  1. I had a college roommate who loved Zappa. I respect his musicianship but do not enjoy his music. Joe's Garage was good for a laugh and I could sit and listen to his solos from time to time.
  2. Performer? Bowie > Lou Songwriter? Bowie Lou's solo output is uneven at best, but still lots of stellar stuff, the same could be said for Bowie. Lou could hardly do any wrong for the Velvets.
  3. I think you nailed it. Freddie's Dead is a cover, but I might put it in place of Another Generation.
  4. Well, there's that, and that's not helpful either.
  5. You're probably right. Too bad that's not how it was sold. The focus now, IMO, should be on containment. I am a bit tired of listening to candidates talk about destroying ISIS. If we "destroy" them, they will morph into something else just like much of Al Qaeda morphed into ISIS. Go after their money and keep them from growing. If opportunities present themselves for taking back land, go for it, but with minimal U.S. boots on the ground. I just don't see that as serving our national interest. Long-term, our strategy needs to be to win the propaganda war. I am very much a pro-Islam person.
  6. I could see rhe conservative wing trying to rally around Cruz or Walker to prevent Bush from winning.
  7. I used to only listen when the interviews were with people I was interested in. Now I listen to every episode. Brilliant interviewer!
  8. Email from Wilco says tomorrow is the last day to download it for free if anyone on this board hasn't done it yet.
  9. Football is the national pastime and the Hall of Fame game is the first taste for junkies like me after the off-season. I doubt any other preseason games garner ratings like that.
  10. The real winner was inaugurated. Period. You can blame the electoral college for the person who won the most votes not winning, but Bush won more votes in Florida. http://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/12/politics/12VOTE.html
  11. References to Eisenhower got me to thinking... Could Colin Powell win as an independent? I don't think he wants the job, but let's assume he did. He's too moderate to get the Republican nomination. Probably in too deep with Iraq to get the Democratic nomination. He'd be a good no-nonsense leader.
  12. I am doing my best to not consider political party when analyzing a candidate's fitness for the presidency. The question as to whether Trump's early success in the polls is a barometer of the current Republican party is a meaningless question to me. I won't vote for him if her runs as a Republican, independent, or anything else. As someone who's always considered themselves a libertarian Republican (not nearly as ideologically pure as a Rand Paul type), it's been hard to watch the movement of the Republicans to the right on everything. I am still registered Republican because I appreciate th
  13. If I had his money, I'd hire Rusty Hardin. Dude has performed miracles for Adrian Peterson and Kurt Busch.
  14. I saw St. Paul & the Broken Bones last week at a festival. Didn't know a thing about them. What a SHOW!
  15. The crowd on the webcast looked mostly bored. This was not the people who tried to get nearest the stage. I am sure there were big fans up front. It didn't appear to me that they were winning many converts.
  16. I remember Lou Reed being quoted saying essentially the same thing in 1987 on the 20th anniversary. I was a teenager into punk rock, the Velvets, Bowie, etc. so I ate it up. Today, I like Sgt. Pepper, but it's nowhere near as good as its legacy suggests. Revolver, Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, and most of the White Album is better.
  17. I take my social studies students to an area Mosque every year. I know people who worship there and I respect and admire them. Are there a small number mosques that need to be monitored? Hell yes. Just like there right-wing hate groups that need to be monitored. That said, yeah, the debate was pretty pointless.
  18. November 14 in Des Moines as well. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/elections/presidential/caucus/2015/08/06/iowa-democratic-debate-drake-university/31212155/?hootPostID=4d51c695e66243f075d9ec0c8adb440b
  19. It will be great theater for sure. I was going to say political theater but changed my mind.
  20. Make me an offer on it. I don't think I have the original box, just the 4 jewel boxes.
  21. I kinda regret vuying that years ago. I listen to the studio stuff so much more.
  22. These guys were the real deal.
  23. Must be played at maximum volume. If your eardrums don't bleed, you're doing it wrong.
