One Wing," which is quickly becoming my favorite. The crowd was into it all night as mentioned earlier. I ended up standing the entire show as did everyone around me. There was plenty of "pungent odor," as Jeff said, all around me, but for the most part everyone was singing and dancing in their happy space. Well worth the trip in from Texas, and what a night under the open sky. No rain for the entire show and a great cool breeze blowing through. Couldn't have asked for much more. Woke up early this morning and made the two hour drive west to the mountains where I am currently sitting on the deck of a rented condo and watching the Eagle Rive flow by. Great start to a week's vacation, and I'll have those magical two-and-a-half hours ringing in my head all week long!

An awesome venue, a beautiful night, a GREAT crowd, and an equally awesome setlist. Thank you Jeff for adding I'm A Wheel to the setlist. A request from Ruby and Miles :)

I love Red Rocks and I love Wilco even more.

first time poster. This was my third opportunity to see the band live. There is nothing else quite like seeing a show at red rocks, except parking. missed most of Okkervil River set. The scene was great. lightning in the eastern sky, a nearly full moon, perfect temperature. 35 rows back which was too far away for my old eyes.

Before the show i was a bit anxious as to how the band energy would be with all that is going on, especially surrounding the passing of Jay Bennett, new album, new songs to sell, etc. We all picked Wilco (the song) as the opener and this will probably be a staple opener for them, which in some ways is too bad. Sunken Treasure at the Denver fillmore for the show i went to last year was unbelievable. The sound volume seemed a little weak for the first two or three songs and there were some calls to turn it up from the crowd. It was a bit hard to decipher the response from the crowd on the new songs. It will be interesting to see if Bull Black Nova ends up being a concert favorite. It is potentially a great live song, but last night it wasn't loud enough. I thought the concert got rolling with A Shot in the Arm and from there it took off. Highlights for me were Can't Stand It, Shouldn't Be Ashamed, (thanks Ditto) Pat and Nels really going after it on HooDoo VooDoo, Pat's stage presence in particular, Jeff's stellar singing and guitar work, Nels was indeed "epic" on Ashes. Lowlights were Everlasting Everything (this album's What Light) We'll see how long it takes for this song to be removed from the set list. California Stars with Okkervill was pretty punchless. Does anyone else think that the more uptempo version of Stars that the band did on Letterman several years ago was the best? I would have liked to have heard Jeff share a bit more and was sad that Jay Bennett wasn't acknowledged because his impact on the band and the music was far reaching.

Other than the fact that I would have loved to have had Red Eyed and Blue/I Got you on the set list it was a great show that went way too fast.

I hope the album does well. I can't say that have fallen in love with it, but will keep listening. Thanks for the chance to post!

My wife and I made the trip from Kansas City, MO for this one, our third Wilco concert altogether. I have to second everything that's been said here. Amazing setlist, so excited to hear "Can't Stand It" and "Shouldn't Be Ashamed," which ROCKS in this lineup. California Stars was great, although it seemed like the guys from Okervill River didn't know all the words...just stepped up to the mic to say "california stars." Nels vs. Pat on "Hoodoo Voodoo" was epic - Pat should be given a little more room to solo - who knew he was so good!?

Anyone notice during "Jesus, Etc." during the lyric 'our love is all of God's money' there was a big flash of lightning in the distance? Awesome. Jeff had great dialogue w/the crowd, the overall energy was electric. Bad-ass show.

Bummed "Box Full of Letters" and "Casino Queen" didn't make it in, but I'll take "It's Just That Simple," which John nailed.

IN ALL - WILCO MELTED FACES!

I don't think you'll hear anything else from Jeff about Jay, to be honest.

He made a comment at the first show after Jay's death, and he's mentioned it in several interviews, but I don't think it will come up in concert anymore.

And I love Everlasting. I'm glad there's a chance they'll play it at Wolf Trap next week.

According to Wilcobase and my scorekeeping in the tourbook that's the full-band debut of "Everlasting Everything." It was also the tour premieres of "It's Just That Simple," and "Ashes of American Flags." It was only the second show this tour for "Shouldn't Be Ashamed." Good job on getting that in on request. Looks like quite the variety package.

How did Everlasting sound?

I thought it was amazing. Wilco is one of the few bands I can think of who can shut up a venue like Red Rocks long enough to play a downtempo song. (Or at least it seemed like everybody shut up -- I was in the fifth row on Nels's side.)

Then again, I like Everlasting, so your mileage may vary. :)

I think this may have been the best Wilco show I've ever seen, and it was my first Red Rocks show (I've been out in Denver for a year and a half now), so I'm thrilled to bits that it was both this band and this awesome. (Can't Stand It was my request, and I will admit to almost fainting when I heard the first notes...)

Correct re: "Everlasting Everything" and "It's Just That Simple," but not "Ashes of American Flags." The latter was played at the infamous Saratoga, CA (Mountain Winery) show, fwiw.

I'm confused now, when exactly was this Saratoga show? After LA? Was it a late addition?

aha, I see what the problem is with this Saratoga show. It's not in the tourbook setlist counter. I guess I'll have to add it in later.
