choo-choo-charlie
I was listening to Summerteeth through headphones the other day - for the first time in a while - and was really immersing myself in a lot of the little (and big) sonic details throughout the record. It reminded me of the first few times I ever heard the record and loved little bits and parts that really made all of Wilco's records stick out to me when I first discovered the band. I thought it might be fun for people to share some of their favorite little moments of Wilco tunes that grab(bed) them and love. For example: the drum fill that opens "I Must Be High"the short piano fill at the end of "Red-Eyed & Blue" that hints at the opening chords of "I Got You" (something I can never seem to nail on time when playing air piano in the car)the bells at the end of "ELT"the handheld mini-fans scraped across piano strings in "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart"the solo at the end of "Hell is Chrome" that starts with one guitar and then seems to split into multiple instruments at its endthe subtle swirling organs at the very beginning of "Impossible Germany"the third/high harmony note in the lyric/line "...that you need to know" before the chorus of "Wilco (The Song)" that doesn't appear until the end of the song There are more, a lot more, but maybe this gives an idea of the discussion I'm going for. Vacant Horizon
the short but amazing guitar solo in one wing before the final choruses.
Preferred B
The two extra percussion beats in the "Shake it Off" chorus. Believe it or not, they are a really big part of why I like that song.
bjorn_skurj
The piano lick at the beginning of "Handshake Drugs."
Excitable Boy
I love the static sounds throughout Radio Cure. The best use of static in a song ever IMO.
Moss
I love the way the drums come in on Handshake drugs.
pillowy star
The piano part in Via Chicago, and the way Jeff's voice cracks at the end of the song when he repeats "I'm coming home............."
IATTBYB
the way Jeff's voice cracks at the end of the song when he repeats "I'm coming home............." Absoulutely the very first thing I thought of when I opened this thread. Others that come to mind include- The clanking bottles in Casino Queen- The bass line in Handshake Drugs- Twittering birds in Summer Teeth- The transistion from Ashes to HMD on YHF

Excitable Boy
-Those bell sounding things in Someday Some Morning Sometime. -Jeff's coughing fit toward the end of Dreamer in My Dreams. Haha. I used to get that same cough all the time. Damn cigarettes.
choo-choo-charlie
-Those bell sounding things in Someday Some Morning Sometime. That's the "delayaphone," as referenced in Kot's book. It's a vibraphone filtered through some echo & delay effects. One of my favorite sounds too. I think Tweedy said that this sound and this song was a gateway to some ideas for YHF. theashtraysays
The avalanche in Via Chicago live. Glenn's drum explosion in ALTWYS. The little quiet transition / meandering part in Muzzle of Bees after the last "half is me" line, but before the guitars kick back in. The residency version with Andrew Bird is particularly beautiful. Pat's guitar line in the end of Bull Black Nova.

sonicshoulder
Who and what the fuck is that at the end of Candyfloss, I don't know either but I've always loved it.
The Inside of Outside
Like hazel, I am fond of Pieholden Suite, especially the moment when the horns kick in. When Nels' solo ends in Impossible Germany and the guitar parts come together and lift you up. The opening drums in Too Far Apart.
