  1. Oh cool more posts in the Star Wars threa---
  2. Yeah it's kind of heartbreaking that Luke worrying about Ben turning to the dark side is what made Kylo turn dark. It's Luke's darkest moment too. A lot of layers there. And yes, agreed... Rey and Ren fighting together was great and beautifully shot. Much better then the prequels with tons of light sabres and needless flips.
  3. I disagree. The Last Jedi is anything but just another Star Wars movie, and that's what makes it great. Maybe the best of the series (I don't want to make too strong of a declaration without seeing it twice). Yoda sums it all up "failure is the best teacher" and failure is the theme of this movie. Poe, Rey, Finn all fail in their quests. Poe mutiny fails. Even when Poe does win (the opening scene) it's a failure in the big picture. Rey fails to turn Kylo to the light. Finn fails to find the right codebreaker which causes him to fail at disabling the tracking device. Luke fails Kylo. Leia's pos

  5. I definitely don't mean to be a contrarian, just want to point out, I'm from Vancouver/BC and I've never heard anyone talk about them before. I asked an older friend of mine who was playing bass in Vancouver bands in the mid-80s and he'd never heard of them either. But of course, that's just anecdotal.

    A.M. Deluxe?

I just compared the original to the remastered and the sound is in both! Probably the sound of someone adjusting their instrument.
  7. I'm glad you got it! Bull Moose still doesn't want to sell to us lowly Canadians!! Hopefully Amoeba will have it up soon. Coincidentally I found a copy of Another Fine Day on Discogs today for $25. After this I'll just need another pressing of Down By The Old Mainstream because I'm not shelling out $150 for a used copy.
  8. This must be of interest to some of us. Bull Moose has a listing for a vinyl copy of Weird Tales: http://www.bullmoose.com/p/26390473/golden-smog-weird-tales-2lp-green-vinyl-2lp-green-vinyl-syeor-2018-exclusive Green vinyl. Listed as "SYEOR Exclusive" which apparently is "Start Your Ear Off Right", a Record Store Day initiative. Weird Tales, as you might know, is one of the only Wilco-related records that has never available on vinyl.

    A.M. Deluxe?

Canada Post must know how much I love Wilco because they did a special Sunday morning delivery for me. Naturally I started with Being There side 5, the first bonus disc. I was pretty good about not streaming everything in the past few weeks. So songs like Sun's A Star is new to me and sounds great, despite Jeff admitting he fucked it up. John's linernotes in AM are great, he's got a great way with words and it's nice to hear his perspective. As for the coloured records... the AM vinyl maybe doesn't look as great as the Vinyl Me Please reissue of last year but Being There on white vinyl with w
  10. Your whole post is great but this really sums it up. And I think Jeff just being a regular guy is what leads to his music being so authentic.
  11. I was listening to the new Mavis album last night and was reminded that Jeff has written and recorded a new album for four straight years, Sukierae in 2014, Star Wars 2015, Schmilco 2016, If All I Was Was Black in 2017 plus Together At Last, if Jeff writing/producing/guitaring IAIWWB doesn't cut it for you. I wonder if he's going to keep this up? On one hand I want new music, on the other hand, I feel like the guy deserves a break.

    A.M. Deluxe?

Yeah exactly!! You're right, it's lazy. In the case of Pitchfork, they've written about Jeff vs Jay multiple times over the years, and then they did it again in this review. Which would be one thing but then they just sort of glossed over the new music. I feel like the vast majority of people interested in these deluxe records are probably already familiar with the original albums and the story behind him, I can't see too many non-Wilco fans wanting to put down the amount of cash for either release when they could pick up the original copies for much less (I'm talking mostly vinyl here, I'm no
  13. I genuinely love Bob Dylan's Christmas in the Heart. I think I started off listening to it ironically, mainly to annoy the wife but after awhile we both started getting really into it. You can tell he's having a lot of fun on it, there's a wide range of style, the arrangements are top tier, and his crackly vocals suit the holidays. I know a lot of hardcore Dylan fans think it's one of his worst, but I love every moment of it.

    A.M. Deluxe?

Yeah but I don't know why it has to constantly be portrayed as a Jeff vs Jay battle. He literally calls it an alt-country arms race. There's other angles of the Uncle Tupelo breakup and AM than just Jeff/Jay competition. I wasn't even 10 years old when Being There came out, so obviously I didn't hear it till much later but that record stood out to me as a great album from the get go. I can't remember how much I knew about it before I listened to it, but I don't know how someone can listen to that record at any period and think it's 6.8, but hey, music opinions.. right? There's definitely been

    A.M. Deluxe?

Pitchfork reviewed the new reissues, finally giving Being There a proper score after their founder Ryan Schreiber originally gave it a 6.8. Though on the other hand the reviewer spent most of the AM section of the review on Wilco vs Son Volt, which was played out 10 years ago.

Hope everything went OK and as expected.

    Today

Congrats again. If you get tired of going to 50 concerts a year you can come do my job for me and I will retire.
  18. For what it's worth, according to Discogs, I've bought 53 albums/boxsets released in 2017 this year (no one tell the missus that!). As far as I can recall, only 4 of those releases didn't have download codes, one was the most recent Bob Dylan boxset which had CDs instead, the other three were Together At Last and these two Wilco reissues.
  19. Full disclosure: My opinion might change if/when I see them in person. I'm just judging off that Earth record and also their studio work.
  20. Not sure if anyone caught the livestream on Friday but it was really great. In that sort of setting Old-Man-Neil sounds so much better than when he's with The Promise of the Real.
  21. Nice! One Chord To Another is one of my all time favourite albums! They played 3 or so shows in BC but none near me, I regret not making the road trip, that would have been the tour to see.
  22. Loving the love for Sloan in this thread. Commonwealth is right up there with One Chord To Another and Smeared for me (well, at least the Jay and Chris stuff is), so I'm definitely looking forward to album 12. I doubt we'll get a Wilco album in 2018 but a Tweedy album seems likely. I'd imagine Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett are due for (solo) albums. Lotta Sea Lice only had a few original songs each and the last time either of them had a proper album was 2015. Jack White has an album coming out, I really like Lazaretto. Maybe we will (finally) get another album of original songs from Bob??
  23. So I take it unreleased recordings will start being posted on July 1st.
