  1. Rooney! Anyhoo, I agree there are many factors for why us "old timers" fell off the face of VC. Mostly life (i.e. family, work) but also other venues of communication (such as Facebook). Various small FB groups may or may not exist . I joined VC in ~2002 to find a bootleg of a specific show (that I've still never found!), ended up here all the time when I was up late on-call at the hospital etc. It used to be a handful of members, and we got to know each other well (first on line, then eventually in person). For many of us, I think it just got too big and less intimate. At that point, seve
  2. Hi Lou. This is a hilarious thread. I remember when the board crashed in 2003. None of us knew what to do. I think Dashley created a temp backup forum for a few days? And I remember the day when VC surpassed 100 members, then 1,000 members. Now it's up to 16,000+ and I'm an "old timer" because I understand the title of this thread. At least I'll never be as old as you Say hi to Rosie!
  3. Wow this is a pretty nutso thread to read through....Thank you Wilco for one of the best shows I've ever witnessed! I don't know how anyone could have been bored Friday night. What other band does this for their fans?! I love Wilco so much. Such a happy happy night!
  4. Why didn't I buy this from you? Geez
  5. I caught one of the LRS here in Portland last week-ish. It was really quite amazing and special. I loved hearing some Red Red Meat and reminisced with Tim about Lounge Ax in the 90s. He told a very funny story about puking Jagermeister in the white snow, in the Lounge Ax back alley. I'm so glad I went; thanks M Christine for the heads up. At least I made it to one Chicago-related Living Room Show this year...not feeling *as* remorseful for missing Jeff's LRS!
  6. wah. i will be in chicago 2 weeks later. maybe 2 trips in one month?
  7. I saw Mick Jones and the Justice Tonight Band in Lyon France last month, opening for The Stone Roses. They played Rock the Casbah and Should I Stay or Should I Go. It was surreal. A large mosh pit ensued.
  8. Music is such an indulgent, natural, and free pleasure of life. I totally agree with your comment about people's delight in creating their love/hate lists when it comes to musical artists. The 70's were a great time of all sorts of awesomeness. In the same bedroom where I listened to my Donna Summer 45s were my Kiss LPs (those 4 solo albums, plus my 8-track of Love Gun), my dad's copy of Let it Be, and of course my Grease (the movie) Soundtrack. What a crazy mix of music at the age of 7 or 8 yrs old!
  9. I am so sad that Donna Summer is gone. I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I cried this morning when I heard the news. When I was in 2nd grade (~1978 or 79), our class was learning how to write letters. Most people wrote to President Carter, an astronaut, the Mayor, and the like. I wrote a letter to Donna Summer, my idol. I would listen to 45s of Last Dance, MacArthur Park, Dim All The Lights, and Hot Stuff over and over again. I got a form letter back, but there was a hand-written note at the end. Who knows if it was really Donna who added that personal touch, but it sent me over

  11. ...and this is just one example of why I *heart* Gogo. Great show, nice evening in Eugene. Highlight: Poor Places was a highlight for me. Per usual. Lowpoint: Jeff's new denim jacket. It's gotta go.
  12. I think it's kind of obvious. And really hard for me to watch, honestly.
  13. ...and i am quickly adding another post because I just realized that I have 666 posts. EEK! Sorry, it's the Filipino Catholic superstition in me that will never fade despite my othwerise scientific,evidence-based ways. And with this: 667.
  14. It was really great to hear so many songs off the new record last weekend. I heard many (if not all?) of The Whole Love at Mass MoCA, but this was the first time hearing them live since the record was released. I was at the Metro and Lincoln Hall shows, which i guess make it even better, being at such small venues. I quickly developed a new appreciation and love for this new record. The layers, the depth, and the expressions/passion on Jeff's face during the songs really made a difference. With the exception of Capital City. Sorry-- maybe it will hit me in February....
  15. That's some good beer, no? I am really astounded that this was the first Wilco show at the Metro. Weird! Super fun, sweaty rock show. Just like all shows should be at The Metro. However, next time I'll prefer not to be surrounded by the Irish Mafia on the Shanahan-side balcony. Heh heh.
  16. This really did feel like a living room show, but with the whole band. It was moving enough to make me cry (the first 3 songs = tearjerker for a softie like me), nostalgically awesome enough that I let go an uncontrollable and embarrassing "woo hoo!" (back in your old neighborhood, cigarettes taste so good), and quiet enough in between songs that you could hear a pin drop. This whole weekend ended up being quite an amazing one. I had a reunion with my old college roommate; we lived in a shitty apartment upstairs from Lounge Ax (technically above the Jury Room, also gone). We would sell u
  17. That popcorn is REALLY good. Also, complimentary bags of Garrett's Triple Mix popcorn were passed out at this year's Solid Sound Festival
  18. it was a really great show here in portland. i recommend you make the drive!

I wish they could play at Lounge Ax. How about Cubby Bear? Is that still around?
  20. ah, well..give or take a couple weeks
  21. I'm always fascinated by each individual's response to a record. I am 110% obsessed with Mirror Traffic! From beginning to end. As amazing as Wowee or Crooked Rain to me.
  22. If this year's Solid Sound had been the same weekend as the 2010 festival, we would have been standing in even more rain. Hurricane Irene was the same August weekend. Go Mass MoCA's Facebook page, and look at the video they posted on August 29 or so. Pretty amazing.
  23. Here are a few of my favorite items; never mind they are all food-focused. Great music and food are requirements to a good life, right? 1. Arrived on Day #1 to be handed free bags of Garrett's popcorn (caramel & cheddar mix) from Chicago. OH MY! 2. Beer selection was really great this year (Goose Island and Lagunitas). I know of course someone will complain that there wasn't enough yadda yadda but you can't please everyone 3. The catfish po boys at that fodo cart on Joe's Field 4. Samosaman. And his sweet potato fries
