  1. hey, thanks for sharing this info! looking forward to it.
  2. funny that i'm reading this post after i just posted about them in the 90s nostalgia thread. they were most definitely a fav band of mine...my buddy and i traveled the southeast to see them (although i was not a fan of adam's meandering delivery in live sets). i bought "recovering" on cassette on a whim at a k-mart (go figure) and fell head over heels in love with them. devoured that album and went backwards to "august" which is as strong or stronger. nothing recalls my freshman year of college like those two bands do, i'll mention. i also have much love for mrs. potter's lullaby, but t
  3. the 90s. wow. very formative for me. i grew from age 10 to 20. my musical taste expanded from pop/hip hop (mc hammer, bbd, abc, vanilla ice, aerosmith...my first concert, '93) to more indie/grunge (of course): nirvana, pearl jam, stp...then to classic rock where i "found" the stones and led zeppelin, then ended the decade with red hot chilli peppers, third eye blind, counting crows (big time!) and a dabbling into country... what a meandering path!
  4. well said, and i agree totally. saying that, though...and in light of the previous post: it is a different sound. it is a very sparse, haunting beauty of an album. where ghosts is a full band sound, electric in places, admiral is mainly mark and his guitar, yet it makes you forget that fact more often than not. he is one of my favorites.
  5. i think that i read that they wrote that song particularly for win win, which, in my opinion, is a great movie btw.
  6. whoa....this is TOTALLY freaky! i just blew the dust off my copy of I Am Trying to Break Your Heart and watched it tonight. I came on here to post that SO much has changed over the course of these past ten years with this band, and it's been fun watching it and being a fan of this great band. so...thanks for giving me a thread to post to! (and so cool that you still have that email!)
  7. This is good news. I enjoy M. Ward. His shows are good as well. He has a weird tic about not getting photographed. I personally love The Transfiguration of Vincent.
  8. i've had three iphones beginning with the 3gs. each iteration is markedly faster than its predecessor. there is less of a gap b/w the 4 and the 4s. the camera is better on the 4s, but don't use siri as a tilt...i never use her. consider the iphone especially if you already use/are familiar with macs as they are a seamless companion. it's a pocket computer. i do actual work on mine all the time.
  9. that's funny you two pointed that out...as soon as i read that, i disconnected.
  10. all right, fine...i guess i'll dig out the bonus disc and spin it more.
  11. i thought it was a great show! we were about five people back from the front, dead center. yes, it was crowded but manageable. very good set list, cool print too. i scored #29/100, so that's kinda cool: getting print 29 at the track 29. the venue was fine...it was forever long out the back of the choo choo though! i had no idea it was so far back there!
  12. damn, man. next time just pick up a stone and throw it at poor Todd.
  13. i'm catching up on some albums now that i've some downtime. one i'm catching up on is tv on the radio, and i'm liking it. two others that haven't gotten any love on this thread yet that i think may be worthy are beirut's and m83's. both are pretty solid, i'm discovering, spin after spin. the m83 is particularly interesting.
  14. i used to be a member of one of those columbia house thingies were you'd get 7 cds for the price of one or something. based on my previous purchases, it recommended YHF to me (this was around 2002/2003). so, i ordered it. what the hell, right? it was practically free. when it arrived, i put it in my cd player...and it didn't leave for months. from that first spin of YHF till now, they've been my favorite band.
  15. listened to this yesterday. good stuff. you chicago-landers sure were/are lucky to have them do multiple-night residencies.
  16. sarah...any idea how long before the doors that folk are gonna line up for a spot on the rail? look into your crystal ball for me and tell me what you see.
  17. hey, that's a good way to express it. the sweetness is there, but, at zero calories...there has to be some trade-off, somehow, somewhere, and i guess it's the trade-off that keeps me away from splenda. and mumford.
  18. yes!! i was hoping you all had seen this. bummed that it won't be for a year...looks great though.
  19. i agree with the sentiment about the jayhawks album. i do like the track pouring rain at dawn. with dawes, while i really like the one that came out this year, finding that album, nothing is wrong, introduced me to their first, north hills, which is now among my all-time favorite albums. other than that, i have really enjoyed, top to bottom: bon iver, bon iver fleet foxes wilco ryan adams bits and pieces of: st. vincent here recently, i've found and really like (but need more time with): chris robinson kurt vile
  20. i'm liking this album. i can hear the lou reed comparison.
