Just when I was really bumed about not making Red Rocks ;^( I think I need to go to all of them, but Hartford and MassMoCA are a must, Cooperstown could be pretty cool too. It looks to me, with the exception of Hartford, that these could all be outdoor GA shows, anyone have any idea?
RaspberryJam
I think you are right, Bosco. I am interested in Newport as well, considering Blitzen Trapper is playing as well. And as long as it's not raining, Ommegang will not disappoint. I saw the Avetts there last year in a deluge and it was pretty miserable.
nalafej
i'm pretty stoked, but what's with the MoCa ticketing?! 500 tickets? they must not be holding it on the lawn... any idea what it'll take to "win" a ticket? From massmoca.org: This special evening will take place in MASS MoCA’s Hunter Center, an indoor venue which will have a capacity capped at 1000, in a general admission, standing room only configuration. The first 500 tickets will be sold to bidders who make the highest offers onlineover a two and a half day period which begins at 10AM on Friday, April 13, and runs through 10 AM on Monday, April 16. To maximize the chance of getting tickets – and also support MASS MoCA – bidders should make the highest offer they can. Those whose bids are not among the top 500 will still have a chance to score tickets to this performance when their bid is placed into a random lottery. Bidders drawn from a hat will be offered the opportunity to purchase a pair of tickets at the price named on their bid form.

Bosco
From the MassMoCA page: In a break with the sometimes inconvenient -- and frequently frustrating -- tradition of awarding scarce concert tickets to the person who happens to be the first to break through a long telephone queue, tickets for the concert are being sold through a unique “Name your Own Price” auction/lottery. “It’s an experiment, which we hope proves to be more civilized, more fair, and more fun than the standard mode of ticket sales,” Don't get me wrong, I love MassMoCA and all, but please don't insult me by calling a limited seating highest bidder method "more civilized, more fair, and more fun", it's intentionally set up to make each ticket more valuable by limiting supply, then they generate buzz by telling everyone their best chance of getting a ticket is to bid real high. Seems to me they could have just as easily sold 5000 tickets for $100 each and held it on Joe's field, maybe even set up a special VIP section for highest bidder. How is it more fair that Joe Banker can plop down $10,000/ticket at the blink of a hat and I have a hard time coming up with $50 for the one seated show, and then I have to stagger the GA shows on the basis of which ones I think will sell out faster to spread it out over several pay checks? In full disclosure mode: Yes, I do work for a bank
Magnetized
I hear you, Bosco. And I agree they're being a little disingenuous in the way they're positioning this, but it is a fundraiser, so this will probably net them more money. And for what it's worth, my bet is that a bid in the range of $75 will put you in the top 500.Sure, there will be some big spenders, but I'm betting not more than a handful, leaving plenty of room for the rest of us. What I'm pleased about is that they're apparently not going to award seats up front to the highest bidder--that will be a case of pure democratic "who's going to get in line the earliest". And it's great that it will be in the theater rather than on Joe's Field, in my opinion. I really prefer an intimate venue to a big outdoor show. The only question for me now is do I try to do this. I'm already doing a FLA run (Tampa and St. Augustine) and Red Rocks. But boy do I hate missing out on a North Adams show, especially if I could pair it up with Hartford the next night. I've got some thinking to do. . . .

I was thinking I might bid $3.63 it would be pretty cool to get in for the price of a soda and some smokes I was on the fence with Red Rocks, that package deal was looking mighty sweet, but I think with these shows I'll get more bang for the buck. Bosco
Weird, it's the only show they didn't give that info on, I just noticed that, good catch. I wrote to Higher Ground about the presale and I got this in response: John-The only presale for Hartford is directly via the band (www.wilcoweb.net). Thedecision was made to limit the presale to just the band since that venue is sosmall. Thanks for supporting live music. I'm not really sure what that means, I would assume "the band" can get as many tickets as they want so I won't take it literally, but that isn't even a valid web site, so I'll assume the mean wilcoworld, but that site doesn't have any info, oh well, I tried. I think what turns me off the most is when you go to the Mass MoCA page and look at the diagram describing the process, there is a picture representation of the top 500 bids, the one at the top of the stack is $100,000, yes, that's right 100 Grand, clearly a show I won't be bring the kids to this year ;^)
Magnetized
Umm, I thnk that $100,000 bid is a severe case of Wishful Thinking! By the way, there's now presale info on all shows, including Hartford. Shakespeare In The Alley
how many more details do you need? it's tomorrow, and it's the same as all other wilco band presales. which means yes, frontgate.
Magnetized
I'd suggest trying to call them but I did that earlier today and spent a little over 30 minutes on hold. When someone finally got on the line the only information they could give me was that yes, there is a presale tomorrow at 10:00 Eastern time. I was calling about Hartford on 8/1 but I think the answer would have been the same for any of the shows. And yes, it was Front Gate, of course.

Thanks for the "polite" reply Shakespeare. Their website doesn't list details about the show/prices for the Rochester show. Cooperstown is listed with all relevant details.I'll check later on the site and see if there is an update.

sonicshoulder
"Wilco live at a brewery in Cooperstown!" Quite possibly the coolest sentence ever spoken.
