  1. This is the right time to be looking. We bought while the bubble was still bubbling, and while we haven't been affected too horribly by the collapse of home prices, I cringe when I think about how unfortunate our timing turned out to be.
  2. Am I too late to be the first one to say that this guy's a tool? Here's where he really loses me:
  3. Not exactly true -- these days she co-writes a lot of her solo stuff with Paul Rigby, her guitarist. As I understand it, she writes the lyrics and gets the general tune down, and Rigby adds musical ideas (e.g., chord changes). edit: this was my understanding, but the track lists on All Music Guide list only Neko for most tracks. So I'm confused. edit pt. II: the NYT story bears me out:
  4. Seriously, what is this world coming to? link Gunmen shoot Sri Lanka cricketers Gunmen have attacked a bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team on its way to play in the Pakistani city of Lahore. At least five policemen escorting the team bus were killed, along with a driver. Seven cricketers and an assistant coach were injured. Pakistani officials said about 12 gunmen were involved and grenades and rocket launchers have been recovered. Officials said the incident bore similarities to deadly attacks in Mumbai in India last November. The Mumbai attacks were blamed on Pakistan-bas
  5. some news update: ESPN is reporting the survivor as Nick Schuyler. No word on any of the others. Person found alive where NFL players disappeared CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Coast Guard says it has found a person clinging to an overturned boat off Florida's Gulf Coast, but could not immediately confirm whether it is the same boat carrying NFL players Corey Smith, Marquis Cooper and two other men. The Coast Guard has been searching for the four men since they were reported missing early Sunday morning. As of Monday morning, they had searched 16,000 square miles off Florida's Gulf Coast. Pe
  6. For everyone except those being laid off, this is good news.
  7. I wish I could remember the source of my favorite recent comment about Orlovsky, so I could quote it properly and give credit where it's due, but it the gist of it was that Orlovsky should sign with a CFL team ... because the end zones are deeper in Canada.
  8. Heard him all the time when I was a kid. Not so much in the last thirty years or so. RIP.

  10. This bodes well for you. If you two are working that hard on things, then it must be worth working on. More power to you.
  11. It took me over a decade to recover from the end of my college relationship. In some ways I still haven't.
  12. That was my first thought too.
  13. That place looks good. If I get to Chattanooga anytime soon, I'll have to check it out.
  14. I've seen both (Dino Jr in small club and an early Mould show) and yeah, it would be hard to say which was louder, but they were probably the two loudest shows I've ever endured.
  15. I had heard about Van Lier, but not about Johnny "Red." Wow. I don't know if I'll even be able to watch a Bulls telecast anymore.
  16. Well, this is something. OK, now I'm starting to get excited about this.
  17. For a moment I thought you were asking about your own avatar.
  18. A great band screwed over by an asshole business manager, resulting in two suicides. Stan Polley will rot in hell. I think that fucker is still alive. This is my favorite of theirs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T29-VNiC3Qg
  19. You're probably thinking of the Carousel, which was first a block west of Tiffany's and later in the same strip mall as Tiffany's. I went to the elementary school across the street and used to stop in at both Tiffany's and the Carousel pretty often when walking home. I remember two High Wheeler locations: the main one at the northeast corner of Westnedge and Kilgore (same complex as Roller World), and the other on the lower level of the Hilton/Radisson downtown.
  20. It was called La Bamba. Sadly, the Kalamazoo location has been closed for several years. There are others still scattered about the Midwest.
