  1. Some good stuff. Jeff showed his humorous side a few times and gave genuinely thoughtful and serious answers especially about songwriting process. I also appreciated learning that the reason the don't play EKG live is to avoid switching guitars after opening with such a short song.
  2. It really is hard to sort through all of this and find Jeff and Nels' answers. I found Jeff's username is WilcoJeff and search for that to read his answers, but I can't even find Nels' userid. Anyone??
  3. Lots of internet ads are determined by cookies.
  4. I wondered when SW (the album) was first released, whether maybe the movie was released the same day as BT (the movie) or if there was some other connection between the movies that explained the reason for the title.
  5. That cover's been around for 4 years. It's pretty sweet!
  6. God knows how many times I've heard The Late Greats, but if I saw that shirt, I think I'd think "I know those guys from somewhere" and it would drive me nuts hours.
  7. Maybe a spoiler alert, not sure keep scrolling. I tried reading Gone Girl. Couldn't stand the prose one bit. Can't explain why. I thought the movie was decent but a bit misogynistic in a Fatal Attraction kind of way. Surprised how many women I know who loved the book.
  8. It's just like the movie series. First I bought it on VHS, then the THX VHS, then DVD. I think there was a fourth in there somewhere too. Haven't bought a single BluRay in my life yet. I've joked that George Lucas could put my kids through college on all the money I've given him.
  9. No doubt a no-hitter is filled with great merit, but it is not alone a sign of a pitcher's greatness. Many great pitchers never threw a no-hitter and many forgettable ones did.
  10. I love a lot of this CD. David Byrne, Bob Mould, R.E.M., Dinosaur Jr. all make great contributions.
  11. Cheap energy harms the energy sector, of course. But it frees up billions of dollars for the rest of the economy. Obviously, environmental concerns need to be accounted for as well. One area you left out was the importance of energy independence. The more energy independent we become, the more we can begin dealing with Arab states on our values rather than our needs. We rightly vilify Iran but turn a blind eye to atrocities in Saudi Arabia because we feel we need to. I'm not for drill, baby, drill. I am, however, for an energy policy that stresses both independence and sustainability, in th
  12. Around the time Lou was inducted to the Hall of Fame, Bowie or Laurie Anderson or someone else said it will go down as one of his greatest works. I'm sure you're right, but I feel I owe it another listen
  13. Me too. But she's more a shock jock than a pundit.
  14. Modulate - Bob Mould Lulu - Lou Reed/Metallica (need to revisit this)
  15. Haha! We have our Echo tucked behind the TV. The commercials they're showing for it now turn it on.
  16. And I like the rapid-fire changes in be-bop. It just doesn't translate well to my rock sensibilities. Not a fan of his voice either.
  17. I had a college roommate who loved Zappa. I respect his musicianship but do not enjoy his music. Joe's Garage was good for a laugh and I could sit and listen to his solos from time to time.
  18. Performer? Bowie > Lou Songwriter? Bowie Lou's solo output is uneven at best, but still lots of stellar stuff, the same could be said for Bowie. Lou could hardly do any wrong for the Velvets.
  19. I think you nailed it. Freddie's Dead is a cover, but I might put it in place of Another Generation.
  20. Well, there's that, and that's not helpful either.
  21. You're probably right. Too bad that's not how it was sold. The focus now, IMO, should be on containment. I am a bit tired of listening to candidates talk about destroying ISIS. If we "destroy" them, they will morph into something else just like much of Al Qaeda morphed into ISIS. Go after their money and keep them from growing. If opportunities present themselves for taking back land, go for it, but with minimal U.S. boots on the ground. I just don't see that as serving our national interest. Long-term, our strategy needs to be to win the propaganda war. I am very much a pro-Islam person.
