The Clash are to punk as Wilco is to alt-country. If anything the fact that they can't be pigeon-holed is to their credit.

rareair
I agree, but if you don't get raked over the coals for saying this, it'l only serve to solidify my beief that "Mats" fans are worse than deadheads.Yup. The Clash are to punk as Wilco is to alt-country. If anything the fact that they can't be pigeon-holed is to their credit.Sorry - I realize that sounded a bit dickish. I was thinking more back to my teenage years when people would claim to like punk based on their owning a Clash album. Kind of like the metal girls whose favorite band was Poison. No offense was intended toward Clash fans.
Ghost of Electricity
It didn't sound dickish at all. I just didn't think that "not punk even though they're often regarded as such" was a valid reason for not deserving critical acclaim. You have to work harder than that if you want to offend me

All within 2 years.
