Who's the coolest woman in music history?
mountain bed replied to the letter k's topic in Someone Else's Song
Hands down my #1 choice. -
I think that's spot on El F. Especially when you consider that there has been a revolving cast of characters throughout the 13 year history. Another example: King Crimson--a great band, stellar musicians at every point in the band's history, probably close to two dozen different members in total. The man in charge was, and always has been, Robert Fripp. Why, with each change in lineup/musical aspirations has the name KC continued to be used? Why not call it the Fripp band or something else entirely? Very simple: brand name recognition. RF himself has said as much. Do you want the band to conti

Damn, I miss my '71 Pinto Runabout (with the pair of vise-grips tightened down for the gearshift). Lovingly nicknamed "The Thrasher".

Sorry Jess. It appears that my beloved Deer Creek here is gonna bite the big one soon as well. -
Well, I'm old school, but do not forget the original recipe: The New Riders of the Purple Sage.

What Jen said. Especially the part about endorsing Republican candidates.

You know, I cannot imagine thinking more highly of you. In an aside, the MDMA thread comes up on teh Phish board about every other day. Those people are professionals.
-
Of course you would.

You know, some crass individuals get all sarcastic about teh donor rap. I'm not one of em. I'm just glad that a dude that's older than my parents can still get onstage & kick all kinds of ass. Thanks, jc4prez. -
Has Jeff Tweedy ever talked about Huey Lewis?

Huey Lewis & the News...the Hootie & the Blowfish of the '80's -
I remember having this discussion last year: how does this Piston team stack up against the Thomas/Dumars group of the early '90's? I think this team has had a remarkable run. I've come to appreciate them. Some more from the who-gives-a-shit dept.: the Pacers have a new coach (finally!). We'll see how it goes....I'm glad Van Gundy didn't take the job. Never cared for him.

Another vote for Fatal Wound. Especially at 3 AM. -
That brings to mind Jackson Browne: "In '65, I was seventeen..."

Lou, we could really use you over here. This is no joke, the schools here have nearly 2/3 of the students on free or reduced lunch. Not to mention the social worker & special education areas being dreadfully understaffed. It's a daily heartbreaking experience. -
Whoa. Are you pulling my leg? I'm a huge fan. I got nearly everything up to Manhattan.

Congrats Lou! All the best to you man & I certainly hope to see you around here whenever possible. -
I read somewhere once that the English Rock Royalty went to see Hendrix play in a club somewhere in London the day after Pepper was released & he opened up his set with the title track. And, of course, blew everyone's minds.

http://www.sacbee.com/122/story/193235.html Hard to believe, kids, but it's true! Whether it's your favorite or not, it's safe to say the musical world underwent a major shift on this day. I don't know if it's available, but there is a documentary that came out in '87 called "It Was Twenty Years Ago Today" that examines "Pepper" & the year 1967. It's possibly the best thing on the Sixties that I've ever seen. Highly recommended.

I have my favorites (of course) that I would like to see in the rotation, but what I would really like to hear is just a different show each night. I've beat that horse here many times but I'll say it again: If I have no clue as to what is going to be played, I really don't care what they play. The element of surprise is one of the main reasons I love to go to see live shows. People would be more inclined to go see multiple shows (which certainly wouldn't hurt ticket sales) if they knew the contour of a show could change nightly, rather than seeing virtually the same setlist over & over.

Happy Birfday!!

You realize, of course, the 'oldies' go up to 1981 now...the year we graduated!

Excellent choice!

In through the nose, out through the mouth. HEY! That's it! Stuff is starting to come back already!
