  1. I am doing my best to not consider political party when analyzing a candidate's fitness for the presidency. The question as to whether Trump's early success in the polls is a barometer of the current Republican party is a meaningless question to me. I won't vote for him if her runs as a Republican, independent, or anything else. As someone who's always considered themselves a libertarian Republican (not nearly as ideologically pure as a Rand Paul type), it's been hard to watch the movement of the Republicans to the right on everything. I am still registered Republican because I appreciate th
  2. If I had his money, I'd hire Rusty Hardin. Dude has performed miracles for Adrian Peterson and Kurt Busch.
  3. I saw St. Paul & the Broken Bones last week at a festival. Didn't know a thing about them. What a SHOW!
  4. The crowd on the webcast looked mostly bored. This was not the people who tried to get nearest the stage. I am sure there were big fans up front. It didn't appear to me that they were winning many converts.
  5. I remember Lou Reed being quoted saying essentially the same thing in 1987 on the 20th anniversary. I was a teenager into punk rock, the Velvets, Bowie, etc. so I ate it up. Today, I like Sgt. Pepper, but it's nowhere near as good as its legacy suggests. Revolver, Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, and most of the White Album is better.
  6. I take my social studies students to an area Mosque every year. I know people who worship there and I respect and admire them. Are there a small number mosques that need to be monitored? Hell yes. Just like there right-wing hate groups that need to be monitored. That said, yeah, the debate was pretty pointless.
  7. November 14 in Des Moines as well. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/elections/presidential/caucus/2015/08/06/iowa-democratic-debate-drake-university/31212155/?hootPostID=4d51c695e66243f075d9ec0c8adb440b
  8. It will be great theater for sure. I was going to say political theater but changed my mind.
  9. Make me an offer on it. I don't think I have the original box, just the 4 jewel boxes.
  10. I kinda regret vuying that years ago. I listen to the studio stuff so much more.
  11. These guys were the real deal.
  12. Must be played at maximum volume. If your eardrums don't bleed, you're doing it wrong.
  13. Joe Pug, St Paul and the Broken Bones, Lucius, Justin Townes Earle, Yonder Mountain String Band, Brandi Carlile, Old Crow Medicine Show
  14. I just finished that book. I could not be happier that John Green is one of the most influential personalities for this generation of kids.
  15. In either scenario, if Israel thinks Iran's nuclear capability is imminent, they will carry out airstrikes.
  16. I watched it while pretty drunk. I don't recall many specifics, but enjoyed it very much!
  17. Vinyl is pretty much the perfect definition of a luxury item. Music is available at low cost through CDs and downloads and, frankly, piracy. Vinyl may sound better, but I'd say the people who invest a lot of money in vinyl have also invested a lot in high-end audio equipment that would make CDs or even MP3s sound pretty great. I have friends who spend a lot on vinyl and that's cool. I've enjoyed re-living my own pre-digital days. But to complain about the prices of vinyl seems ridiculous. If it's too expensive, don't buy it.
  18. I thought Paul was the only guitarist on that one, like Within Your Reach. Could be completely wrong though. It is fantastic!
  19. It was interesting to hear him kind of defend some of the recent releases. He didn't mention any by name, but I am assuming he was referring specifically to SBS and W(TA). I love most of SBS and believe that W(TA) has some great songs. W(TA) is definitely the weakest part of their catalog, but it's good to be reminded that it has some great material and to hear him stand by it.
  20. Has anyone mentioned any of the 2008 Winter Residency shows? I was at night #2 (2/16/08) and it was pretty fantastic. There's a beautiful matrix recording (NYC Taper?) floating around out there. Probably biased because I was there, but it's outstanding.
  21. I'm accompanying my wife to Duran Duran at Red Rocks in September mostly because Chic is opening and I am very interested in seeing him. I am sure he will sit in with Duran Duran on quite a few numbers.
  22. Prince - Let's Go Crazy Bob Mould - Wishing Well
  23. It is VERY good. Back up and pay more attention to Southeastern. Something More Than Free may grow on me more than Southeastern, but right now that's a top 5 record for me. It was my introduction to Isbell. Saw him live 3 times in 13 months and he's quickly becoming my favorite.
