  1. I thought Paul was the only guitarist on that one, like Within Your Reach. Could be completely wrong though. It is fantastic!
  2. It was interesting to hear him kind of defend some of the recent releases. He didn't mention any by name, but I am assuming he was referring specifically to SBS and W(TA). I love most of SBS and believe that W(TA) has some great songs. W(TA) is definitely the weakest part of their catalog, but it's good to be reminded that it has some great material and to hear him stand by it.
  3. Has anyone mentioned any of the 2008 Winter Residency shows? I was at night #2 (2/16/08) and it was pretty fantastic. There's a beautiful matrix recording (NYC Taper?) floating around out there. Probably biased because I was there, but it's outstanding.
  4. I'm accompanying my wife to Duran Duran at Red Rocks in September mostly because Chic is opening and I am very interested in seeing him. I am sure he will sit in with Duran Duran on quite a few numbers.
  5. Prince - Let's Go Crazy Bob Mould - Wishing Well
  6. It is VERY good. Back up and pay more attention to Southeastern. Something More Than Free may grow on me more than Southeastern, but right now that's a top 5 record for me. It was my introduction to Isbell. Saw him live 3 times in 13 months and he's quickly becoming my favorite.
  7. I am in town for a conference. Went with a local buddy. I determined a while ago that next time I was in Chicago on a Monday night to hit Fulks at the Hideout. Highly recommend that anyone else do the same.
  8. Yep. I knew he was a music fan, but was pleasantly surprised to s ee him. My buddy and I chatted him up for a while. Then Robbie joined the conversation. Quite a night.
  9. Robbie Fulks and Eric Noden at the Hideout. Pretty transcendent shit. Also met George Wendt.
  10. Anyone else think Pat was more focused on playing (as opposed to posing) when playing the Star Wars songs?
  11. I should have said implode. https://youtu.be/7k1ajHAeXMU
  12. I could try to explain how perfect the timing of this LP in my life is, but instead I'll just thank Wilco.
  13. No one answer. B.B. King was a great soloist in large degree because of his incredible vibrato, but he could hardly play chords. Pete Townsend, pretty much the opposite. Neal Peart, Keith Moon and Glen Kotche are probably my 3 favorite rock drummers, but I don't think their styles overlap much at all. I like the Zappa phrase Winston quoted. Do something unique. Develop a singular style.
  14. ITMWLY at the Down Valley Tavern in El Jebel, CO.
  15. Totally disagree. I would say Nels adds little to most AM and BT material and Pat or Jeff can solo on those songs.
  16. They sure know how to play baseball in the state of Missouri! Royals and Cardinals are tearing it up. Maybe another I-70 World Series this year? I certainly don't wish injury on any player, but after Alex Gordon went down, I was hopeful the Twins could close the gap between them and the Royals. Nope! They just keep winning.
  17. One more note. I can't help feeling a bit bad for Mountain Bed every time I hear them launch into I'm the Man Who Loves You.
  18. Not much discussion. A bit about the weather in Des Moines being better than Arizona the week before. After the crowd applauded, Jeff said, that wasn't much of a compliment. That was about it.
  19. Handshake Drugs Camera IATTBYH Art of almost Hummingbird Panthers Shouldn't be ashamed Secret of the Sea Heavy metal drummer Itmwly Via Chicago Born to die alone Not for the Season Jesus etc Impossible Germany Box Full of letters Red-eyed and blue I Got You (At the End of the Century) Dawned on me A shot in the arm The Late Greats I'm a wheel Maybe the best set I've seen from them. I was worried about how they might approach this festival but they really got it done.
  20. Kinda hoping B-Bop is making the trek to Des Moines. Or someone else who would keep track of a setlist. It's always nice to save those for posterity, but I don't think I will be the guy to do it. I guess they post most setlists up on their Facebook page.
  21. Yep. I posted it on Facebook though I usually avoid starting political discussions there. Thanks for sharing.
  22. As a casual fan, I loke this approach. The songs on those LPs are solid. Once you really get them in your head I think it will be easier to appreciate their live approach.
