You are going to think I am crazy, but AGIB is what hookd me on Wilco. It was my first CD purchase and I loved it from the opening riff. I think Muzzle, Hummigbird, Hell is Chrome, Spiders (yes, I said Spiders, dammit!), Theologians will go down as Wilco classics. Lyrically, the best LP, IMHO.

I have had difficulty explaining Wilco, too. The above is nice but I suspect would leave the listener even more in the dark. I usually say they are the best Rock 'n Roll band working today. (BTW, is that true? Is there a better one?)

I need a little help from my VC friends. I am working on putting together Hummingbird (Jeff's solo acoustic version) and I am missing a chord. See below. I suspect it is Dm (xx0321), but I am not convinced. For those playing along, I am listening to the 04-06-2007 show. Jeff plays it mostly palm-muted, but they chords are clear, I think. So if someone can be so kind a take a listen and figure out my missing chord, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, check out the rest of the progression and let me know if you have any feedback. Thanks in adance. Wilco - Hummingbird (JT Solo vers

Not sure if you are into Zep, but this site has bass tabs for all the tunes: http://led-zeppelin.org/multimedia/index.php?m=tablature

1970's TV references aside, I do think that this site is a better resource for good tabs / chords then the book. On a related note, do you ever wonder if Jeff looks at the stuff we post up here? Do you think he giggles at our mistakes or is flattered that anyone would give a damn and try to figure out his tunes?

Ha! After finishing it, I feel exactly the same. I don't see that big deal. S. King writes better End Of The World stories. The Stand is in my top 5 novels ever. Now I am reading:

Here is my stab at putting it all together: I'm The Man Who Loves You Standard Tuning Capo on 1st fret Intro: (not relative to capo) e|-----------------------------------------------| B|-----------------------------------------------| G|-----------------------------------------------| D|-----------------------------------------------| A|-----------------------------------------------| E|13----s------1-----s-----13-----s-----1--------| e 4-4-4-4-4-4---4-4-4-4--------4-4-------------------------------------- b ---------------------------4-4---------4-4------------------------------- g --

My favorite is This American Life. Thanks for the Buddhist recommendation. Gonna try that one out!

For those who haven't this killer version:

When it comes to playing Jeff's riffs, he usually picks notes in and around the chord shape you are aleady gripping. Try using you pre-existing grip and start thowing in hammer-ons from the open string. Like the intro to Muzzle I posted and the intro to Was I in Your Dreams. Both tend to use this technique. Best advice is the the cliche: practice.

My two cents: Don't buy that 99.00 Epi special at GC. You don't want to get a guitar you will outgrow in 3 months. My advice? 1. Buy an acoustic guitar; best place to learn, IMHO. TO easy to hide behind distortion and power chords. Stunt your growth. 2. Spend a least 500 bucks. I think Epi Masterbuilts are a good choice. I learned on a Taylor 110. Great guitar and highly recommended. 3. Get it 'set up'. A hard guitar to play is the worst thing for discouraging you. A proper setup will alleviate this problem.

Not bad:

Try this: |----2-2p0----------2p0-----0----|----0h2-----0h2-----0----| |-----------3------------3-----3-|---------3-------3-----3-| |--------------------------------|-------------------------| |----0---------0----0------------|----0-------0------------| |--------------------------------|-------------------------| |-0---------------0--------------|-0-----------------------| Sounds pretty close to my ears.

Nice! I never could get that little riff around the C chord just right. I usually walked down Cadd9 to C7 to C, but yours is right on. Thanks!

New: Gillian Welch, Bright Eyes, Iron & Wine Old: Byrds, Dylan, CSN, Neil Young Different: Miles, Coltrane, Robert Johnson, Lightnin Hopkins

Thanks, man. I think it sounds fine with Capo 2. But I am pretty sure it is at 5 for the Living Room Show version. At least to my ears (admittedly poor). The little riff is difficult to get perfect, so I don't bother. Do a few random pull-offs and hammer-ons around the D - Dsus2 transition and voila! Close enough.

+1 for me.

Nice. Love the humbucker in the neck - very Keef. Great job on the neck refinish. Never would have thought it a Crier .. err .. Squier.
