  1. it was a hard decision this past saturday night...wilco or avetts. i hate that they played on the same night so geographically close. both are bands on top of their live act. the avetts always put on a solid show, burning lots of calories in the process! wilco won. but i live close to knoxville and had close floor seats. i really can't wait to see them again.
  2. i wish i had been up on my wilco followin' to know about this!!! i didn't even know this went down till jeff mentioned it at the show...then i was like wtf. if you guys want to see some pics, become a fan of the disc exchange, knoxville on facebook. they have quite a few pics from the event.
  3. i do agree with this. maybe they are trying to go the total opposite route with this one than they did with sbs. i like the idea of the record having an "impact" as someone put it, b/c for me, sbs did not...i had my hands on the album a couple of months before it came out. after having seen them in knoxville saturday and asheville last night, i am surprised that no new material was played. i think the only new song i have heard is "wilco the song." don't know if anyone has heard the rest. i am trying to go the opposite route that i did with sbs...so that the record will have an impact.
  4. not at all, my friend. agree to disagree. in the words of tweedy at asheville last night, "nels, you melt my face off."
  5. she and her pops (i imagine it was her pops) were sitting right across the aisle from me. he was putting her up on his shoulders and event staff came up and told him something right before hummingbird started...i thought they were getting busted for having her up there. next thing i know, he puts her down and she walks up to the stage and is helping tweedy sing the song. very cool. a highlight in a very, very good show. i saw them in knoxville saturday as well, and i thought that was the best show i had seen them play to date. this one, my eighth, was better even than that one.
  6. cool photo. even cooler now that i see myself in it! great show. great.
  7. I have four extra tickets to their show in Knoxville at the Tennessee. Second row balcony. I am interested in trading for two Asheville tickets at the Thomas Wolfe that next week. Any takers? welch79@charter.net
  8. well you can def. say that again. he was a regular ass when i saw him in town a coupla weeks ago. real shit despite playing some off trace and some ut tracks. bobby bare, jr., his opener, actually stole the show. he's got a real good thing going. you guys should check him out.
  9. you know in itunes preferences, there is an option for apple lossless which sounds better than aac or mp3 rips using itunes. the files are, of course, dramatically larger. just manage your ipod where you put the songs that you want on it (not your whole collection). when was the last time you listened to that r.e.m. album anyway? not saying that you won't ever again, just take it off and put some lossless stuff on there for now.
  10. i wasn't stabbing at you, there. it was a simple hypothetical. sap. (just kidding)
  11. the bells, i guess. i just would rather skip to jar.
  12. awright...picture it like this: you're some sap that works for the editing firm that puts together programming montages for said golf channel. now, you are a sap, but you not as much as a sap because you really dig wilco and you want to put one of their songs into some of your work, so you do. now, some other sap watches said golf channel and witnesses this and thinks that wilco is in it's decadence b/c their music is heard in an unknown/"unworthy" context (the golf channel). when really that has happened is some fan is showing his appreciation for wilco. that's how i see it anyway.
  13. apparently, the dude that wrote & directed this morsel of entertainment also wrote the screenplay for the recent remake of dawn of the dead. i got to know this dude in serenity and really liked his style. i guess you could say i'm a fan too. what else is he in that you like?
  14. just caught this movie last night. i remember seeing the previews and wanting to go see it, but i think it was just out like a week. so when i saw it on on demand, i jumped, being a fan of well-made b-movies (oxymoron?) and zombie movies. let me just say, the only thing this b-movie is missing is bruce campbell. it's really pretty good.
  15. the difference there is that situation was an individual time trial, like yesterday's stage. the last stage this year, and in several years past, is a full-field stage (less easy to attack). the last stage has typically been a parade into the champs, take one lap, then the sprinters go to work (unless you alexandre vinokourov, then you attack and try to leap-frog people in front of you). just tradition, man. it's how the other riders honor the hard-earned leader in yellow. now, if there were only like 10 seconds difference, then i think tradition goes out the window. but given this
  16. check out the pinned topic at the top of this forum called "various wilco downloads..." or something like that. other than that, a-man or owl (just two names that immediately come to mind) or many others will surely help you out.
  17. gosh yes. great race between the top three. i thought we were going to have a top 3 mix up but evans was able to conserve his lead over a charging leipheimer. below is a pretty good perspective of the clean riders within the peloton:
  18. i really don't know how you can say that. i mean, it's by no means my favorite, but easily worst? seriously? worst?
  19. oh and i like nels on ashes better too.
  20. i just recently "found" this channel, and i've been pretty impressed by the movies they play. anyway, while i was watching fletch lives the other day, i saw the previews for this show every other commercial break, and it looked pretty good. glad to hear that it is; i'll have to check it out.
  21. then we'll put you in to straighten it all out. i'm with you aeglos...this weekend's time trial will be a great race between contador, evans and don't forget about leipheimer who is a pretty good time trialer. contador lost almost a minute, if not more, to evans in the last time trial, so it should be a real nail biter. of course i'll cheer for leipheimer (being american). i think contador may lack hard-earned experience, and should evans win, he would be the first aussie (as you know), but i'm a fan of any of those top three winning.
  22. while this is sad and definitely giving the sport and the race a bad name, i think that they are taking steps in the right direction, having no tolerance for those discovered. it's either kick 'em out or allow doping. kick 'em out...even the leader, if he's guilty.
