  1. I could try to explain how perfect the timing of this LP in my life is, but instead I'll just thank Wilco.
  2. No one answer. B.B. King was a great soloist in large degree because of his incredible vibrato, but he could hardly play chords. Pete Townsend, pretty much the opposite. Neal Peart, Keith Moon and Glen Kotche are probably my 3 favorite rock drummers, but I don't think their styles overlap much at all. I like the Zappa phrase Winston quoted. Do something unique. Develop a singular style.
  3. ITMWLY at the Down Valley Tavern in El Jebel, CO.
  4. Totally disagree. I would say Nels adds little to most AM and BT material and Pat or Jeff can solo on those songs.
  5. They sure know how to play baseball in the state of Missouri! Royals and Cardinals are tearing it up. Maybe another I-70 World Series this year? I certainly don't wish injury on any player, but after Alex Gordon went down, I was hopeful the Twins could close the gap between them and the Royals. Nope! They just keep winning.
  6. One more note. I can't help feeling a bit bad for Mountain Bed every time I hear them launch into I'm the Man Who Loves You.
  7. Not much discussion. A bit about the weather in Des Moines being better than Arizona the week before. After the crowd applauded, Jeff said, that wasn't much of a compliment. That was about it.
  8. Handshake Drugs Camera IATTBYH Art of almost Hummingbird Panthers Shouldn't be ashamed Secret of the Sea Heavy metal drummer Itmwly Via Chicago Born to die alone Not for the Season Jesus etc Impossible Germany Box Full of letters Red-eyed and blue I Got You (At the End of the Century) Dawned on me A shot in the arm The Late Greats I'm a wheel Maybe the best set I've seen from them. I was worried about how they might approach this festival but they really got it done.
  9. Kinda hoping B-Bop is making the trek to Des Moines. Or someone else who would keep track of a setlist. It's always nice to save those for posterity, but I don't think I will be the guy to do it. I guess they post most setlists up on their Facebook page.
  10. Yep. I posted it on Facebook though I usually avoid starting political discussions there. Thanks for sharing.
  11. As a casual fan, I loke this approach. The songs on those LPs are solid. Once you really get them in your head I think it will be easier to appreciate their live approach.
  12. Didn't post yesterday because I didn't know until minutes before I got in the car. Jason Isbell. Some great new songs. Can't wait for the new CD.
  13. There's also some beautiful sonic stuff happening on One Sunday Morning. You're tempted to focus on just the words and the hypnotic guitar, but there's some great percussion, electric guitar, and other noise.
  14. Knowing Coulter is a fan, it would've been nice to hear, "Be Kind! We're talking to you Ann Coulter!"
  15. I have a friend who lives on the South Loop. He may have been at that show, but if the horn was as loud in the stadium is it sounded in the stream I was listening to, I felt bad for his little boy back at home and all the other neighbors.
  16. That was a good piece. Wondering if Sam was there so he didn't feel left out, to provide moral support to his mom, who didn't seem at all comfortable, or a little bit of both.
  17. It's your own goddamned fault for bringing math into the discussion!
  18. I only missed China Cat and some of I Know You Rider last night. Sorry I missed China Cat. I may have to go back and hear that. Anyhow, I enjoyed most of this show last night. During Drums, I had the TV on the NASCAR race. Was expecting to find local news, but was too lazy to turn it off. Watching NASCAR and listening to Drums was kind of a trip. Unbroken Chain and Days Between nearly did me in, though. The only time I was really bored listening to any of these shows. But what a finish! Not Fade Away was fantastic!
  19. I'm surprised there hasn't been any Good Lovin' or Not Fade Away yet. I could do without Good Lovin', but would love to hear Not Fade Away. Final encore? I imagine they'd want to close with an original, but I don't know.
  20. I have enjoyed nearly every bit of these shows that I've heard. Perfect? No. Nothing more than a massive money grab? Bullshit. I'd pay $200 to hear this version of the Dead before I'd drop $5 on whatever the hell the Pixies are these days. I wish I could find the right words to articulate what I think they're trying to do. Closure? Something like that maybe. Most of it has sounded very good to my novice ears.
  21. The heat better not warp their guitars and fuck up their appearance in Des Moines next week!
  22. Let's just say I was skeptical of the slippery slope the same-sex marriage naysayers were tossing about until now. Thanks, SCOTUS!
  23. Trump will fade. The caucuses here are still more than 6 months away. Remember, four years ago Michelle Bachmann won our (now defunct) straw poll before fading before the actual voting. I think that many of those who are responding positively to him are doing so because they are racist xenophobes. I think others just like the idea of someone speaking being politically incorrect. They don't necessarily agree with him, but view him as some courageous figure in what they view as our hypersensitive culture. His bombast draws attention and attention begets attention. My prediction is he will fade a
