It's funny. That recording seems to split people. I love it. That and High Heat (which is in a similar vein) are probably my favorite B-Sides. Its got such a cool tension and atmosphere. Oh well, one man's trash....

I just remembered a song he put out years ago, I think called "Automatic Rifle". Fucking amazing. The heaviest thing I ever heard him do. The song is a narrative about militance, and terrorists. Brutal song, really well written.

Rocky has always struck me as good, almost great. He never crosses over into great, but he's always good. Waxwing, occasionally reached moments of beauty. Especially to my 18 year old ears when I got into them. That Makers album came out really well. I got to share the stage with him years and years ago. One of the nicest dudes in rock and roll for sure.

Outlaw Pete is fucking awful. It would only be mediocre, but he draws it out so long, and that damn string section. Horrible. After that anything on the album sounds pretty decent. But, it's all fairly mediocre compared to Magic. Bad lyrics, super trite. Very Americana Scrabble, cut and paste rustic image-stuff going on.

Does anyone else find it pretty hot to hear Neko sing "I'm a man eater." I know she might be talking about a whale, but I just keep picturing her, with that sword. Yeesh.

Neko Case might be a genius..... I'm excited.

Fulltone Fulldrive 2. Don't just take my word for it. Go to a shop with one and try it out. Made me sell my Ibanz Tube Screamer, which is by no means bad. Hell, while you're at it try a Crowther Hot Cake, maybe some Keeley stuff. We live in an age of beautiful stomp box companies. You have many solid options.

Interesting.... I'd say mine goes: Vitalogy Binaural No Code Riot Act Vs. Yield Pearl Jam Ten

On first listen (which usually is harsher than second): Seems hugely uneven. The greatness of some tracks is contrasted by the mediocrity of others. Seems to gain steam about four tracks in (sorry got a stream from NPR and didn't catch the names). I feel like the most 'different' sounding songs are the best. A few of the songs hit me like standard-issue Ward, without a lot of magic. He definitely has used that song structure with the one line chorus quite a bit (think of that old tune where he says "It's involuntary"). Overall, not a disappointment. I think it's gonna grow on me.

Sound Forge is designed for mastering as opposed to recording/mixing. Its sister program is Vegas, which I have used for years. Does all the same stuff as Pro Tools, but looks way different. I've had conversations with a lot of engineers about how all fully capable audio software (cubase, vegas, pro tools, cakewalk) is just about equally useful, just depends on your working methods and how you like to see things laid out on a computer screen. The biggest argument for Pro Tools is that it is regarded as the universal 'pro' way to do things, so people can work with it in more than one studio

All that has been revealed last time I checked is a vague February/March release date. Cover art and tracklist are still a mystery. I imagine we will know a lot more about this in a few weeks. There was some whispering of some more internet content (streams, mp3's or pictures) from the loft as the boys finish up the new record. That would, I'm sure, be enjoyed by all.

I made an argument on this topic a while back that AGIB is the best candidate (not only because it might be my favorite record). The tale of YHF is obviously a good one, but it has been well documented by magazines, IATTBYH and the Kot book. AGIB was detailed in some ways by the Wilco book, but that had more to do with the mechanics of the band and what the loft is like than what the AGIB process really felt like. I think there was a lot of blood, sweat and tears shed in the AGIB process: first album without Bennett, health problems etc. Also you have the added interest that it was the fir

Anone considering purchasing Fender equipment in 2009

Why is it that Japanese Fenders seem nicer than Mexican ones? I've played a few of the old Japanese ones that seem on par with the U.S. My buddy has a Japanese Jazzmaster, I would be happy to own it. -
Wait. Has there been a release date mentioned for this project? I'm not finding one....

Buy used. That's the good news for lovers of Fender and Gibson products: There is a used market chock full of every shape and variety. A motivated shopper can save a lot of money. That, and it is pretty universally acknowledged that most guitars made pre-1980 just play better. A lot more love in those old ones. -
Are you looking for a finder's fee? Thanks Guey.

How old is Nels Cline?

If you want to get into recording more often a good place to start is an Audio Technica 4033. You can get one on ebay for 300-400. They are used professionally on things like electric guitars, toms, bass guitars, acoustic guitars, some vocals, definitely room mic. That 2020 is fine if you wanna mess around, but a 4033 is a surprisingly, seriously, versatile mic of high quality for low cost.
