Bernie by a hair. Cruz, Trump, Rubio. Cruz and Trump will slowly fade, as will Sanders. I won't call Clinton v Rubio yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I really enjoy this LP. Their 2nd one didn't do much for me and then I lost track of them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Too lazy to find a better thread to post this in and I apologize if it's been posted elsewhere. Nels Cline and Julian Lage on Mountain Stage http://www.npr.org/event/music/463034184/nels-cline-and-julian-lage-on-mountain-stage

Right there with you. I've been home from work a lot this week so I've had time to go down the Bowie wormholes. From age 13, he was a favorite. Throughout all of high school, probably THE favorite. His music shaped so much of me. It was so weird to wake up to a text from a friend Monday morning. I'd spent much of the weekend listening to a TON of Bowie, after listen to Blackstar 3 or 4 times. I especially listened to some things I'd ignored for a long time (some, it turns out, for good reason). Then, boom, he's gone. Damn! Three things have made me really get weepy. https://pbs.twimg.com/

Politics 2016 (election edition)

The SOTU address was a big topic of conversation with my 10-year-old kids. Living in Iowa, we're inundated with all things political these days. As we discussed the president, the candidates, and other topics, I became more and more frustrated with the 2-party system. It's not going away but it's so damn destructive. The more entrenched our society becomes in media (traditional and social) the more the parties turn every issue into a win/lose contest. Why compromise when that's harder to frame as win? -
I tried to find a youtube clip of an interview in '87. I remember watching it at the time. He pretty much admitted to it. The only quote I could find from the interview is unsourced, but I remember it like it was yesterday because my brother and I discussed it quite a bit. "I don't begrudge any artist for getting an audience. That's rubbish. I've never found that poverty meant purity." David Bowie Again, I don't mind the attempt to grow his audience. It brought me into the fold as an adolescent and helped expand my music beyond Men at Work, Billy Joel, and whatever else radio and MTV wer

I agree. I went on a huge Bowie binge Friday night. I loved it. Listened to Blackstar about 3x as well as some of the stuff I don't listen to very much, including the very crappy Never Let Me Down. I am really struck by how Bowie created his swan song. The album, the Lazarus video, the guy knew exactly what he was doing.I'm guessing he was really holding on strongly to outlive the release of Blackstar. I never expected the outpouring of grief shown to him.

One of the things that's always bugged me about the way Bowie is usually covered is the agreed upon assumption that his 80s sellout was awful. If it wasn't for his 80s sellout, I'm not sure I would've discovered him. If I didn't discover him, I'm not sure I would've discovered the Velvet Underground and Iggy Pop. Let's Dance is a good album. Tonight and Never Let Met Down are pretty awful, but if those albums drew others like me to dig further into his catalog, his influences, and those he influenced, then selling out was the best damn idea he ever had.

Solo in Let's Dance, pretty sure he's on Cat People and a few others.

I don't think SRV appeared in any videos.
-
Funny, I saw my brother last week, and he had no memory of SRV on that either.

Got a text from a friend at 1:25 am. Saw it at 5:15. Devastated, but touched by all the well-deserved attention he's getting. He gets a lot of grief for his 80's sell out; but, to me, finding him at that time was a first step into a large world of underground music. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Being owned by a macro brewery in and of itself isn't a bad thing. It does become a concern that bigwigs will begin to stick their heads in where they don't belong.

Constitutionally, absolutely. The Feds would be completely in the right to enforce pot laws. Chris Christie moved down my short list when he threatened to do just that, though. Sometimes it's best to use discretion. I haven't paid enough attention to this story to know what the best course of action is though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Who are the bands whose new albums you will ALWAYS buy?
uncool2pillow replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Not sure any. Will probably buy Wilco, Bowie, Isbell, Mould, Richard Thompson and a few more. I need some idea what I'm getting myself into though. For example, I will buy the new Bowie that came out today, but listened to it twice first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
